My comment on the obesity thing - it's cultural. Look on a map of the US for obesity and you'll notice that the South has atrocious obesity rates, I believe >50% in some areas. The South is also the poorest region in the US. There's a correlation between poverty and obesity. The cheapest foods in the US are the most fattening. A healthy diet is fucking expensive as shit, unless you are willing to eat food that tastes worse than cardboard 100% of the time. The whole HFCS thing, amounts of sugars being put into food to cover up the shitty taste, etc. If something is affecting 5/100 people then it probably isn't a social thing. If it's affect 50/100 people then it probably is a social thing. I've lived in Appalachia, my mother who is from there grew up without electricity and with well water, etc. I currently live in KY which is a southern state (technically it's a border state but eh, the accents are southern unless you're from parts of eastern KY where they speak 1600s england english) but I live in a suburban part. After writing all this out all I can really say is that I'm going to go eat something. I feel weird. This was way too long of a post for GD

Obesity being cultural is a sorry excuse really Don't forget energy in energy out, you're 'forced' to eat fat things (lol) ? Then fucking run, don't watch the fucking television or play a game of dota and run 30min every day fat people gonna fat i guess. To clarify, if anybody really wanted to lose weight, they could. But it's much easier to look for excuses.

currently, im working on back to back debilitating injuries keeping me from working out properly (it's been closing in on a year since i've truly worked out hard. it's causing me to become mildly depressed among other reasons which further contributes to my desire to do anything. i'll never get to the point where i'm obese (i hope), but it's definitely adding to weight gain.

It was just really shitty for several months. I wouldn't reference it in this thread if it were still that shitty. I've just had a fairly bad day that put me in the mood of that. Weight loss is a good thing if you're overweight... I'm not really close. I've actually dealt with the being underweight angle for a lot of my life. If you're losing weight from burning energy working out then sure it is usually good. If it's just because you're not eating and unable to exercise because you don't have the time then... well you aren't going to just lose fat. I'm 6'5" and weigh ~190 right now. At earlier points in my life I was this height and weighed 150. No eating disorder, my metabolism was just that high (my weight went up as I got older). My highest weight ever was 210. BMI is a really dumb metric but I've never been overweight according to that (though apparently 210 is about the highest I could have gone without being overweight). I've always done at least some brief anaerobic exercise, but that's not exactly going to keep weight off. edit - i decided the rest of this post was too serious. we should talk about dota or something. or the weirdness of making the valve economics the greek.

I had depression for like 2 years starting 3 years ago. And working out was one of the things that got me out of it. Getting out of depression is just about forcing yourself to do stuff, even when you really don't want it. At some point I realized I hadn't accomplished anywhere near as much as I could have in 2 years. So I started slowly. Good things about working out: If you push yourself really hard you will be too tired to feel anything, including depressed. It gives quite fast result if you're not in form. If you start from untrained you will feel results really fast. (Getting to a fit level requires a lot more dedication obviously but going from "unfit to normal" it is quite easy.) And you really just need results to get out of depression. Pretty much only the feeling of accomplishment will get you out it. And lastly, working out is good for your health : p I hated the idea of going to the gym three years ago. But it's what got me out of depression and continueing on with my life.

He is apparently chosen by the government, but the qualities he is required to display are not those of leadership but those of finely judged outrage. For this reason the President is always a controversial choice, always an infuriating but fascinating character. His job is not to wield power but to draw attention away from it.
