I am staying at University till the end of the year as scientific assistant, or whatever the english term for that is. It's only a 30h work week and the pay isn't great for people with my qualification, but I am more than happy that I don't have too look for a job during this pandemic. And in Thuringia it's actually not bad money tbh. I know people in Munich earn almost twice as much, but at the same time a friend of mine pays 1400€ rent for a tiny single room apartment in Munich, while I pay 1/3rd of that for twice as much space. I think I'll enjoy working only 6h a day for this summer and look for something else for next year. I Thought at University we have fixed tariffs (TVöD) and they are not bad at all? Roundabout 50k for a full time PhD student. Unless you're a "Werkstudent" until then, that's not too much but still not too little either. | ||

Yea, I was offered that position back in December and I thought to myself: Why not just take it for this year to get a financial buffer before I start moving somewhere without any money. Also, I was too lazy to look for a job while writing the thesis. But now I am really glad that I picked that option in December. Whats your status? I thought you changed already? Or do you want to change again? Yea it's fixed tariffs. But consider it's only 75%of that. So it is not a lot. I know of people who started at 75k in rich regions. | ||

I'm super burned out and want to get away from my highly capitalist consultancy asap :-/ True face shows in crisis as they say and it's not what I would call pretty. Maybe I'm too soft but I don't wann a sell services that aren't needed just so we can make some money. And what I consider a decent quality service is consistently judged as too high quality (internally) and considered too much effort. In short I'm super unhappy. Actually kinda depressed and doing therapy for that. So that's that. It's also hard for me to go for a change as what I've done the last 4 years hasn't proven to really be my thing. But what I really wanna do is a question I have not honestly asked myself in 15 years so it's about time. | ||

I know my Prof. does support this part time approach (other Profs still expect 120% workweeks), but due to homeoffice and corona I can imagine that work hours and private time become blurry. Oh damn. That sounds unpleasant. :\ Hope you find something more fullfilling. Working for the company bottom line like that sounds exhausting. | ||
