You sir, are the first metalhead I've ever seen make the claim. They are anything but mediocre.
they've had a few good songs, fewer great ones, but overall I find their output to be pretty mediocre. Just a lot of long, drawn out songs that don't have much to them.
edit: one of my fav Bolt Thrower songs though!
also a classic
To each their own. Prog is not for everyone.
That solo. I feel a little ashamed for being so negative about the new Dahlia album when they unveiled their first single (which admittedly is still the worst song on the album imo), overall Everblack is killer.

Please don't talk like your personal taste in music directly coincides with fact. Opeth isn't bad because you don't like them.
As for the actual topic of the thread, the Gorguts song we got linked last page is definitely something I haven't heard before. I've never been into much of the tech death I've been hearing. Most of the stuff I've bumped into is like the sonic equivalent of a strobe light: dizzyingly fast and too hard to follow for my tastes. The dissonance and melodies in that song definitely won me over, though. Is the rest of their stuff like that?
Also thanks for introducing me to bolt thrower. Those guys have some sick guitar work.

i didnt, i said they are mediocre, feel free to disagree. i wouldn't call them bad per se, just nothing special.
have you ever heard of Miocene Wombat? London band, they were around at the same time as Sikth i think. They were foolishly written off as Tool wannabes but they were so much more than that.
Also they were absolutely fucking mindblowing live.
Every band written off as Tool wannabes is awesome!
Enjoying these Miocene guys too, albeit somewhat annoying as my left headphone speaker has broken, shall have to revisit them to do it justice as I can tell a lot of panned stuff is missing

In my opinion the album is much better then anything they have released in quite some time. It's not Hatebreeder or Follow the Reaper but it's a huge step in the right direction for them and a very, very solid album.
Sorry for bumping with the same band as before, but i didn't realise this Miocene tune was online. Its off my favorite metal/alternative album of recent times. Absolutely innovative, with nu-metal influence as well as trip hop and prog. Kickassery....
