That's why I always said that China progamers salary is not low at all. They are always higher than average salary man. The problem why progamers in China said they don't make enough money because compared to esports side business, such as casting, selling merchandises, they don't make as much.

I remember someone saying that Yaphets was making more money with the youtube video ( I don't know how chinese youtube is called ) than most of the progamers currently playing.

Side businesses are easier to make money, you have more freedom. Basically best of both world. The tradeoff is you have to be already famous to make money out of it, aka you have to be a famous progamer or some sort first. An average guy cannot do what Yaphets in Dota, Sky in WC3, Tabe in LoL do selling the same stuffs.

I don't know what it can get you in china, but it isn't a lot in the US for anyone who wants to do more than rent an appartment and live off Raman. They are a new team and young guys, but as someone with a mortgage, that is shitty pay. It's fine short term, but if in the long term players will move without more pay. Difference is, they aren't paying for their accommodations nor food. I bet even you would be fine with 1000 USD a month if your mortgage or rent would be paid for you, not to mention your other normal day expenses.
I'm currently applying for 400 pound a month jobs with accomodation + food which is definitely much less than 1k USD a month

Wow the pound is at like 1.6 USD I thought it was more than that.

how is the quality of life for someone on 6k RMB/mo though? compared to say a western country

Still, it does limit them and their lifestyle. They can't live with their significant other while under this contract, since there housingpary of it.
As I said, it's good for young players, but long term it means that May aspects of life and family are not comparable with being a pro gamer and that limits the scene.

For something like shanghai, the purchasing power for everything besides food and rent is probably comparable to west (food and rent are significantly cheaper), but the overall environment and public health standards are a bit worse

out of curiosity if you don't mind me asking, whats the job you are applying to? I wonder if you have these occasional 'bonuses' if you do well, like progamers have.

general chalet hosting jobs in the alps.
+ Show Spoiler +the only possible bonus is one for reaching the end of the season (something like lasting 5 months), where ive heard you can get a 1k bonus, however ive also heard companies will try and fire you for the smallest reason before reaching that point. just like a progamer's job has perks mine would come with perks too (like ski pass and rental) but even with those perks it would still be around $1k a month.
lowest paid jobs are around 400 quid a month, highest end and you can earn around 900-1000 pounds a month (these require years of chef's experience/chalet hosting experience plus qualifications)

i think if they are earning as well as they are in china they arent doing badly at all
edit: oh ye, they're the chance of tips, but because im working in lower end companies these won't amount to much beyond some extra drinking money.

I don't see the issue with the pay at all... In fact I think it's fair.
This is $1000 CAD/USD a month for someone that has living expenses paid for... Technically this is money you don't HAVE TO spend every month to survive...
|
$1k/m is more then my gf made when she rented and worked at a pizza joint. seems like a fair salary to me, definitely not anywhere near luxurious but its certainly enough to prevent starving or freezing to death.
Then again im from Detroit and real estate is super fucking cheap here. She was in a house with 3 other people for just like $200 a month

kupo have u been to china even. rent and food in china is not cheap at all. a small shitty room goes for 700rmb and that shits smaller than a dorm room and not even close to centre of beijing. how do i know? my grand aunt owns like 30 of those rooms and rents them to out of town workers.
the standard of living in north american for a minimum wage earner is much much higher than the standard of living of an average chinese earning 5krmb/month. i cant even imagine living off 5k rmb/month cuz i spend 400rmb for lunch when i go for visit...
living in china sucks if you are poor, it is glorious if you are rich. however the pollution there is pretty..... so i choose to live in canada. i do miss the food though.
|
what kind of room are you getting for 100 CAD? you can easily spend 15-20 rmb for a meal in shanghai/beijing and be full, the fact that you CAN spend 1k+ rmb is irrelevant

That's why I always cringe when I hear people struggling whether they should go progaming or continue the education to get a deskjob in the future. That's not how they do in China. When Chinese progamers retire, they rarely go back to school and find a deskjob working from 9 to 5. They make enough money to open their own business, whether it's esport related or just a small shop somewhere around the city. Even in western world, you don't see popstar or sports professionals go back to school and find deskjob after retirement.
If you live in a teamhouse for 5,6 years of your gaming career, you're gonna save a HUGE amount of money. Basically if you don't live like a rockstar and go party all the time, you'll save quite a good amount of money in the end of your career.

If you live in an apartment complex or some sort, try go out and ask your landlord. Chances are they are not real landlords, they get paid under $1k/month+accommodation to take care of the property.
A lot of people are too fixated on the mindset of 9to5 jobs, in the real world that not always happens. People accept the cheap pay jobs like that because it creates opportunities for them to pursue other interests.

On one hand they have the highest percentage of youth millionaire in the world (20-40 year old millionaires), on the other hand, in rural areas the ANNUAL income of a person is 4k RMB.
But yeah, depends on how you say about quality of life. A condom costs 1 RMB, a pair of shoes like this + Show Spoiler + is about 50 RMB.
