I'm usually around quite often to read this thread and a few others on TL, so if anyone has a suggestion or something they want added literally just ask and I can probably help out. Unfortunately some stuff might require R1CH's help (like adding flairs/heroes), but I can still do most things with my admin tools.
edit: Also Sn0 are you up to date on WoT? Curious what you thought of EP 8... Just watched ep 8 last night.
Honestly, I think I just expected too much. Its probably fine TV it's just not the Wheel of Time as I envisaged it.
I'll watch S2 etc i'm just not as excited as I hoped i'd be.

Its probably fine TV it's just not the Wheel of Time as I envisaged it. I'll watch S2 etc i'm just not as excited as I hoped i'd be. Despite reading the series multiple times, I wouldn't consider myself a crazy book purist that expected/needed an exact adaptation. I was mostly fine going in knowing some things would be changed to make everything fit in an 8 episode season. Unfortunately I think they changed too much, and some of the changes are so integral to the overall story that it just doesn't feel like WoT to me anymore. I was kind of on the fence for a bit, but EP 8 was just a big pile of "why?" for me.
Also the quality just isn't there either when comparing it with other good fantasy shows. GoT is obviously a fairly high standard to reach, but I at least hoped it would have Witcher levels of production value (it definitely does not). I'll give S2 a fair shot as I can at least sympathize with them losing Barney Harris before shooting EP 7/8, and dealing with a long covid shutdown after filming the first 6. I don't think those are good excuses for poor writing, but at least the production might be better next season.
TLDR: I sad.

The Witcher S1 was pretty fun but meh overall, S2 is way better, in every single way.

I watched Ryusuke Hamaguchi's film Drive My Car yesterday. I expected a great film, but it ended up changing my life. I broke down crying during the finale and ended up finally realizing and accepting that I don't have to make myself suffer for my past mistakes anymore. It's the best and most impactful piece of media I've ever seen.

I personally really enjoyed both seasons (with S2 being a lot better). Despite them ignoring the source material, in a lot of ways it's still a strong show on its own merit. Henry Cavill is also literally Geralt in every way as well lol. Don't think there's anyone with as big of a name as him that could have pulled it off like he does.

Poland is mad about witcher series because it's not exactly like in books and also it has some black people playing white characters lol, they literally made a petition to fire the showrunner

I have read the WoT books a whole lot and was a pretty big fan growing up. I think I'm pretty in line with you emu - I am like...moderately disappointed? The show is fine but not what I want it to be? idk
One thing I've been thinking about is how the thing that really makes WoT great for me is the world building. The writing is pretty bad (maybe battle scenes and a few other things excluded). The fundamental story isn't that interesting. But the world is giant and really cool and so many parts of it are well developed and made me want to learn more / engage with the world like it was real.
And like - I'm not sure that you can really capture that in 8 or 16 episodes or whatever? Certainly I don't feel like they're succeeding for me here. I totally get that they have to move things along at a very different pace due to TV but I think a lot is lost.
Anyway my gf enjoys it fine / kinda likes it more than me (she has never read the books) which I thought was interesting. I will keep watching. We'll see. It'd be cool if it got really good.

Unfortunately Amazon is really adamant on 8 episode seasons being the optimal solution for a lot of their original shows. Also from what I understand, assuming WoT keeps getting renewed they are looking to do 8 seasons in total as that's what the showrunner originally presented to Amazon. I feel like Amazon really needs to let them do 10 EPs a season and possibly extend the premier to 2 hours. For example more time in the Two Rivers/Emond's field would have been amazing for the viewers to establish a connection to that place, and to the characters as well. As you said the world building is incredible, and it's just not possible to establish anything with their current allotted airtime.
As expected the main complaint I've had from non book reader friends/family is that the world seems kind of shallow. There's been a lot of things kind of half introduced but not really explained beyond a line or two of dialogue. I think they did well setting up White Tower politics and the Whitecloaks for future seasons at least.
+ Show Spoiler +I do also like that they gave a glimpse of the sci-fi aspect of the Age of Legends already. Really nice touch. The books don't really do that until much later.

On the topic of movies. Don't watch Matrix 4, I beg you.

Did your movie night end in disappointment? :/

I’ve heard it’s extremely bad if you care about the original trilogy. Passable if you don’t really care or remember anything.

On the contrary, Don't look up on Netflix it's pretty good and nice take on how the world works when it comes to politics and society.
And has one hell of a good cast

It is expected that Matrix 4 is not as revolutionary as the first or even 2nd or 3rd movie. I will watch it at some point, maybe even in the cinemas, if only for the special effects.
Not really expecting much beyond being entertained by a bombastic spectacle of fight scenes and nice CGI.
