I got called out for being a CM spammer yesterday. That's not a thing so idk what he was on about, but i'm gathering that going forward I'm gonna get that more often.
"Oh my god you filthy CM spammer, so abusive!" Lol.
If i had no soul I'd be a riki spammer. As-is I try ban it and if it isn't banned I'll pick it up.

After playing ffxv for like 5 hours, I have a bad hot take : FFXIII had better combat

Which of the two would you recommend?

It was "almost" a really good game. Then they just kept making mistakes. If you want an RPG from 2017 to play it should be persona 5 though (and I'm pretty sure it can be emulated on any pc that can run FFXV anyways).
FFXIII should be played on easy mode if you actually want to play it (easy vs hard is sorta a misnomer here - all that happens on easy is that the fights don't take 2-3 minutes+ for regular mobs, and like 15-30 for bosses...) It's very over-dramatic, though. A lot of people recommend FFXIII-2 as being the best of the FFXIII games, but it's a bit different (it's a time hopping adventure where you only have two party members, as far as I could tell after like 20 hours, at which point I'd lost interest. My PC being unable to play it at 30 fps was part of why I dropped it). Only one of the ffxiii games I finished was the third, but it's pretty much objectively the worst. It was strangely addicting, though.

Seems very one button-y and uninspiring, but it might just be a boring style thing.

I believe they got a port of P5 on a PS3 emulator, but it also got taken down. If I had the effort to dig that deeply online I'm sure I'd be able to find it. I think it's more realistic for me to play through P3 and P4 before borrowing a PS3 to play P5.

You also get to re-experience the joys of flying in WoW, in the form of driving a car.

It never got taken down? https://rpcs3.net/ There was a specific fork that ran p5 better, but I think all around it runs it fine now.

It may have been the advertisement saying the P5 emulation worked, to be honest? I'm not that sure. I'm aware the emulator itself wasn't touched by Atlus due to IP ownership/etc.
|
They had to remove all P5 related info from their stuff, but that's pretty much it.
They can't do much about the emulator itself.

I actually went through all the FF games / JRPGs I like and noticed a theme in the partybuilding and narrative that lends itself towards being my favorite - that being what Chrono Trigger, FF6, and Xenoblade Chronicles (1) do. FFXIII's narrative didn't sit with me well because it forces you to hop between different pairings of its characters, and I found halfish (Hope, Snow, Vanille, Lightning) of the characters annoying... so I had to play through their parts of the story begrudgingly. FFXV, on the other hand, doesn't hop around characters that much - you stick with the same core of four dudes... buuuuut if you don't identify with those dudes or don't like them, you still have to put up with them singing annoying songs about chocobos and/or discovering recipes.
FF6, think Cyan is annoying? Don't use him and don't do his storylines! Setzer strike you as creepy? Let him just fly your airship and ignore him otherwise! Chrono trigger lets you be robo-racist or not use prehistoric bimbos, Xenoblade chronicles lets you pretend you rocket-kicked Riki the fuck off Bionis the second you found him and not use Reyn because you're afraid his stupidity is contagious.
Just something that struck me as interesting in my review of JRPGs. I think FFXV's core narrative structure of "The story of these four dudes and their adventures together" is stronger than FFXIII's "The story of these 8 people and how their individual stories entertwine and shit", but the "Choose your own group of people and explore their characters (or not) at your leisure" structure has shown up in some of my favorite RPGs and feels reaaaal strong.
That said I stopped playing FFXV when I got to some big city and it tried to force me to eat all this exposition and story nonsense.
-e- oh yeah FFX also follows the "Choose your own group" motif for the most part.

So do you love playing through stuff like Baldur's Gate, or DA:O?

I AGREE 100%. I am in the rare minority that actually liked ffxiii despite its many flaws. I couldn't finish xv. Its really bad. You don't care about the story at all, and the gameplay is nowhere near good enough to carry it. I have 100% completions on both xiii and xiii-2 tho so I am biased but ya... the difference between that and not being able to even finish the game is.... large. (DONT EVER TRY TO 100% XIII BTW)
And no girls in xv so im pretty sure its not for ith, or me either (<3 lightning in xiii)

I remember some western feminists being up in arms about ffxv not having any female party members. But the game itself seems to be pure bait for yaoi fangirls.

i did not need to learn what yaoi was today

Dragon age dickpunching you with DLC you don't have made me resolve to not play it ever because -fuck- developers that think they can get away with that.
Baldur's Gate ironically has a bit of the same but nowhere near as offensive. I like Baldur's gate (and other western RPGs or w/e you wanna call em) but prefer when they bother to actually tell me a story. Both Tyranny and Pillars of Eternity felt like they did a good job at storytelling.
Also FFXIII's music is god-tier. Also a theme I noticed (FF6 and Chrono Trigger -also- have god-tier music).
Also Also I think I was very near FF13 100%. I remember there being one thing I hadn't killed, what google reminds me is an Undying named Attacus. I'd killed adamantoise and done every other mission, but I'd tried fighting that dude a couple times and never finished him.
