The big problem with practicing against bots is you always, always, always get viper. Then you have to abuse the ai to harass him out or just ragequit because nethertoxin, and it looks nothing like a normal lane either way.

If you could guarantee something like a qop that did nothing but lasthit and deny well, it might actually be useful.

I've been playing dota/hon since 2005 and I still practice in local lobby alone with cheats enable so i can reset my level and spawn creeps. bots are worthless even for a new player, once you are comfortable with the hero's animation go play against real people, only way you get better.

Each hero has a designated opponent in that training scenario, apparently to keep players from gaming it by rerolling until they get a good matchup. I don't know who qop's nemesis is off the top of my head, but if you really hate the matchup you can switch heroes.

No

Yes but only if you queue with them (join their party) while online then switch to offline status

Help me chose a Hero kind of question (hope it's the right place to do it...).

I'm trying to improve my party ranked mmr with a friend. We're only playing together and are currently around 3000.
Basically we have a super nasty combo of Riki (him) + Crystal Maiden (me) and we're able to win 60 to 70% of our games when we play it. But while I like support, I don't want to play only that and also enjoy carry a lot. So we switch every other game.

The thing is, we have a terrible record when I'm on carry and he's on support. My problem is that the type of carries I like the most are farming carries (AM, Morphling, Luna) and I've come to realize that it's just not working well in pubs at our level. My last hitting is decent but not good enough for the early game and then, the mid game often degenerates rapidly and it becomes very hard to find proper farm. On the other hand, I don't want to play pure snowball type of heroes like Riki because I still like my farm. What I'm looking for is recommendation for 3 - 4 heroes that are somewhere in between and good support that goes well with them for my friend. For reference, Luna is currently the hero with which I have the better results but would like to change a bit.

tl; dr: recommend me decent pub games not-too-hard-carries-but-hard-enough for dual lane setup with a friend

Thanks!

Off the top of my head I recommend gyro who can rice like mad but also contribute hugely to early-mid teamfights.

What support to pair him with is debatable, depending on your playstyle and positioning. Ur unlikely to get kills in lane without some sort of disable/slow, but you are also fairly squishy so you often need some defensive backup too. Obviously you two understand that getting a ton of kills in lane is a great way to snowball a game, so if you feel comfortable with a killing lane something like Shadow Shaman or even lion (really disable-heavy) lets gyro abuse rocket barrage for early kills.

Midgame, your ult is on a really short cooldown and its a ton of damage so don't be afraid to use it whenever possible and fight a lot (although if you really hate fighting gyro rices really fast if ur efficient).

@Merany
I think you problem is the dual lane setup in pubs and how you play it. Assuming you are a duo against a duo, if you pick a greedy carry(not useful early on like AM) and a relatively greedy support(like melee supports or semi carries), you'll insta-lose the lane and the game.

CM is a support with super early presence and riki is a snowball mid game monster, it is not surprising for you to win most games.

The play style you ask is not what you want initially, you want to win games as a duo lane crusher but also like to farm most of the time. If you like to farm, either you need a very strong support to ward off the opponents(hard to do in 2v2) or ask your friend to go mid and create space for you(gank other lane or push like mad). Then you may have space to farm or got tower gold to itemize yourself.

You can pick almost any carry as long as you build for the mid-game. Such as Juggernaut w/ Phase+Drums or Yasha into Aghanims or Weaver with or without midas into Urn, Treads, and Drums. PA with Phase, PMS, Aquila casual Bracer into Bkb/Basher etc.

Other indie choices include Slardar, who is proficient in fighting throughout the game, or Chaos Knight+Tiny if you build racecar.

Gyro, tiny (mana boots dagger into carry tiny if no io), luna, naix, ember (not sure on this one), sven, drow, mirana, LD, slark, clinkz, troll, alche, naga, weaver, viper ,jugg, kunkka can all be parts of strong dual lanes and farm decently fast. Then the others either povide no real lane presence or are shitty at farming (mention to CK).

What is the most efficient item/control group hotkey setup? Currently I have 2 mouse buttons on the 1st and 4th spots and the other four are alt+q alt+w alt+e alt+r so I wont have to move from the q-w-e-r spells and i can easily press alt with my thumb. While that setup works with most heroes, when I play Tinker it becomes a challenge to blink, soulring, tp, dagon, sheep, ect multiple times with rearm using my setup. What do you guys use for items and hotkeys?

It greatly depends on your preference/game you played before. Try f keys for control groups and 1-6 for items if your hands can reach that easily

There's a wide variety but the most efficient is likely zxcv with space and/or mouse buttons for the last 2. Leave numbers for control groups, bind courier/hero/shop/voice to some combo of b/g/t/f1/f2/f3 depending on your preferences (or use a control group for hero).

Alt hotkeys for items is what i use, and old hon pros use it, but its almost certainly bad

Using zxc and alt + qwe is pretty legit. IceIceIce does it, so it must be good!

Zxcvbn works well enough for me. Sometimes n is a little hard to reach so I try not to put active items in the sixth slot.

I think ZXCVB Space is better in general than ZXCVBN. Space is very nice either as my panic button (e.g. wand, BKB) or an item I frequently activate independently of skills and other items (e.g. phase boots).

Of course, disregard if you have space bar mapped to something else important.

so how do you have enough mana with mid/late game with undying? The thing is even with mana boots, soulring you don't have enough mana to sustain a single fight that is longer than 30 seconds.
He also isn't the fastest farmer so getting a bloodstone seems like a longshot unless you get a good start. I think the hero has a lot of potential but his mana costs makes me not wanna play him.

I'm curious how you are running out of mana mid/late game undying. Levels + arcanes usually will carry this hero in lategame for mana costs. I guess get a shivas otherwise.

around lvl 16 you have like 1000 mana and your full combo costs ~600 mana - mek or pipe is another 150/100. Soulrip is on a 6sec cooldown 125 mana and decay on 4 sec for 130.

well his mana costs wouldn't be such a big problem if the hero could farm better for example decay doing more damage to creeps or something. He just feels so underwhelming to a lot of other heros.

well icefrog also thought undying has mana issues because:

I use alt qwe asd for items and 1-3 for hotkeys. Generally 1 is the hero, 2 is the courier. Or if I'm playing LD/Chen/Visage 2 becomes the Bear/Familiars/creeps and 3 is the chicka. All of it is personal preference, as long as it's convenient.

Also since when did people take such a loving to this thread? This thread is sacred, we don't need 4-5 posts for such a basic question. Yango halp.
