In pro matches Sven is a mediocre support but in pub play, the set of viable strategies is much larger. Can do w/e really.

To elaborate, when i wombocombo sven's skills in a fight his manapool is drained, which means i cant fight for a long regenperiod or i head back to base. But i want to keep fighting early and never stop (take all towers in 1 lane for example and then rotate), manaboots increases the manapool and grants manaregen which solves that problem. HPregen and armour from the mek could help alot to keep everybody fighting. I would max Q+E before i would skill cleave (or 1 valuepoint). Its a bit like the fata's troll warlord mid from mouz, who builds a mek on top of a vlads on a corehero in alot of games. After the mek, i would go more standard items on sven just like fata does on troll. But because svens damageoutput from the ultimate is really good, i dont need alot more rightclick damage in the early/mid game to have enough impact, atleast thats the idea behind it.

I'm not an expert, but I don't think it'll ever see play in pro-games (unless he gets a buff) because Wraith King fills the niche (very tanky support, very good low cd stun + additional utility spell in Vampiric Aura/Warcry), but he gives much more utility with his ultimate, so he's much better as a support. In pubs though anything can work. FFS in one of my recent pubgames a Crystal Maiden went solo mid and managed to kill the enemy Shadow Fiend without any gankers....

As for Svens mana problems, consider Drums.

How can SF compete with such superior autoattack damage?

you cannot move while charging powershot moving will cause you to cancel your charge and you will throw a powershot that does less than max damage (unless you already charged 60%)

What hero/heroes do you use to go agaist him?? I play quite a lot of razor. In lane, there not many heroes that trump him. Viper and a few other very strong laners can ofc do well, but I dont think anything flat out rapes him. He was a harder time dominating against ranged heroes than can break link through blink-ish kind of skills though (QoP, Mirana, etc....). Melees will have a very hard time although some with a similar skillset will be less worse off. Come midgame he is really countered by burst. Some heroes can drop their whole combo in 5sec and pretty much be done with their teamfight contribution. Razor on the other hand takes quite a long time to contribute. His ult will only do great damage over time and unless he gets at the very least some 5-10sec, preferably longer, of link time it wont make a difference. So what you often want to do is drop your spells on him early. Either you'll kill him or get him low enough that hes forced to run away. If he survives the early burst being healthy and having stolen a good chunk of damage he'll wreck faces. Mobile heroes that can break link helps a lot too, as opposed to "in your face" heroes that will get all their damage drained. Eventually he'll fall off though. Once carries start getting 2-3 major items it becomes much easier to deal with him. Stealing 200+ damage on lvl 7-10 is quite ridiculous. Not so much at lvl 20. Hes a lane dominator than transitions well into kind of a midgame carry. Definitely a good hero but certainly has his weaknesses too.

If you aren't getting Treads/Phase before blink for the early laning effectiveness/Bottle efficiency, you're often-times just better off saving for a bigger item.
