I tried to scrye from the tea leaves as much as I could, so here's my logic:
They said 16 teams are coming this year. All of the TI action will be in Key Arena. Now they could have a wildcard stage like last year, but what seems more likely to me is that as soon as the Key Arena stage starts, they are going straight into groups. This has the effect of weeding out the weak teams who made it through qualifiers/invites regardless of region, prior to bracket play. So in that way it serves a similar purpose to the global wildcard, but it's not the same thing.
And as I said in the second half of my sentence a couple of posts up, BIGGER. Let's say the top two teams from each regional qualifier LAN go directly to the main event. Then you have another LAN with placers 3-5 -- mini TI. Top X advance to the big show (depending on how many you want at TI).
There are expense and logistics issues with this but it would be a lot more satisfying for the fans, I think, and the competition would probably be better. And it would take the pressure off Valve to have the final LAN be the most massive fucking thing despite real logistical challenges of having a LAN of this magnitude with these kinds of time requirements and this much demand for seating take place in their limited range of Seattle venues.

well ur wrong on all accounts rofl its going to be a lot like last year but with a more robust post-groups stage to ensure that every team plays on stage. they still don't have time to play the entire tournament on-stage.

I don't know, I think something like VG vs. Alliance could easily be worth watching, so the gap isn't that big.

VG Secret C9 EG
Ignoring regions, these are the guys you absolutely have to have, with no argument I can imagine. So you have four S-Tier teams. Is one of these teams going to win TI? Maybe, but you're a fool if you think that's definite.
IG LGD VP Empire Rave
These are teams I think there's little argument should be in there with the others. How many "bad teams" do you see so far? We're up to nine, and we have one Americas team and one SEA team so far.
Na'Vi NiP Alliance Tinker Newbee HR Burden
All of these teams could realistically meet or exceed the quality of play of the last batch of teams by the time TI rolls around. That is, they could be expected to compete with the S Tier teams though they'd be underdogs. Now we're up to sixteen. Can you think of any teams you'd rather see on this section of the list? Of course you can. Because there are a lot of capable teams right now. (Also I don't pay s lot of attention to China when they aren't at international LANs). None of them are bad, although surely when the time comes at least a couple will fail to rise to the challenge.
What's my point? Simply that there isn't a shortage of good teams right now, and even if you think there is, shutting the door on teams on the cusp isn't going to fix it.

I'm not sure C9 is a 'tier 1' team, I would rate them at the same tier as NIP/Empire/LGD. Only VG, Secret and EG are dominant atm.

Didn't Burden United at the top of a group stage of a tourney after beating Empire and other top tier EU teams in D2CL?

Regarding C9, let's say you cut off invites with the first group. Would you still leave them out? Would you bring in a team from the second group instead? I'm no C9 fan and I don't think they're as good overall as Secret/EG/IG but they belong more in that group than the second IMO. But who knows what shape they'll be in months from now.

I've been following Neqroman since sQreens squad actually.
Have you watched burden play at all recently? They have shown they can beat irrelevant teams in small cups and quals sure, but all those other teams have shown they can compete globally, or are dominant in their region.

There's nothing but recent games from them. Among those are convincing wins over and close series with good teams.
As for your final assertion? I can't even.

Can we transition this out of the Na'Vi discussion? I'm sorry to have brought up The International format

On April 21 2015 16:09 Bisu-Fan wrote:Can we transition this out of the Na'Vi discussion? I'm sorry to have brought up The International format Yep, I don't even begin to understand why is this relevant at all.
The only thing that matters is that NaVi does not deserve an invite, nor does Alliance and it should be decided between VP, HR and Empire (with Empire a bit ahead of everyone).
My grain of sand is: Independently of which team do WE want competing in TI, if this were the Worldwide Dota Championship (I feel it is), at least on team of every region should have the possibility of classifying, meaning: - EVERY TEAM (including EG, TS and VG) should play qualifiers. - Each region should have spots allocated given the "quality" of the team competing in that region. - For regions with a lower level compared to others (South america) their contender could play a deciding match with a team of another region to get into TI.
Just like FIFA Worldcup, some regions have 4.5 spots where this .5 spot must play a match against another .5 spot and then they get into the cup. That being said, we could have a team no one wants to see but at the same time they help develop this sport in not so strong regions.
Of course, Valve doesn't want that, because it is all about fan base.
