Then your " ~ " (Tilde key, below escape on KB) will open and close the console while you're in Dota 2 (There is also an option to enable this in settings but i'm not sure if it works without the launch settings). * -console will automatically open the console every time you launch dota, and you will have to press the tilde key to close it. +con_enable 1 will allow you to open or close the console at will and won't automatically open the console when you launch dota. For more on customising Dota you can check this thread, note that some of it outdated: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/dota-2/337793-customising-dota-2

I'm thinking Treads, Blink, Orchid, BKB? Situationally get Aghs if there's a carry you need to shut down in a teamfight? Of course, getting something like a Force Staff instead of a Blink situationally if there's a Riki or Skywrath on the other team would be pretty important. As for skillbuild, would maxing Q and then E with one point in W work, or is making your Q > W > E strictly better?

Treads are actually not absurd considering how much attack speed you get for free, and phase help you cs, but its kinda whatever. As a farming role you actually need to max both nukes asap since that is how you farm. Your right clicks wont really hurt till level 14 anyway so no need to max E before then. Orchid is a nice damage item although a silence really doesn't synergize with your skillset much, I think you still need it. Atos might work if you need a bit of burst-resistance since the slow is actually absurd combined with your skillset.

The key with Shadowblade-first Lina is getting comfortable using it to solo-kill because your burst is insanely high, and Laguna Blade has quite a low CD even on the first 2 ranks. The trick is being able to comfortably combo autoattack->LSA with no lead-off spell against an unaware target because her animations are ass. Against more slippery heroes, you may need Orchid to keep them from escaping, but you'd still need Blink or Lothar to get close enough, and delaying teamfight items like BKB or major damage items until 3rd item is a bit too slow, so make sure it's absolutely necessary if you're getting Orchid.

Are you sure that the farming benefits of Arcanes outweigh the attack speed plus extra HP of using Treads, with Tread switching taken into account? Especially if I'm going shadowblade and have a point in Fiery Soul, wouldn't the DPS in fights be worth it?

Lina base mana at level 11 with Int Treads + Wand: 910 Mana cost of full combo: 75 (Lothar) + 140 (Dragon Slave) + LSA (125) + 420 (Laguna) = 760 You basically spend most of your mana killing someone, making your overall sustainability very poor, even WITH Treads swapping. Treads swap is of lower effectiveness when your base Intel is very high (because the effective gain in mana is basically dictated by what % of your total 8 Int is), and drop Arcanes + drink Bottle is MORE effective. Again, the alternative is going Travels, because Travels makes it overall less damaging to your tempo to have to go home, but you have to be quite fed for Travels to be good because it gives no stats. You actually have more room to go Treads if you're making a primary Intel item first because it shaves 75 mana off your combo while giving you more mana. EDIT: Value point in Fiery Soul is situational. You'll always have it by 10, but whether you take it earlier depends on the types of heroes you're trying to kill (Fiery Soul gives you more chasing DPS, but there are plenty of heroes that your initial combo simply has to kill and you don't get a chance to chase).

OK, thanks for the info. What kind of damage item would you get on lina? I've already said Orchid, but if the game doesn't really call for an Orchid what do I get instead?

Usually you need BKB by 2nd major item because a carry Lina usually wants to break a lane on 3rd/4th item.

Edit: By second major item, do you mean after SB/Blink or after the next item?
