It was quite cool but i don't see it anymore since the year beast update. That thing literally never worked for me or anyone I know. All it was was a map of the world that sat there for me to stare at and wonder why this thing that's supposed to be lit up hasn't done anything ever.

Btw: Shouldn't tournaments want to breastfeed their content to me? :p To be honest I was wondering about that myself. It seems a bit weird to criticise what amounts to "some tournaments haven't got enough exposure, they're not displayed where lots of people look for tournaments so people don't know about them". It shouldn't be difficult to find out about what amounts to an entertainment product they're trying to sell to people and attract viewers to. If anything they should be trying to shove the tournament down everybody's throats so its virtually impossible to miss. Unless they don't want viewers for some strange reason. Hell, I know opterown posted the link to submit them and I know a lot of volunteers around here do that kind of work...but honestly shouldn't tournament organisers be more proactive in going around various key websites to advertise this stuff themselves? I mean that's all part of running an entertainment product...advertising it. Its not as if TL is a tiny niche site in esports; even if its not at the very top for DOTA2 its still a major player. And it takes all of two or three minutes to fill out the form.

for TL, it's pretty much just nethzor and me who do all the dota 2 calendar stuff. see here and look at the people who submit them ;p. it's not easy especially for dumb events like jDL which get moved around whenever the wind changes, especially since most EU events are outside of my own time zone so i can't update them on-the-fly. i do know when tournaments are on but i'm reluctant to calendar events like yard white or jDL which have very spotty english stream coverage, and netolic uses dailymotion which i have to jump through hoops in order to get on here. that, along with its shady reputation kinda turn me off putting it on the calendar. at the very least, i think the majors and premiers are all on the calendar. i do like to think that TL's calendar is far superior to other calendars for chinese/korean events ;p mainly cos those are in my time zone so i can keep tabs on them much better than the EU or US ones. you guys should use the LRs more, the LR culture is an important and fun part of TL and it's sad to see these all looking bare. if anyone is interested in helping out with the calendar you can start with submitting events with the aforementioned form, and if you're nice and reliable i'll see if we can get you calendar admin powers (which is what i have). anyway, if anyone has any feedback or suggestions about the dota 2 calendar feel free to give me a poke. thanks!

It can be used to discuss draft, strategy results. Things that probably should be filling the tourney thread.

I think a proper matchticker would be good though. I don't read german, but Readmore is also pretty good for a matchticker: http://www.readmore.de/

Most really popular games spawn multiple spinoffs or sequals. For example, Diablo 2 spawned Torchlight 2, D3, PoE, and a bunch of other ARPGs (sure you could say Diablo 1 was the original, whatever). MOST of the games tend to take a "casualization" route where they isolate what they believe was the best, most unique and fun element of the game and then try to make that more accessible and available to players. Which makes sense, after a fashion. But there is often that one game that instead takes the game, and pushes it in a much more complex direction. "Harcore-izing" the game if you will. PoE is that game for ARPGs. Now, regardless of the true origination of ARTSs, Dota is clearly the first one that was big enough to be it's own game. And there have been unending casualizations of the game to the point where there are now casualizations of casualizations of casualizations of the game. But nobody has ever tried to take it to the next level of complexity. So I ask you guys, what would an even more hardcore version of Dota look like? Is it possible to make a game deeper and more rewarding in a manner that also retains the core identity at all? A game that could still be called the "spiritual successor" of Dota, but even more complex? I'm actually kinda inclined to say no but I got to thinking about it and now I want to hear other's opinions.

Dota is kind of at the sweetspot of the difficult to fun ratio imo. You could just make mechanics more arbitrary and boom you have a more complex game, the question is if you could make it sufficiently interesting or if the difficulty actually adds anything to the genre

Millions of incorrect people according to me. I mean this is at least partially devil's advocate since I agree to an extent. Dota's already fiendishly difficult to properly understand and strategize. Understanding how literally a hundred heroes interact with each other is wildly more complex than it sounds at first. But still.

I bet there are some people who would enjoy an even more complex version of dota, and some that would be supremely annoyed, its really a matter of taste and what the changes actually add to the game. complexity can come in a variety of forms, it could just be more arbitrarily confusing mechanics or it could be something more subtle that actually adds the experience. I think broadly asking if a more "complex" game would be better is impossible to answer. If wer talking about game design, we should identify what about dota is most rewarding for the player and think of mechanics that emphasize those aspects, while throwing concepts like complexity, "casualfriendly", and "hardcoreness" out the window.

How could you intelligently make dota harder, more complex, less simple, whatever. What kind of system would make dota a deeper game? obviously we are talking about systems that at least COULD be fun, not just "well dota would be more complex if you spawned on a random map huehuehue" Like, you could replace the skill levelling system with a "skill tree" system but that doesn't seem great since a big part of dota is the identity of heroes which would be compromised IMO. Etc etc.
