what is an average or acceptable KDA ratio?

Depends on what role you are playing I guess, and type of hero. Certain heroes can get higher KDA ratio's than others as well, like Spectre.

But just in general 3-4 is ok if you have a decent amount of games on that hero I guess. 2-3 is honestly fine as well. Really good mid players will usually have anywhere from 4-10 on their top heroes.

btw, this page http://dotabuff.com/heroes/impact shows the actual averages of each hero. You can sort by month, day, etc.

10 is pretty absurd if you're playing against similar caliber players

By "really good mid players" I meant pros and pubstars. It was just an extreme example to show what you shouldn't expect of your own KDA.

I really don't thik you can look at kda in dota the way people do in FPSs. And even there it's generally a pretty poor metric.

There are just so many factors that confound it in dota, not least of which is the MMR itself. No normal player can ever expect to have a long-term kda approaching 10, because the matchmaker will start putting them against better opponents before they get there.

One of these players claims to be high impact due to high KDA

But it turns out that he only plays mid heroes and loses on them

Huh, he doesn't lose, it's still above 50% winrate for both, unless he plays the <50% hero an unproportional amount.

Say i get 2 butterflys on mirana, does the evasion stack? What about on PA?

They have chance stacking, so that if one doesn't proc, the other hast he chance to. So it's 0.35 + 0.35 - 0.35*0.35 = 57,75% for two butterflies, or 0.5 + 0.35 - 0.35*0.5 = 67,5% for mortred with a butterfly. Source - http://www.playdota.com/mechanics/Item_Passive_Stacking . Not worth it considering that one MKB counters them both as far as I understand it.

What are some basic things to consider with a pushing lineup? What are some good timings to push, and what heroes work well withing these timings? I understand nobody is going to just list them all here, so is there a list of heroes with their critical push strength level/item timings anywhere on the web?

Thanks for all the previous answers BTW, and happy b-day Yango!

Dont think there are "timings" as in "at 12min we shall group up and take this tower". Different heroes are different, different enemies are different, first 10min are different.... etc. Just try to build a well rounded lineup with at least 2-3 pushing heroes and probably try to have one or two "midgame carries" that can do the carry work. For example if you run Pugna safelane a DK mid could be great as compliment and as midgame carry. Or if you run a Chen+Prophet and use summons as push a midgame carry like Mirana, Razor or Viper can be good. Also consider aura heroes like Venge and Luna. You dont need to go all out though. If you have Pugna+DK you dont need Leshrac and Shadow Shaman supports on top of that. They can of course work too, but dont forget to build a well rounded lineup.

Dont forget to have a good mek builder either (preferably one of your three cores so it arrives faster). And dont forget Urn. Mek is a no brainer but Urn can give very needed sustainability to your push. And squeeze in a pipe if you have a suitable carrier for it and its favourable vs the enemy heroes. Although pipe is probably the least important of the three.

What? Most big ults are push timings. Warlock's 6 can be a huge push timing if the enemy team can't fight into the warlock ult. Chen's got decent push timings at 5, 7, and mek. BKB timings can also mean awesome times to push. You don't necessarily need a Chen / furion / luna / venge / pugna lineup to push, all you really need is something that says "Fighting in to us is a bad idea, if you dont let us kill this tower we kill you.

In your own words: What?

Ty for the response. One thing I noticed however is that the link you provided is in reference to dota 1 which was on WC3. Maybe Dota 2 was made with the idea of keeping everything original to dota 1, but idk if that is true. I would assume that dota 2 is different in many ways, and how items stack would absolutely (imo) be one such way.

Dota 2 is intended to follow the same mechanics as Dota 1 for the most part

Wow really? So much so that the link you posted would be relevant to dota 2? What % of information covered on that dota 1 page would you estimate to hold true for dota 2? Throw out a %

If it's not listed in this thread on the dev forums, it should be the same as dota 1.

I'm actually not convinced the playdota page linked is up-to-date. Despite son1dow citing it for his answer, the page actually says:
Two Butterflies will grant you a total of 30% Evasion

...which is not the answer he gave. Nonetheless he is correct, afaik. Two butterflies stack diminishingly as of 6.80

Some other things that I noticed from the playdota page:
items like crits do not care about order of acquisition in dota2; if two proc at the same time, the largest one will override.
I also believe a lot of the orb priority stuff is incorrect, but that's getting very specific.

So if you want a percent.... 80%?

Thanks for clearing that up. I sort of said what I knew, then skimmed the source I linked to see if I was right, it listed evasion among the things that have chance stacking, so went with that as the source, which I shouldn't have done apparently.

Well, strictly you want both, so thanks for adding the other. There's also a ton of things that "should" be the same as dota 1 but aren't, which is what the bug thread is for.
