don't believe the 'lies' that they're all struggling gamers kids just trying to get through life. I mean day9 used a green screen of his old room for a reason. it's important to give the illusion of the STRUGGLE. Also, I'm not saying they don't deserve it, streaming for a career is actually pretty demanding work if you want to be successful it's just crazy to get some insight into how much they really make.

Usually once waga is on for a few hours he has like 5-10k right? Anyway waga has a sub counter on the top right everyday and I always see it at like 20-40+. He just started today and it's already 1 sub, lol. Not to mention the constant stream of donation messages coming in. He's definitely making more than most pros/casters doing this. idk man you'll see rtz/dendi/sing like close to 30k viewers sometimes and that's with many other streamers streaming sometimes even with waga and adb on the field but idk if any of them outside gets a lot of subs

Well Moon has like a year more experience already with just being solely a dota 2 player so he's probably better atm. He also has dota 2 comp experience and NEL experience, etc. Testie's techincally played Dota 2 for a while but just with friends, he's only recently switched and taken ranked seriously. Think he calibrated at like 4.5k, now he's 6k. I didn't play or follow HoN so I'm not sure who was better at that game. Testie is talented though so I'm sure he will do somewhat decently although I have no idea if he will reach the same level he was in HoN.

I think the biggest thing that he does is read and respond to messages. this makes people want to have THEIR message read and responded to also. basic reward theory, its actually really smart. sing doesn't get nearly as many donations for this reason I think. he doesn't read anything on stream, so why bother to write anything to him? if he responded to messages he would make bank bc of all the stupid shit that people would say. or if he had a 'secretary-chan' read them off bc they otherwise go unnoticed all together. Wagamamma style except before streaming was quite so popular/profitable? Like he never spent any substantial amount of time on a top team before disbanding again iirc.

I don't really think they "exploited people" as much as were young kids that got large fan bases and didn't know what to do with them. Everyone from Artosis to Incontrol were guys trying to make a living and generally pumped about Esport shit. They got into things that didn't pan out and sometimes got their fans burned. I have never thought they did it on purpose and I don't think they really harmed in any long lasting way. I know this because I see every day what deception and people making mistakes can do to their lives. I know because I'm the one who gets to help clean up the mess. That's the difference between you and me. I think the best of people, you think the worst. Honestly you're just not informed enough to have an opinion one way or another. You can see the best in people, that's fine. I'm definitely more cynical than most. However, if that post just now is your position, you clearly haven't followed their careers on anything more than a superficial level. Incontrol while a bit of a buffoon at times in the public eye more or less fits your description. He's matured quite a bit since the early days of gosuguides etc., but Artosis is a whole different beast. It's pointless to argue about this any further though so whatever.

I'm not sure if this is a good thing or not because there's always been some kind of weird stigma against 'selling out' in dota, but monetizing viewers with donations is kind of a grey area for me

Like waga consistently gets some pretty big donations.

I'm pretty sure he was quite sucessfull in some teams, a lot more than Waga in Dota 2. Streaming probally made him more money though.
