Brood war made more sense when the market for computer games was young, male and nerdy. Now that basically everyone under 45 plays video games, I think RTS' and cRPG's and the other old genres are going to become increasingly niche or evolve in to something more accessible the way XCOM did.

People love to say that, but for a game to be a good and popular esport, it first needs to have solid foundations as a good and popular game. Like, when has there been a good/popular esport that was not a good/popular game first? | ||

I'm not trying to say that sc2 was never a great esport with a great community, or that it won't continue to have a modest but successful competitive scene. I really just can't imagine a scenario where a game with as high a skill cap as starcraft comes to dominate the wider competitive scene. Consumer tastes have become too broad for that to happen again imo | ||
