I'm super burned out and want to get away from my highly capitalist consultancy asap :-/ True face shows in crisis as they say and it's not what I would call pretty. Maybe I'm too soft but I don't wann a sell services that aren't needed just so we can make some money. And what I consider a decent quality service is consistently judged as too high quality (internally) and considered too much effort.
In short I'm super unhappy. Actually kinda depressed and doing therapy for that. So that's that. It's also hard for me to go for a change as what I've done the last 4 years hasn't proven to really be my thing. But what I really wanna do is a question I have not honestly asked myself in 15 years so it's about time.
We'll see if it will be actual part time. I know my Prof. does support this part time approach (other Profs still expect 120% workweeks), but due to homeoffice and corona I can imagine that work hours and private time become blurry.
Oh damn. That sounds unpleasant. :\ Hope you find something more fullfilling. Working for the company bottom line like that sounds exhausting.
To me there is a tradeoff between saving 2+ hours of commute every day and being a bit less productive in the homeoffice. Which should be the company's risk and not yours if you're going by a strictly employee friendly approach. There's always a way in between to find though, if you want to. Rules of what is allowed in the homeoffice and what not are important I think and going out to get a bit of sunlight during break times as well. Apart from that as the nerds we are we're lucky to actually have computer screens to use at home. Without at least one I feel productivity drops at least by a third.
And yes, I'm really feeling uncomfortable with work right now to a degree that it's unbearable. I also really regret letting my colleague down who has to shoulder so much shit right now due to me being out of the picture, but I have to put myself first now. Otherwise this spiral will never end. Thanks for the wishes.

Just started last night so I'm only a little bit into it. Took a 1-2 week break after finishing the game on normal before starting.
Also I'm extremely excited for the next installment, I just really hope it doesn't take square 5 more years. Hopefully they've already started and can get it out in the next 1-3 instead.
I'm really hoping there arnt big gaps between installments as well. First time iv been excited for a ff game in years. Also hoping they do Chrono cross next lol
I would probably prefer to see Chrono Trigger, but either would be really cool tbh.
Honestly I usually look forward to FF games regardless, but I'd be lying if I said I haven't been let down by every installment after 10. 15 had a lot of potential, but the open world was too open/boring and the last few chapters of the story went downhill. 13 was just linear and had mediocre characters. Not gonna talk about 12, although I heard the remaster fixes some things...
I agree it's been a rough road since 10 :p. I think they may have found a combat system that has serious legs and I hope they keep building it up. A Chrono trigger remake with a similar combat system would be incredible
Chrono Trigger combat system is still one of my favorites, althou octopath traveler is also amazing, it actually feels like chess, you really need to think like 3 turns ahead
Gears 5 was short (<20 hrs) but overall pretty fun. Parts of it had an open world which felt pretty weird in terms of flow. It was my first in the genre/series so I don't have anything to compare it to but its worth a shot on sale. The only game that I bought at launch price for years was RDR2 and I stopped playing it at like 10% completion -_-
Something I just thought about, I don't think there's ever gonna be another big semi/mainstream 'proper esport' like Dota, Counter Strike, SC/WC or even LoL and fighting games.
The casual streaming scene is too big for that. Why bother with fostering a competitive scene if you can just pay a couple of famous streamers to make a streamer showdown/invitational and get more eyes on your product for less effort. And forget about grassroots esports, it's all in the hands of the game's publisher now.
Because the whole point of having a pro scene is to sell the game through tournaments and keep players through fans thats why games without a pro scene are dying really quickly. They sell well for a couple of weeks/months then crash cuz players have moved on

My commute is ~10 minutes, so I actually would like to have a physical distance between work and private space. But we'll see how that develops.
I am sure you already know that, but in this case you should not worry about your colleague. Yes, it's harder for him now in the short term, but it would become even harder in the long term if you don't take the time you need for yourself. Endless altruism is something you have to put aside if you are not comfortable with yourself. I am sure your colleague understands that. If not, it's not a colleague you should feel bad for. We can take this to PMs if you like to.
