I can picture Luna's and Lycan's animations off the top of my head! They've been around for a long time.

How many heroes do you need to learn to fill any role?
Assuming a hero can only go in one role. Is mid, support, and carry enough or do I need semicarry?
Do I need to learn a ranged carry?
|
You can learn Mirana if you only want one. Other, like WK for example, can both carry and support (but is not recommended mid) so you got two in one there. Many heroes do well both mid and as safelane carry.
But really, why would you only want to learn as few as possible? They have 2-4 abilities each, its not like its a huge time commitment to "learn" a lot of the heroes. You should probably focus on playing heroes you enjoy. If thats 1 or 50, up to you.

The goal is to jump into ranked with 2 feet and see how far I can get so I wanted to focus my practice, but I guess there's no need to rush things.

Do I need to learn a ranged carry? When you first start out, I wouldn't worry about roles. You can pretty much play anything you want.

Well if you want to see how far you can get quickly, picking one hero is just massing games on it is probably not a bad idea. For the long run you might not learn as much playing only one hero, but its definitely a legit way to improve your rating fast if thats your goal.
For that purpose you should probably either be prepared to insta-lock the hero and call your preferred lane every game. Or if you dont want to be that kind of guy (many are, some might be annoyed by them but they are definitely out there), pick a hero as versatile as possible.
Or you can of course, as your initial question suggests, learn some ~3 heroes so you can fill any role your team might need.

When running a pushing strategy is it typically better to go for 1 or 2 heroes with good pushing abilities and have the rest of your team as good team fighters or is it better to just go for mass pushing abilities and abilities that disengage fights?
|
it depends on what the enemy team is drafting/picking/banning.

Another flexible hero is void, he can offlane or safelane carry. Sandking is a fantastic support in either top or bot, crushes melee mid matchups, and can jungle decently
|
Sand king is really flexible in where he can lane and is one of the best nonhardcarry farmers in the game. Besides that an incredibly fun to play skill based hero with a ton of juke potential, seriously play this hero

Necrolyte is another hero that at least on lower levels can be played pretty much on any role and lane. With max aura you become annoying lanebully support who'll make sure every early skirmish starts with you having more HP, in midlane max death pulse and kill the opponent at 6 or as the safelane farmer stay forever on the lane with few levels in sadist. Go phase/treads ->mek ->bloodstone/pipe/hex/shivas whatever, pretty much any utility items work on him and just with your Q you'll be keeping your teammates alive in fights.

Good advice, you wont believe how many times I see a necrolyte lvl heartstopper and promptly lose the lane because he just gets killed...

How to stay focused on long hours gaming session? I can't play more than 2 games otherwise I will be feeding for not being able to focus any more. How does all the pro player play 8+ hours or even crazy 24 hours streaming session?

Go pour yourself a drink, do some stretches, maybe go out for a breath of fresh air. If you can;t stay focused on one thing for very long, break it up so you never have to stay focused for very long, just kinda long :>

Reverse Captains Mode (AtoD is DotA backwards). You can open a private lobby, select "Reverse Captains Mode" and play.
"Same rules as Captains Mode, except after the captains have chosen their heroes, players will be forced to pick from the other team's choices."
