Its probably safer to be an air force reservist than to be a construction worker (which admittedly isn't microsoft but the point stands).
As a reservist you only work one weekend a month so you need a full time job to go along with it. Poor example.

its also interesting that a lot of you percieve the army as a company as far as advertising goes because I never looked at it that way,i guess there really is no difference all in all

America kinda does, regardless of your opinions on the validity of their use.

I mean its the air force reserve thats sponsoring an "eSport" team (Cloud9) which seemed to be the relevant discussion point. I neither know nor care about "marines" advertisements at nba games lol.

The US military has advertised for years on all mediums and its good they are coming to Esports. Its money into the scene and good for teams. A lot of people in the military are gamers in some way shape or form. You find a lot of guys in the army play D&D, Magic and board games. Like way more that you would ever think. It only seems natural that they might dive into sponsoring a professional Esports team.
The air force specifically needs a large number of technical service members, including people who handle all those planes that fly around, engineers and any other number of high skill professions. Advertising alongside video games only make sense for them.
And in the US there are a huge number of benefits that come with being in the armed services. My brother has gotten all his civilian training for free, his medical expenses are covered and he is well paid in his position at the army base he works at. He has also worked on disaster relief on top of being deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The military isn’t all shooting people. Really, that is the least likely thing you are going to do when you join. Especially the airforce.

On the topic of "controversial" sponsors...

My initial guess is Cloud9 considering their demonstrated willingness to work with non-traditional (energy drink and computer hardware) sponsors. However it also looks at least somewhat possible that they are "title-sponsoring" a team, as in signing the team to their brand rather than just becoming a sponsor.
It could also just be a league team since I assume worlds is occuring sometime soonish and now would be a great time to get ur branding on a LoL team.

This needs to be here too, as we are discussing sponsors:
Edit: 15s too late lol

Riot has some restrictions about stuff like this, so perhaps its some T2 dota team?

You cut out other sponsors who don't want to be associated with pornography by accepting their money. This was discussed a long time ago when someone from the FGC wanted to be sponsored by Brazzers and Evo was like "No, not so much please". And if the FGC isn't ok with it, it will never fly in dota.

howd i not think of that one comeh u jenius
E: jesus tl.net LoL thread delivers:
"My body is ready" has never been so appropriate

soo ok that's another thing I don't really get how is it in the interest of a site like youporn to get that kind of exposure I mean arent these sites techincally sorta like megaupload, piratbay, etc, since user content that people upload there is actually pirated obviously that shit flys because people dont see the point of prosecuting it because there are a million of these sites or what? but still it feels like a bad idea to stick your head out like that and actually "sponsor" something
|
are you assuming youporn is an illegal business? I'm pretty sure it's not. It's a video collection site, just like many other tubes that are protected (at least in the USA) under safe harbor laws.
|
Think of it like youtube. They just provide hosting services, and take stuff down if there are complaints while denying any sort of responsibility and making money off of the advertisements.
Traffic = money.
|
youporn is maybe the most known porn site of the world, they hardly can get anymore exposure
And those big porn sites, really don't have pirated content either.
