CDA Banned
Newbee and players for life

The CDA Alliance, the Chinese Dota 2 Professional Association pairing up with the Dota 2 Professional League, has conducted an investigation on allegations of Newbee esports club participating in unfair competition and profitting from it, and have determined that Newbee was found guilty and is banned for life from their competitions. This originates from the ban given out by ImbaTV due to match fixing and their removal from the China Dota2 Professional League Season 2.

The former TI winning organization has been removed from the CDA Alliance, and the following players have received lifetime bans: Moogy, Wizard, Waixi, Aq, and Faith. This ban does not extend to Fonte, who is currently registered as their position 1, as he was not participating in the tournament where this occured. They have submitted this information to both Perfect World and Valve.

Newbee receive life time ban from CDA

Faith is most known for his win at TI2 with Invictus Gaming and recently with Newbee's 2nd place finish at TI7 along with Moogy. There has been much speculation about various teams the Chinese tournaments fixing matches, and Newbee's success as an organization has dropped significantly since early 2018. Sources have said that the match fixing has been going on since the departure of Sccc, and Fenrir, with the organization losing swiftly in some Tier 3 events in the playoff stages. With everything returning back to the online tournament environment, the spread of match fixing continues to be a rampant issue within the Tier 2/3 Dota 2 scene.

Faith among the players to receive the ban.

*Update* Newbee's official statement, "We express our understanding and respect for the CDA alliance’s decision. However, since the establishment of the Newbee eSports club, it has never participated in any fake matches and gambling activities with the club or branch as the main body. We will file an appeal for the penalty of the CDA alliance regarding the Newbee eSports club.”

CDA's official statement.

Seems fair, I imagine valve and others will also follow suit.

Wow

Not sure how this ban work. Is it all Valve events or just CDA or Chinese events in general?

Currently it extends to all ImbaTV, MARS, and CDA/DPL leagues. They sent the information to Valve and Perfect World. Waiting on their response.

Hope life time bans will become a thing in the rest of the world. Cheating is against sportsmanship and the spirit of competition.

Pretty troll worthy game. The lifetime bans will affect a few players but it is likely that the main instigators will get off scot free again

Man no one seems to learn from the past huh? Maybe just issue lifetime bans already by Valve. They need to go big dick on this one to deter future match fixing.

just saw the linked video above. you can even tell the caster is holding back suspicion of intentional throwing. Morph was just fucking around with full AGI and Void throwing out chronos pretending to do something.

Waow, although the only name I recognize is Faith this is, I think, a new all-time low for a TI winner. Good to hear at least Fenrir Sccc and Fonte were spared the humiliation... although they probably will take a hit to their reputations just by association with the Newbee brand.

How the mighty have fallen. A shame honestly, always liked Faith. Moogy definitely had his highs too.

disgusting... but a lifetime ban is really hard, i need more infos.

I mean there is no excuse fore moogy and faith. they are old enough, have enough experience and earned enough money to be set for life. Here the ban is 100% valid and i hope Volvo and the rest joins.

But the other three, I am interested why they cheated or what forced them to do so.

Edit: Wait, where is the punishment for Avengerls?

I think what they are saying is that they agree the team did match fixing. They just want the Newbee brand to be unbanned, not the players.

That makes sense, honestly try to imagine the sheer shitshow it would be, if an organizaiton actively endorsed match fixing

I bet they do. Sounds like they want to appeal to mercy by pointing out first offence, like emperor implied.

Not sure Newbee as such was involved but the team management should have been aware that something was wrong after such performance.

Also remember reading this on reddit www.reddit.com it's uncomfirmed so take it with a grant og salt.

Well, given that this is a ban for match fixing in a Valve game, they presumably have a bright future ahead of them of streaming, coaching for T1 teams, returning to play in tournaments when other organizations arbitrarily declare that they won't enforce the punishment anymore, and eventually joining top-tier organizations as competitors in other games altogether to accolades and fanfare, having learned no lesson at all.
The world is better when every background has a chance.

Of course they are, all of Chinese tournaments are fixed. This is a tip of an iceberg.

I’ve been reading stuff how Chinese scene is chock full of match fixing. No reliable sources ofc, just twitter comments and what not. Though it’s not hard to believe.
