Can you explain what you mean by this? Are you seriously suggesting that anyone in the 3k range has zero understanding about the heroes they play? Yes, or else they wouldn't be 3k rated. Please. I'm below 3k and I have a reasonable understanding of the handful of heroes I play. I'm no pro and no dota scholar, but I know my stuff when it matters. I can't alway back it up mechanically, but that doesn't make me a dota fool. I think you'd be surprised how little you know if you were chucked into even a 4k game, and they're pretty bad too. No I wouldn't, because I have played with members of TL who are at that skill level or higher and gotten worked over. I am fully aware of my skill level in dota 2 and how much I don't know about the game.
But I have seen terrible dota 2 players who barely understand how the game works. I am not one of them.

Valve really needs a way to reward people with visible, tangible swagpoints of some variety for playing TMM, or some other real incentive. That would fix ratings as the actual rating of a group of 5 players should be MUCH more accurate.
|
Dota's a problematic game because it can be very rewarding even if you make mistakes, like, let's say, relying on invis as an escape mechanism. So you'd keep relying on it, keep getting rewarded for it because no one buys detection in your mmr and you're thinking you're hot stuff because you went 30-0-0 on Riki.
Then you go up the MMR and suddenly people shit all over you because you're not used to actually having map awareness and gamesense, suddenly your invis isn't enough to get you to safety. Now you have no farm, all your towers are gone and the game is extremely one sided. How the fuck did this happen? unbalanced matchmaking valve PLEASE
That's Dota. Just because you win does not mean you played well, that's the truth of it.
a problem of mine was Invoker sunstrikes. I used to be able to sunstrike easily because everyone would walk in straight lines, but all of a sudden people started juking my sunstrikes. No easy sunstrikes = no kills = no farm = turns out I'm a really bad Invoker fuck this game

Can you explain what you mean by this? Are you seriously suggesting that anyone in the 3k range has zero understanding about the heroes they play? Yes, or else they wouldn't be 3k rated. I'm in 4k currently and iam terrible and my allies are terrible, a lot of players build their heros bad, terrible skill builds and teamfights are pretty much use all the abilities and hope your team wins. I totally disagree. I'm about 3800 solo rating, I am by no means good at this game, but to go so far as to say that I don't have a deeper understanding of Dota beyond my skill level is absurd(again, I'm not saying I understand this game through and through, but bear with me here). Dota isn't a game that can be so easily skill-bracketed like this, and I honestly think the skill rating is totally dumb in this game. It's a 10 man game, with 5 guys one each team having to achieve a level of co-operation that is rarely found in any videogame. Sure, you can get a decent idea of the level a player is at, but I don't think you can make such broad assumptions based on something so volatile as MMR in this game. I just think that in a team game like this, it is incredibly inappropriate to make these kinds of generalizations. If I were to play solo queue for 50 games, at the rate I'm going I'd probably go up at least 500 MMR. But I don't play solo ranked much because I prefer playing with friends who are lower ranked than I am. I'm sure there are plenty of people in the same boat. Having that been said, we're probably in the minority... I guess I'm just annoyed by this ignorant generalization and I don't get why it's okay to do this kinda shit. i personaly think its not a practical mmr system for this game and therefore flawed but thats another discussion for another day. But i also think that someone with 3k mmr in the current system doesnt have proskills or knowledge on/about any hero or even better any role. If he would, he would not have 3k mmr, the system isnt that flawed.
Well, I agree with you now. Sub like, 5.5k people don't have a pro level of understanding of heroes/roles, but that wasn't clear originally. You made it sound like we were just mindless idiots :p

Is this like... supposed to happen? I feel dirty...
http://i.imgur.com/bkqHZ4F.jpg
So, I randomed Lycan in RMM and the others just told me to solo it (wanted jungle but whatever). Absolutely destroyed the Pudge I was against just by setting the wolves on him, he couldn't come near the creep wave and had to base and I got total free farm. Got about lvl 6 and 3/0/2/1 on the skill build when AA tp'd to the lane to try and stop me free farming, just set the wolves on him, a few right clicks before cold feet froze me and he died (wolves chased/killed between T1/T2).
Ember Spirit was doing okay but a few minutes later I went to stop him pushing a tower and just accidentally killed him. Picked up aegis, blew up all their towers and well... christ it just seemed broken. Near the end of the game I just ran 1v5 in to their base and got a triple kill without dying, it's not even like I was sneaky or had an invis rune or anything, I just saw them high ground in their base and pressed R... I essentially never got involved in maybe more than 1 team fight the whole game and generally just went and did whatever and then 20 minutes later oh dear you all seem to be dead and all your towers as well? Didn't even have to get necronomicon.
I mean, I've played ~1000 games but this was only my 7th ever Lycan game and okay I haven't played him for a while (before 6.79) since some of his buffs AND I think the guy I was laning against was retarded AND I never got ganked AND their tri lane just fed our tri lane but... man... Beware the wolf...

Farming patterns for tinker? Which camps should i prioritise and stacking etc
Will usually go laser rockets build just for the early kill potential, but max march if I'm having a shitty time mid. I usually go bottle, soul ring, BoT, blink, dagon into EB (hex, shivas, linkens if game goes on long enough)
I feel like my cs is a little low, and I'm not so good with ancient stacking while playing radiant mid (although would be willing to commit to it if it is a large increase in gpm). I know how to farm the 3 radiant camps at once, but I'm trying not to steal farm from carries etc
Only 3.8k mmr

That's Dota. Just because you win does not mean you played well, that's the truth of it.
You played well relative to the others you were playing against. It can be seen a mistake, but it can also just be knowing the weaknesses of your enemy and taking advantage of it. If you're aware that the enemy isn't going to buy detection, because they're bad, then you can rely on invis as an escape mechanism.
But as you said, you can't get away with it forever as you play better opponents. The good players will adjust though and be able to exploit some other new weakness. It just becomes less obvious the higher in skill you get. So it depends on your mindset. Are you using invis as a crutch to hide other weaknesses like map awareness? Or are you using invis, because you know it's the best way to exploit your opponent at a given level of skill and win games.
BTW, I'm not disagreeing with anything you've said.

We are mindless <3k idiots
Best example is a supportpicker at 3k mmr. This person will 99% of the time go to a lane and wont come out until after 15 minutes when all the tier1 towers are gone. After that, they will transition to the jungle to farm If at an early stage a lane has a problem, this support will 99% of the time not go to the other lane to be usefull, help, gank or whatever. Nope, they will leech xp from there carry untill america has a republican president, bm the hell out of the other lane, be as unefficient as possible and ... report!!! And the carries treat there support like shit, its really unheard off.
|
lycan new safe fotm op unkillable farming waveclear laning split pushing jungle assassin teamfight carry
|
Well "ward his jungle" is actual advice vs lycan tho not just a troll XD.
|
The ward must be followed up by at least two players then trying to kill him. I have played games where people just watch him slowly farm and I had to prompt them to help me gank.
|
Well if you have vision of a lycan whose intent is to suicide to a jungle camp (the KwarK build) you probably don't need allies to go pick up some delicious free gold lol.

And the carries treat there support like shit, its really unheard off.
Eh, I choose to believe in people more than that. Sure, there are people who pick a support and suck ass at it, but they probably just aren't support players. As a support player, I admit my carry decision making is atrocious more often than not. But I think my support play is more than half decent, however there are time where I have to play carry(as unbelievable as that is, it's true). Some people just don't play the roles they pick. However, there are people who simply suck at every role, but I have no way of knowing that unless they volunteer that information.
Also, I still choose to believe in myself, I'm no mindless idiot! :D

There are no players in the 3k range that understand basically anything about playing 1 particular hero. Next to that there mechanics like mine suck, if this wasnt the case they would be in the 5+k range anyway. Secondly, I dont care about someone elses tryhard rank at 3k range anymore. Certainly not after i have dealt with feeders, dq-ers, trolls and badmannered in allmost every AP game till today. I am not talking about CM or CD here, just plain AP games. Fighting with supports for cs and begging for a ward. I just dont care anymore in AP games man, glhf! Lighten the f*&^up else dont play AP You will deal with those players at every level. In every mode. It happens. People still take AP Ranked seriously. You do not. Don't play ranked AP if you're not taking it seriously. You're becoming one of those "feeders, dq-ers, trolls and badmannered" players by doing A-Z in ranked. There are no players in the 3k range that understand basically anything about playing 1 particular hero
You made it sound like we were just mindless idiots :p HEY bro im pro in my heart 1v1 solo mid
I believe in you, my friend. You'll get there. Not through me though, I fucking suck at 1v1 mid.

Skill is relative in dota, 3 years ago my 5 stack would destroy 90% of pubs easily, and I know for a fact 3 of the people had no health bars on and sub 40% lasthit rate in empty lanes. I kinda miss those times...

I agree its easy to miss the days before matchmaking. It is also easy to forget that 4.1 k is 99th percentile which means even if youre only winning half your games you would still beat 98 percent of players if there was no matchmaking. I dont want that.
