why nerf taking so long (a real nerf) I don't think that Earth Shaker needs a nerf, midshaker maxing enchant totem is best indeed, but it doesn't have to get nerfed by any means!!
Not sure if...

So a 5600 solo MMR guy from playdota is playing on a 3k MMR account to prove that MMR hell doesn't exist and that he wil get back to 5k+ soon. What do you think the majority of reddit comments are? "Well, he could never do it on a support, so it doesn't matter."
People are in so much fucking denial about their own skill, jesus it's making me feel sad for them.

Hmm. Interesting. I wonder how long it's going to take. Also I do suspect people are correct about support thing. A good support is amazing, but it does absolutely nothing if the rest of the team doesnt take advantage of it. I changed to mid only after getting tired of it and saw a radical increase in both mmr and winnings.

or maybe support your support play was worse than your mid ?

Absolutely possible. But I still think you simply have much more impact on the game as a mid player. Winning or losing your lane, and how well you gank, directly impacts the rest of the game. As a support you can try ganking, you can ward and buy other useful supporting items, but for the most part its up to the rest of the team to do the direct impact. You cant really do anything alone.

Yeah but as a pro support in a low level game you can easily put a shit-ton of pressure on the other lanes and easily win them for your team. Then you use that advantage to dominate the midgame, which you then turn into a win.
Not saying it would happen all the time, but definitely enough that eventually you will get out of 'ELO hell'

The notion that team compositions in these kinds of games (around 3k mmr pubs) should be the same as in pro matches is completely false on it's own. There's so much more important stuff people in that mmr should worry about than a proper team composition. "A support" doesn't really exist at that level, any hero can comfortably play any role.
not even talking about players who have 3k MMR and call themselves a "support player." That's just completely backwards.

A support can definitely carry the game in dota. You can basically win 2 lanes for your teammates if you know what you are doing and later on you can take the initiative with smokes, warding, dewarding, etc. so people will actually listen and follow you.
I'd say it's harder to carry the game as an offlaner most of the times than as a support, well for me at least.

mid players feed like crazy if you gank mid as support mid snowballs into ez win
|
It depends a lot on what hero you are supporting as. KotL for example has really good potential to carry trench games, as he can win a lot of games against people that don't avoid illuminate, can hold 5 man pushes by himself, can screw over most pubstompers with mana leak AND has farm tool potent enough to go carry if need be. GL doing any of that with a ganking support

That really depends on the mentality when playing "support" really. Either way you should buy support items and not take farm (unless there's nobody else to take it), but pubs are not the place for the kind of support that sticks around in the lane, keeps wards on cooldown no matter what and passively babysits the carry to secure him freefarm, only to see him yolo and feed in the first few fights.
With a good support pick you can help at least two (if not all) of your lanes dominate. A higher skilled player playing in a lower skill bracket would be able to dominate just as easily playing a Nyx or Windrunner. That's not even considering the fact you can even "support" with something like Earth Spirit or Mirana and farm kills without giving two shits that you're on an item and level handicap for the first half of the game.

Be honest, how many early game smokes do you buy every game? Like the other people said, supporting isn't just about buying wards and helping your carry secure some last hits in the laning stage. It's about applying early pressure. It isn't easy either...so far, I only consistently smoke gank and go super active on Chen because it is the only hero I'm comfortable to do that with.
But I'm not going to AFK lane with some random carry as Crystal Maiden, then, if we lose the game, say that I couldn't have done anything more to affect the game's outcome when I didn't try to roam or roam more effectively and/or more often.

It's an interesting experiment. But I think the "ELO hell" exists in a very local sort of way. Sometimes you are just stuck at a MMR that slightly underestimates you, and you get put, let's say, in a 3k3 MMR game but you are actually 3k5 but to win it alone you'd need 4k, (numers completely arbitrary). So yeah, he's going to stomp 3k, of course he will. People in "ELO hell" (god I hate that name) don't complain they are pros put with noobs, they complain they are decent players put with complete morons, against bad to okay players. Though at 3k5 MMR (dunno how big the difference is from 3k) I really have decent games, with the occasional moron, but overall people can play.
|
Regardless, I think he'd do better to random or whatever instead of grinding 50 games as Furion/SF/storm.
I'm sure at 5k vs. 3k he could do it with anything, and it would be a lot more convincing if he used heroes other than the classic pubstompers.

I don't see the problem. You play whatever you want in a dota game. Nobody is preventing the people who preach about ELO hell from playing these kinds of heroes.
