This can mean pushing a tower as 4 while your 1 farms, or roaming into their jungle to pressure their 1, leaving your cores to farm safely. Force the enemy team to deal with you, so they don't have time to deal with your carry before they farm their important item(s).

I've seen the new broodmother creating space just by fleeing a 5man gank attempt for 2 minutes.

EDIT: The easy way to distinguish it from a normal TP is that the normal TP shows the light-blue glyph on the ground that's also used as the Shiva's Guard aura indicator. KotL's Recall does't create that glyph on the ground.

I've played him a few times since then, and promptly been destroyed. A gem, dust, or well placed ward completely shuts Riki down. I'm sure this makes him a bad hero to play consistently, but I really enjoy lurking around and ganking people who are jungling and such. Is there any thing I can do to improve my survival once gems/dusts/etc come into play? Well, using Manta as well as diffusal blading yourself removes dust.

A gem usually stays on the same guy in pubs, so you can identify that player and avoid him. If he is on one side of the map, you can usually gank happily wherever he isn't. (Also tell your team immediately, it might lead to them killing him just to get rid of the gem. This is more of a gamble though, don't count on it) Dust is reactionary and has 60 second cooldown while it makes you visible for 12 seconds. You can often still run around freely but you have to be careful when you attack someone. One or several enemies might jump on you if you engage. Sentry wards are the most fickle thing. There is no indication that one is placed other than that lanecreeps attack you(in a lane). However pubs are often stingy with wards, as they are stationary. Also you or your team can detetct them with your own truesight, obviously, which makes them vulnerable if just dropped down somewhere(not as obvious). Aside from that you can often get by just avoiding areas where you were detected for 4 minutes. All that aside, when they run around as 5 people and plop wards along the way/have a gem, you are most certainly boned as riki.

What a great idea.... and since I have never gotten the hang of double quoting, I'll just say that carrying around my own gem seems like a viable option I guess. I feel like that slot would be better used for something else. But, survival > all I guess. And I think positioning being a big deal, and general map awareness, makes total sense. I guess I just need to play smarter. Unless they're roaming in a pack of 5... then I just smoke and hope I don't get owned too fast =\ Thanks!
