the fate of the Grande Armee was a military victory followed by its inability to be supplied and fed in the midst of a burnt Moscow. Napoleon had defeated the Russian army but was lost to the Russian winter.

However by 1941 the change of more than a century's change in logistics meant that the Wehrmacht's defeat came primarily at the hands of the Russian winter counteroffensive aided by the winter and not necessarily by the winter itself.

Invading Russia is just a bad idea in general. There are precious few moments in human history for the invading side. With the expectation of the vikings, but its really hard to tell if they took over or just set up shop there.

Viking are pretty great.

About 100 years before Napoleon Swedish king Carl XII tried to invade Russia and eventually got stopped during winter time. It is said that it was mainly due to his arrogance caused by a previously held win streak but no doubt winter and wilderness played their parts as well.
