No, I think its the last time he is going to help his buddy learn dota before they dive into the real thing. Maybe. Real games are the hardest for new players. Its why I always have them play carry.

Edit: Sn0 is so right about that. The amount of non-sense in Dota is truly amazing. I have friends to play LoL who couldn't deal with the idea that lich ate his own creeps. Or that smoke exists. Its weird, becuase he plays MtG, which has its own pile of BS stuff.

I find it's hard to even explain the core concepts of dota to complete newcomers, there's so much to learn about the game.

It was pretty painful attempting to explain to my LoL playing friends concepts I take as a given like proper warding spots, which items to buy, how to last hit and deny, uphill missing and such. Then again I realize I was probably the same when I was first playing Dota.

Also the sheer burden of knowledge. Memorizing every 110+ heroes in the game, how they function and the timings is something even veterans probably don't know, let alone all the interactions with passives, the types of damage, etc.

I have a friend who's been playing dota since wc3 and then switched to LoL when it came out, now he sometimes plays dota with me but he's like asking for everything and how to do everything but doesn't listen
"ok what do i buy as earth shaker?" "Blink is pretty core, get it as soon as you can" 10 minutes later he's trying to buy a bkb because "i'm getting nuked"

it's funny because he's the most tryhard of all the friends i play with but seems to just not learn anything ever, it's like he resets his brain after each game lmao

My first ward I placed in middle of trees where it gave zero vision, I also built a Blade Mail on Dazzle in the same game.

I find that the DotA 2 reporter series on youtube sums up pretty well the "just accept it and move on" thing thats going on with DotA logic most of the time.

The main problem I had was teaching them the concept of the lean, mean support or that carries don’t really buy tons of items early on. Also to not use your abilities until its time for a kill, which isn't how LoL works at all.. And Tangos. Explaining to someone that you eat a tree to heal is one of the dumbest parts of dota.

I think riki is a really good learning hero. He is easy for people to wrap their brains around because he is a ninja. You form some bad habits for sure, but I think every hero in dota makes people form bad habits.

And then they meet slark for the first time and snap their keyboard in half.

for my first like 5 games i played axe and always built perseverance. perseverance was the item. I could never remember where the secret shop was though so it would take me a few minutes of walking around to find it so I could get my perseverance

actually my first game was a 1v1 or 2v1 and I think I just bought an SnY recipe because that was the fucking item and then I didn't understand why I didn't have the sweet double sword item and had a scroll instead

Its mostly that he steals stats and becomes immune to clicking during his ult. My buddy could not deal with the concept that slark was completely immune to auto attacks and direct target spells, but could auto attack. It broke him in a profound way that he couldn't do shit and slark healed during it. It was sort of funny.

He refers to me as someone with Dota Stockholm Syndrome. And part of me thinks he is right.
