How exactly are you supposed to play Clockwerk?
Whenever I Batman/Link onto someone and then Cogs, Blademail, and Q them, they just use their ulti and win. Alchemist, Faceless Void, CM, pretty much anyone. Are those just bad matchups for me? Basically anyone with a stun ability.
Is there something I'm missing here?
Also it seems like anything in between me and the target stops the hook shot. I need to have a clear path to the target right?
EDIT - I'm pretty noob and have never played Clock before so any help is appreciated.

you dont have trap them inside.
hook -> move a few units away -> cog burn them.
OR
if they have a melee hero i.e. alch
hook -> cog -> force staff yourself away
OR
hook support -> support is kill
think of yourself as a utility chaos maker rather than disabler
additional tip: if you cast hook, look at your mouse. if its a crosshair with a person in it, then that hook wont land on that point. if its a crosshair with reddish/purple-ish border, then its in range

How does CM ult you in cogs with battery? :D
There are bunch of bad matchups for Clock in mid like Puck, Storm and TA, but you can just max rocket, clearwaves and sustain with bottlecrowing if life is absolutely bad and there is no luck with runes.
On offlane, you can max Q if you see an opening on supports, or max rocket as RotK does and still clear waves under tower, scout and stuff. Also you can block camp stacking with rocket/steal farm which is useful and sweet. +Cogs are extremely useful in creep blocking/hero pushing away/saving your life.
And yep, you need clear path. Also you can survive with hook.

If you're initiating into a farmed Alch/Void etc..., you better be doing it with your team following up. You're not going to solo kill those heroes.

Max battle assault over rocket flair. I even max cogs over rocket flair. The reason I see most clockwerks have no game impact is because they neglect battle assault and don't play aggressive enough. As offlane you need to start going after people when your level advantage kicks in. This might be obvious, but CW needs a solo lane. If he doesn't get a solo lane he's pretty much screwed.

Hello Team Liquid
I need help to understand how to win a game I just lost. Introduction: Enemy team was 5 stack. (I found out when game ended) Enemy's least wins player had same amount of wins as the most wins player on our team (me). I played Brewmaster (Im usually support, but everyone picked support so had no choice to pick the brew that was drafted)
Prophet, Pudge, Bane, Tinker, Juggernaut vs Brewmaster, Doom, ShadowDemon, warlock, BountyHunter.
match id: 622223167
How do you play vs 2 guys that split push constantly like that? My shadow demon support kept dying alone even when I asked him to stick with one of the tanky heroes.
Given the circumstances; how should I handle this kind of situation? The team was very hard to lead, no one listened. And we sort of stood still not knowing what to do.
Would appreciate tips and strategy for this guys, thanks in advance!

It's hard to lose with Tinker and Furion in same team :D You could probably run SD-BH-lothar Doom gank squad, getting one and getting towers from it while Panda can successfully protect other lane with Warlock. But i assume that you didn't do it and i have to say that Furion and Tinker itemized well for this game.

Ah, wasn't obvious to me, thanks mate. I'm realizing now the couple of games I played solo mid I did much better than either of the games I laned with someone. After I got strong enough I was able to just hook out from behind the trees and smash people's faces in or at least trap them so Sniper could finish them off.
I've been maxing Q and W first with 1 point in rocket flair just to give vision when needed. Item wise i'm going phase boots, magic wand, vanguard and then seeing from there. I usually play with a Sniper and a Zeus so if they get caught in the cogs it's usually death. That sound reasonable?

There are occassions when it's better to get pt over phases and go force staff/scepter, not vanguard/blade mail. Vanguard is very situational on Clockwerk, you don't need block damage, force staff is way better in that case. But it's all about games, sometimes you need bkb, sometimes it's ok to go mek/pipe, sometimes it's ok even to go dps build like battle fury/maelstrom/cuirass, sometimes you go shiva or ghost.
Even tho, vanguard-scepter-cuirass build makes Clockwerk be just a brick wall flying around.

What is the force staff for? Not sure I fully understand how this hero is meant to be played yet but my basic understanding is:
Get on top of someone, press q and w, then bash them over the head until they die
Wouldn't a blink dagger be better in this situation since you can be really precise with where you want to go? (but I know nobody ever builds blink on him)
I guess my problem with Clockwerk is that unless you get this whole combo (hook shot, cogs) he's pretty useless. And until you get the scepter his cooldown on the hookshot is super long so it's not particularly feasible to do this more than once every few minutes. What should I be doing the rest of the time??

Clock loves the mana and regen from force, and loves being able to force himself out of cogs or force an enemy onto cogs for the stun/dmg. In-fight mobility aka force is more important to clock than pre-fight mobility where blink shines.
When ur ult is down on clock its generally fine to farm for a bit, with cogs and rocket you have reasonable jungle/wave clear. and its not actually that hard to gank with clock without ult just walk behind them and cogs off any escape path lol. Solo-kill is hard but with teammates you can contribute to a gank just fine.

That sounds reasonable. Maybe I'll look into some Clock vods or something. He's kind of fun to play but I jus haven't quite figured him out yet.

meant to edit, quoted instead.
Was trying to correct myself since I meant to farm with battery assault not cogs (fairly self-evident i hope)

Yeah hook in, cogs and force staff yourself out if you can't stand and take the hate that's about to come your way. Leaves the cogs unbroken so the enemy's still trapped.
|
Force staffing out of Cogs is a nice way to keep yourself alive versus melee carries you don't want to be trapped with (e.g. Lifestealer, Alchemist)
You trap them in cogs, force staff out, then go around walking with battery assault to disrupt their backline supports.
Be creative with Cogs, sometimes fights break out near choke points and you can cut their team in half with good Cogs placements.

If you are Enchantress, and you're faced against a necrobook, which necro minion is better to steal in a vacuum? ie. assume the enemy has no invis heroes you might want the truesight for.
|
I would say the Warrior because of the Damage dealt upon death / True Sight (find wards), but it's situational... If you need a quick mana burn (225 @Necro3) then the Archer. Keep in mind Archer also offers a MS/AS aura so kinda depends on your team line up *and what you're planning to do.
|
I'd always take the melee one
|
Well keep in mind the archer gives 9% AS 9% MS aura, but yeah usually the melee.
|
I mean if u take the melee I think u can make short work of the ranged with either the melee or just with ur hero. Whereas the reverse option is a lot less appealing.
