Im 4.1k and play solo ranked CM. I have a good time winning and losing. Why would you play ranked ap? Of course thatll be hit or miss. Ive had a few bad captains but overall everyone tries hard and doesnt get pissy when things arr going badly.

hes saying, from what i understand, that the people at 3k's understanding of any one hero is practically negligible because even if they understand it they wouldn't know any of its intricacies in higher level play.

Yes, or else they wouldn't be 3k rated. I'm in 4k currently and iam terrible and my allies are terrible, a lot of players build their heros bad, terrible skill builds and teamfights are pretty much use all the abilities and hope your team wins.

I'm afraid to find my ranking
also I just like all the game modes too much to play ranked only, and unranked is tryhard enough for me anyhow (people are actually using smokes and shit - and this was an All Random game where I played a support breaker)

I need help. The Chinese New Year patch completely broke my Dota. When I start Dota, it starts booting in windowed mode and snaps into fullscreen after a couple seconds, like this. I can't see water at all pic. The loading times are at least 50% longer during both startup and joining a game and I lost like 20 fps, which makes the game pretty much unplayable. Also when I try to play ability draft I always crash during draft or after all heroes are picked, 30% of the time I have to completely reboot the computer to get out of the crash. It's not the new map too, the same thing happens when I play on classic. I'm positive it's the update and not my computer. When the current build was on test client it was as fucked up as this new one, but the regular Dota was working fine for me at the same time. I play on this Mac.
Does anyone know if I can do anything? Some console command, launch options? Or where should I post this to get help.

i edited my post to make it more clear, i'm pretty sure if someone that is 6k rated watches your replay and only focuses on your decision making and item progression he can point out a lot of mistakes.

Like, "understanding a hero" is relative.
Just because you understand that Dragon Knight is a "Pushing Semi-Carry Mid" doesn't mean you understand how to push, semi carry, or mid.
I used to think I was hot shit on Lesh, and that I knew lots about the hero, because I'd win like 70% of my lesh games. Turns out solo-pushing towers with no escape mechanism only works on accounts that are low rated and once u fix the rating your "understanding" of the hero needs some help. Also people who actually understand that you can juke lesh stun with ease makes a difference too.
|
"A lot of mistakes" is diferent from "zero understanding". You can even point out a lot of mistakes watching pro games some times.
It's probally a reaction to the way so many people think they are better than they are, but people take the "everyone is terrible" mentality a bit too far sometimes.
"Understanding" also doesn't mean anything. It's about knowing what you can do with the hero at the game you are playing. Not at the TI finals. Even at the highest level of AP pubs, "understanding", or sucess, may not directly correlate with sucess in a competitive enviroment.

Thats indeed my point. If they play the hero frequently enough. If some 3k player really knew howto play a "role AND a hero" and knows howto "snowball a team with gamesence" he would not be in the 3k range anyway. And he also would achieve the same results with most other similar rolehero's.
Like, i have played more then 150+ crystal maiden/omniknight games and i have a approx 70% winrate. That doesnt say i am a good support and should teach funnik my builds?, it only says i win alot of games with these heros in my AP range. Just because u can cast a combo and win some games with it at mediocre AP mmr, doesnt say anything.

Snowman is right that all the terms are relative. If the bar for good is 6,000 MMR, we are all trash and can never have a good understanding of the game.
Because of that, people should just look to their own improvement, rather then compairing themselves to pros. There is a lot of dota to learn and there is no "best way" to learn for everyone.

I totally disagree. I'm about 3800 solo rating, I am by no means good at this game, but to go so far as to say that I don't have a deeper understanding of Dota beyond my skill level is absurd(again, I'm not saying I understand this game through and through, but bear with me here). Dota isn't a game that can be so easily skill-bracketed like this, and I honestly think the skill rating is totally dumb in this game. It's a 10 man game, with 5 guys one each team having to achieve a level of co-operation that is rarely found in any videogame. Sure, you can get a decent idea of the level a player is at, but I don't think you can make such broad assumptions based on something so volatile as MMR in this game.
I just think that in a team game like this, it is incredibly inappropriate to make these kinds of generalizations. If I were to play solo queue for 50 games, at the rate I'm going I'd probably go up at least 500 MMR. But I don't play solo ranked much because I prefer playing with friends who are lower ranked than I am. I'm sure there are plenty of people in the same boat.
Having that been said, we're probably in the minority... I guess I'm just annoyed by this ignorant generalization and I don't get why it's okay to do this kinda shit.

Thats why you have a party rating and a solo rating though. So basically either play solo games and prove it or else you are overestimating yourself the same way every other person in dota does "oh its my friends who lose me games" as if you aren't also against dumpsters.

i personaly think its not a practical mmr system for this game and therefore flawed but thats another discussion for another day. But i also think that someone with 3k mmr in the current system doesnt have proskills or knowledge on/about any hero or even better any role. If he would, he would not have 3k mmr, the system isnt that flawed.
