With a heart you need an armor item too, its not like shivas is only for the active + aura. Unless E-blade but iunno. FULL ON WOMBO COMBO TIME.

E-Blade/Dagon5/Refresher/Aghs ZAPZAPZAP

Guides are mostly useful for ideas, in my opinion. Following them to the letter won't get you very far, because the chances that they were written for your skill bracket, nevermind your current game, are actually pretty low.

The idea of Necrophos is that he wants to survive every teamfight, so step one is to guarantee that. There's much more than one item build that will get you there, but not one item build that will get you there efficiently every game. After you've reached the "Okay it's not efficient or reliable for them to focus me down in fights" phase, you can start branching off into utility items like sheep or force staff or euls (all of which also help you guarantee your survival) but really, the game should be over before you get to 6 slots, as you're not really a lategame hero. Most lategame 6-slotted carries make fights really, really short. That's no good for Necrophos.

Force staff is a mobility item, saves ur ass all the time. It makes it non-profitable to focus necro because he can force out and laugh at u.

Sheep saves ur ass too cuz u just sheep their damage.

Euls sorta does that cuz u can fly urself if they go on u but its really not good enough for that.

Realistically you want Mek -> force -> LUXURIES EVERYWHERE (sheep, shivas, heart). BKB, as on every hero in dota, fits in whenever you feel like you need it to fight efficiently. Necro can postpone bkb longer than a lot of heroes I think by positioning more conservatively.

Force Staff is not a priority on Necrolyte. Your engagement range is low to begin with, it doesn't exactly benefit you to be trying and forcing yourself out of sticky situations rather than itemizing to stay in the fray. While it gives you mobility, it also gives you zero defensive stats, which is a big minus for Necrolyte.

Hood and Shiva's are your two bread and butter items, with an HP source mixed in to survive initial burst damage (can be casual Point Booster, Mek, Ultimate Orb, Drums, etc). The effectiveness of heals scales multiplicatively with resistances, so armor and magic resistance are big to have early on. The early you have them, the more likely you are to reach critical mass where Death Pulse and Sadist make you literally unkillable.

Honestly I don't know how Force on that hero became a thing.

BKB/Sheep/Shivas/Eblade/Aghs/Travs

Aghs optional depending on how many cores the enemy have. If you prefer, get refresher. Mek is purchased earler but sold when you need the slot. Force staff as well although you probably still need forces on teammates since you are so low mobility.

E: oh yeah. You need a heart. Probably over the Eblade most games. Depends on the game.

So BKB/Sheep/Shivas/Heart/Travs + one of (Refresher, Aghs, Eblade) depending on what is most important for you.

Interesting, because almost none of the highly rated published builds that ive seen look like that. I dont think refresher is really useful, but it will take some testing. Etheral doesnt seem like the right item, since its primarily an agility stat item, and your not looking to gank or fight 1v1 with anyone but more provide tankyness and utility for long term fights on your team. Seems more suited to survivability with damage output heros. Where as necro is already fairly survivable. Sheep is reasonable and is in several of the builds, im always just hesitant to build regen based items when you already have a few and a passive.

Sheep is sheep it needs no justification. Its absolutely NOT a "regen based" item its a castable hex. It just so happens to also be an amazing farm (aka regen) item since necrolyte can chew through mana at an incredible rate even with max sadist.

BKB is because all you need is to survive and BKB is one of the best survivability items in the game. There are arguments for pipe since necrolyte doesn't REALLY need to avoid being stunned etc (since all you need is to be able to cast your spells intermittently) but any kind of silence wrecks you and due to necro's awful mobility, avoiding slows/stuns is key to keeping your heal bomb and aura hitting as many targets as possible.

Heart is simply the best tank item in the game, non negotiable.

Shivas is amazing, its a bunch of survivability as well as a nice nuke and it provides another incredibly obnoxious aura for your enemies to deal with, cementing your teamfight presence. Plus mana pool never hurts on a hero whose ult is like 500 mana.

Travs are travs. Best mobility, part of essentially ever "6-slot" build.

The spare slot goes to one of:
Refresher: when you need to ult 2 different people really badly. Bonus is that it refreshes sheep and shivas both of which are awesome.
E-Blade: when you need a ghost sceptre for survivability, when you need to be able to ghost sceptre an enemy carry or an ally, and especially when you need to be able to 1v1 enemy heroes (Sheep -> hit hit hit -> eblade + shivas + death pulse -> ult = GG practically anybody). Ignore the Agi part, it is simply a way to win any 1v1 fight ever, plus utility for physical immunity for allies/self and disarm enemies.
Aghs: well duh. When there is 1 enemy core that you care about, and nothing else. Period.

Everything else is shit tier. In game guides are coincidentally universally shit tier. And besides, in game guides really don't have anything to do with 6-slot theory crafting.

Please note that i'm 6-slot theory crafting here, not necessarily advocating a smooth build-up build that would work in a game. Items like Bloodstone are bad but have situational uses where you need 1 item that both tanks up and fixes your mana regen. Its a timing push kind of item since you don't need that much regen in general but right when bloodstone hits you are tanky and can fight almost forever so you can push with it. AC is bad forget anybody who ever suggests it you don't do any phys dmg. Mek is core but you sell it when you hit 6slot. Drums are fun and can be good but you sell them when you hit 6slot. Force is core for sure but again I think you often sell it once your teammates can provide. Blink is the same as force but more situational. Euls is situationally OK as a mana regen item with some niche use but its simply not good enough. Atos is quite reasonable except you have to be using the active on enemy heroes, which implies teamfights, which is not where atos is good. Not a 6slot item regardless.

cool. Thanks for the info. Im going to try that stuff out. You bring up alot of stuff that I wasnt really thinking about!

While we're discussing theoretical 6 slots, what does a 6-slot #1 Lycan look like?

He seems to function quite differently to other strength #1s, so I feel a bit unsure beyond BKB/abyssal/(AC?). He also tends to be packing a lot of latent midgame items like Vlad's/necro/deso that I don't know when/whether to ditch.

I'm thinking the plan with Lycan is to win before the 6-slot v 6-slot stage, but still.

The most annoying lycans to deal with is split pushing ones and the difference in a 6 slotted item build depends of course on what you are facing and what stage in the game you are. The difference in item choices depends on what you need to do in that specific game that I find these kind of discussions pointless.

The question on when, why and with what to exchange your early-mid items with I can get on board with. I would say you can swap your vlads for satanic when you can afford it and still have money for buyback or you feel you wont lose if you die and cant buyback. Thats the most obvious one though not sure with the rest.

Lycan can be a no-boots hero for 6slot purposes. Not recommended for most of the game since boots are farming items on farming heroes (mobility = higher cs, period), but for 6 slot its fine.

However BoTs are very very good for a "splitpushing" or "backdooring" plan which lycan excels at. Depends on what you are attempting to achieve.

Small question about treant protector. Anyone ever tried this itembuild : Shield, Wand, Naked boot, Headdress, TQ boots, Blademail, next item is hood, meka or hot (less important). I have negative experiences with arcanes+meka early and drums feel like a waste of timings (everything comes to late for him after drums). This itembuild worked better for me when i mostly used the healingskill on tier1 towers as his biggest manaproblems are in the early game. Wierd enough the tq-boots+headdress gave me more mana then the arcanes in the early game because i didnt use the healingspell on myself or laningpartner too often (almost never). Wierd, but thats how it felt. So, it makes me wonder if others have had the same or similar experiences?

Aghs Refresher Necro instagibs any single target from 72.3% down at level 3 ult. How you get from 100% to 72.3% is the interesting bit (since eth blade dagon is pretty... scrubby).

If you're going to be difficult you might as well mention PL, AM, Meepo, Visage, Viper, Rubick, and Pudge.

Yango is going to upload his brain to Liquidpedia and fully update and complete all of the DotA 2 articles while also adding in sections for Pokemon, League, and probably a few other games.

You want to be using living armor a lot in the laning stages; it's one of the bigger parts of what treant brings to a team. Your teammates should be able to play more aggressive because you have living armor there to back them up. Unless healingskill means leech seed.

I don't know about the build, but having a blademail without any reason for people to be attacking you seems odd and with just regen items you're still quite squishy at that point so it can't even reflect all that much.

Lycan is poorly fitted for 6 slot carry fights because he only packs damage, while all the other carries have something else on top. Like a stun, or at least ministun or something similar.
Practically the most powerful build includes vlads, necrobook 3, the aegis and a high ground push around 25-35 minutes.

What you're looking for is most likely though something like Abyssal Blade, Assault Cuirass, Satanic, MKB, BKB and Travels.

IMO: BoT, Helm of the Dominator, Necro 3, Vlads, Assault Currais, BKB or Desolator.

I don't know how you defend against this backdoor potential (you dominate a creep to disable backdoor regen). Especially if there is a visage or NP on the team. I've done 1v5 races before and lycan wins by a long shot.
Once is an accident. Twice is coincidence. Three times is an enemy action. Bus Driver can never target themselves I'm sorry
