IDK casters are mostly awful but its a hard job I don't think there is any burden on the player either. But if they are doing to go down that road, they should take it up with the caster directly. It only makes it easier for both parties.

I don't actually know where to post this, but what's your approach to learning DotA? I have some WC3, and LoL experience. I've been playing Troll Warlord in my matches to just learn the game better.
Do you think that (in normal games) that it's better to just spam one hero until I feel comfortable with the game mechanics, or do you think that I should mash random?

Both random and picking one hero is good. Its good to just get comfortable with all of the mechanics / details of the games (ie pulling, what camp spawns where, how towers attack etc etc what item does what), and its important to learn what every hero does so randoming helps with that.
Find a balance and start picking more heroes I think

i mashed random for 3 years and it taught me a lot of general skills but im only really good with 1 or 2 heroes because of it.
|
I'm not godtier good but the way i learned dota is like you said spam a single hero until you get used to the hero and if you feel like you've hit the wall then mash the random button until you find a hero you wanted to learn again. Then i do that again and again.
It also helps that you know what role you are aiming to learn for and focus on that
edit:
like comeh and passiveace said the random button helps you learn the game and be familiar with the other heroes that you may team up and may face.

Play Random Draft all the time until you are qualified for Ranked. Don't be afraid of heroes(except of Meepo and invoker) and just be willing to try anything.
Also:
https://purgegamers.true.io/g/dota-2-guide/
Is a really good site for new players and will show you a lot of the tricks like pulling and other weird dota stuff. A lot of higher level players shit on purge, but he is very helpful for any new player. Or if you just want to look something up like pull times.

Thanks, guys. I'm gonna one-hit wonder with Troll when with my significantly better friend, and just random lock in solo matches.
|
Ability Draft is also good to learn different spells in the game.
|
I never had much problems with learning the spells and complexities of the game when i switched to dota 2 since basically everytime i play wc3 dota i always have typed "-random" most of the time .. and that's many years of playing so when i switched i almost don't random and just focus on heroes go tryhard

Well you picked a nice time to pick up Dota 2 when the game is being drastically altered so you will be on somewhat even footing at least.

I would also recommend random draft or not one of the all pick modes to get started. It has been my personal experience that people in those modes are more willing to accept someone being new on a hero and will flame less. The people who click that mode are signing up for some clowny ass games some times.

Random draft is fucking legit
|
Single draft is also quite fun, but sometimes fucks you over and gives you three shitty heroes you have no idea how to play properly.

i think i've played like 5 games of sd and rd combined in dota 2 ever
|
in hon i only played single draft its such a superior game mode to fucking all pick
|
the more skill you have as a dota player the more you hate all pick
its a theme
|
AP is better than solo queue any other mode though
like solo queuing is just awful but you need to do it but other humans suck man fuckin humanity
|
The largest bummer about ranked is that you can only play all pick or CM simply because they don't want the match making to take to long.
|
Fuck that, I'm keeping my solo MMR below 3k until I feel like it. My party will end nearly 4k though I think.
