Then you have the stuff where the fan service just breaks it. Which might be half the poorly rated Shounen and Seinen? At least series like Queen`s Blade are honest about what they are targetting before you hit hentai which is also honest about what it is at least. | ||

All the characters in that series are coded as children, from their uniforms to the fact that all the adults call them children. Yet that are leered at and sexualized by both the camera and animation. I have no problem with the boys and girls being attracted to each other, it is making Zero Two appear naked in the first episode with her magic hair serving as pasties. Objectifying characters that are presented to me as high school freshmen and juniors is gross and why I have a hard time recommending the show to anyone. It is a disservice to a show in general. | ||

Isn't the core demographic under 18 for most anime? I feel like you are denigrating this kids show based on your adult americanized ideals. Japanese societal norms are probably quite different and origin should always be considered when you appraise a medium. Besides, just because it's uncomfortable for you doesn't mean that the creators vision was wrong. Also, it's unreasonable to compare a stand alone anime from a manga adapted to an anime. The original anime has to make a sound business case and the guys who green light this stuff are aware of what sells -- its not so different from America (age of consent just happens to be 13 in japan). I agree with you that the entire premise could be executed more effectively by adopting a more mature approach but that alienates the original demographic. Personally I think you would best stick to Seinen anime but maybe consider that you might have some unrealistic expectations when it comes to japanese fanservice (they are a sexually suppressed nation). | ||
