Also none of these things are putting you into a warzone and killing people, you know. And the Ads they show are not forcing anyone to join. They make up their own mind when it comes to joining. We can't have violent games and argue they have no effect on people while claiming an ad for military service is manipulative and tricks people into joining. If anything, I'd be more worried about TV ads leaking into Twitch streams. That shit's both stupid and inevitable.

I'm really quite fine with it.

no one is getting worked up,i just asked a question how you people feel about it...

It is a totally legitimate to say that the ads are a strange juxtaposition to the light hearted games being shown on the stream. It isn’t unreasonable for you to see the ad as saying “Do you like this fake violence? How about some real violence?” and being uncomfortable about that association. But that doesn’t mean the ads are bad or that the arm services is bad. And it is more productive to discuss the weird juxtaposition, rather than saying “Yo, these ads are morally questionable” because they really aren’t.

I would say you might have worded your initial question a little poorly with the "disgusting" line. In life you are going to run into people who feel very strongly about military service, especially in the US, so you might want to use some different verbiage to express your reservations about the ads.

It's a company looking for employees, advertising in a place where their advertising reaches almost exclusively their target market (young males).
How do you feel about microsoft advertising at career fairs at programming schools? Literally the only way you could possibly be "off-put" by that is if you hate microsoft lol.

I think working at Microsoft is a bit different than being in the armed forces, you're potentially participating directly in war. What I mean I don't think it's necessarily as bad for example.
I personally don't really mind it though, it's not that big of a deal to me.

ok first off all working for microsoft and going to the army is like, not even comparable second off all im not questioning that they are advertising it,im just questioning the way they do it if anything. i have no problem with people going to the army, but if i see such aggresive marketing it rather poots me off than makes me join, which is my whole point.

I think a lot of people don't view the army as a company. And how the army works is vastly diferent from place to place.

anyhow, I think you're upset about the way they tried to take advantage of using cgi effects to better relate to the audience (kids that play video games), which is a form of targeted marketing that every competent corporation/organization will abuse.
if you claim that don't have any issue with the organization itself nor what it does, then why don't you have a problem with any other company advertising?

People are pretty aware that you have to fight if you join the military. I think it is pretty clear when they take you to the firing range during basic what is going on.

PS @Nixer: The air force reserve is again like one of the least-likely places to suffer combat casualties. Its probably safer to be an air force reservist than to be a construction worker (which admittedly isn't microsoft but the point stands).

Well, that's you. I'm pretty sure they have enough experience in the field to realize there must be some people that will be attracted to their way of advertizing if they pushed through with it.

You'd be surprised of how many people don't realize the risk of trauma, PTSD which might after all affect you for the rest of your life.
But like I said, I personally am not against this kind of advertising or that it shouldn't be allowed at all. I might have a small gripe with it but nothing major.

That's of course true but I was talking about the recruitment in general. What I guess I'm trying to say is that I can understand if you have strong feelings about this kind of targeting.

Dude, we made a FREE VIDEO GAME to advertise our military. And it was a pretty good one too. Americas army legit game
