I dunno, Im not sure sc2 ever had a chance in the market against stuff like fortnite and LoL. Starcraft just isn't as accessible to a widening market compared to the other "competitive" games.

Brood war made more sense when the market for computer games was young, male and nerdy. Now that basically everyone under 45 plays video games, I think RTS' and cRPG's and the other old genres are going to become increasingly niche or evolve in to something more accessible the way XCOM did.

Why can't U swipe down for reload or left/right for history using Firefox mobile?
That would be a very qol addition to the app.
I think it's at least 18 months since I last complained about that

sc2 didnt need to compete against fortnite and LoL... an esports game doesnt need to be player accessible to the wide market. it merely needs to be accessible to watch and have a competitive player base with continual new blood, even if it is "niche". fgc games have existed like this for a long time

Very false, in my opinion. People love to say that, but for a game to be a good and popular esport, it first needs to have solid foundations as a good and popular game.

Like, when has there been a good/popular esport that was not a good/popular game first?

what i meant by "wide market" is Passive's "widening market" of people who arent young, male, and nerdy.

to restate what i think:
i dont really buy the argument that a game such as sc2 had no chance as an esport title because its not accessible to this "widening market" of people who arent young, male, and nerdy. i didnt say that the game didnt need to be good/popular.

heck league is still stupidly inaccessible to most people. people only view it as "accessible" when they played something like dota. the only extra thing going for it is that they made cute characters too

I agree that having good competitors and a way for spectators to watch is enough to keep a esports community for a particular game alive, but those sorts of games are always going to live in the shadow of stuff like fortnite.

I'm not trying to say that sc2 was never a great esport with a great community, or that it won't continue to have a modest but successful competitive scene. I really just can't imagine a scenario where a game with as high a skill cap as starcraft comes to dominate the wider competitive scene. Consumer tastes have become too broad for that to happen again imo

Let's just hope biden wins and we can start the process of healing the wounds of the USA. Might be a long road though.

I am increasingly convinced the only end to the political divide in the United States will be one of violence.

I've been wondering if a Biden win will provoke some of the militia types into staging attacks on government buildings again.

To be fair, for some idiotic reason, michigan had a law explicitly stating that was legal.

In vaguely humorous political news, a cnn legal commentator and new yorker writer apparently uh, exposed himself (and more) on zoom because he forgot the camera was on.

I found this to be a topical and good read on how the current gaping chasm in the American polity really boils down to the loss of trust with others and with their institutions. One president can't correct this; it relies more on the grassroots and local environment where you can rebuild trust, like with churches, unions, civic groups and volunteering.
