Far too many for you to follow. Okay. Is that a problem? There's far too many of most sports matches for most fans of those sports to follow as well.
The only reason people make these arguments is because they used to be able to watch everything. That doesn't mean they're supposed to, if the demand is there, it's not a problem. i didnt say it was a problem, i just said there were too many

There is a big difference in watching a match and actually buying a ticket. Eversince the scene got a little oversatured each match feels like a bountyhunterseries to me, which is fine because i still enjoy every match. But you can never get a storyline like LCS or WCS in a oversaturated scene, classico's dont even exsist in dota2 as they face eachother every week anyway. I miss the storylines and the hype towards classic finals from sc2 a bit i guess. Ahh well cant have everything

Well, there's definitely too many from the organisers point of view. I'm sure every individual organiser would prefer there were less events, it would be less competition for them, etc. From that point I think it's definitely over saturated, some events are not gonna last. But that's 'natural selection', it's not bad in any way I don't think, it's bound to happen.

Just because they don't smack you over the face with them constantly doesn't mean they aren't there.
Hell right now there's a pretty good storyline in the NB/DK match where NB and DK have been trading wins back and forth the past two days. They went 4-4 yesterday and are 2-1 right now at this time.
There was the return of Alliance at Dreamleague. There is the EG storyline to look forward to as well at ESL. Which one will show up?
There are storylines, there are plenty of them. They just aren't spread out as much as people are used to.
EDIT: Got a bit personal, no reason for that.

as long as they bundle items with tourneys people will buy the tickets, nobody really cares if they watch it in the end. Also the playerbase is still growing, as long this is the case, the competitive scene will be fine.

It would be nice if we had like 2 leagues that were main instead of like 6 leagues that are all about the same size.

Yes because WCS/LCS are the ideal standards and all games should strive to be like them. This way there is an even harder barrier of entry for new teams to get in to the scene. Wouldn't want anything like SNA, NAR, or Dog accidentally getting in there.

Exactly, dota2 scene is not bad but i never get a hypetrain like in gsl, where i really really wanted someone to win, to see the develeopment of the gsl and dont miss any matches at all. GSL organisation is really good at that hypetrain and productionvalue.

I think people get hyped for big LAN finals that have both West and East teams. StarLadder, Summit, ESL, Ace. The only thing that's dumb is how close together they all are. Of course TI has a gigantic hypetrain behind it.

im pretty hyped for esl one i must say but im going there so its kinda a special case

It's only natural for people to get less 'hyped' for the same things as they would have 2 years ago because of the growth of the scene.
I used to watch the UFC 6 years ago and I'd get pretty hyped for almost every event. Nowadays it takes something pretty special for that to happen. Not only because there are more events now, but there's also been more events in the past, both of these factors make the majority of events less 'special'.
People's expectations for what's mildly entertaining and what's super exciting change. After TI1 an online final for a 10k tournament would be super hype. And even if we didn't have an enormous increase in tournaments, those kinds of tournaments still wouldn't be as interesting today because we would have already seen a ton of them.
It really all comes down to tournament organizers and teams. It is both of their jobs to make us want to watch them, 'over saturation' is a shitty excuse for people not being excited.
And in Dota, I think teams already do this. Teams have always been the driving force of viewership. And if people just start watching the teams that they want to watch instead of following all the tournaments it's not really a problem, and guess what, according to the numbers that's what the majority of people were always doing anyway.
|
I don't mind there being "too many" tournaments at all. I like the aspect of "let's see what's on today: oh look at that DK vs Newbie are gonna play soon".
Anyway, LANs never have a problem generating hype, no matter how many there are (their viewership number reflect this). As for too many simultaneous online group stages going on at once, you're not gonna be able to watch every game, but that's normal in other sports, just watch the games of the team you're interested in.

Theres nothing more boring than LCS, an entire year of useless matches because unless you are MUFC, you arent getting dropped

Guys, how do you play Meepo in pubs without getting hard countered every game?
