I guess it's only strange having come from the "Mid or feed" / "ADC BOT" instalocks that happen in other games.
I dunno, I generally get a solid variety. People will often lock in core heroes early, but I see lots of people who are perfectly happy with any role (though not any hero).
Not sure it was impressive because iceiceice is good, or the other players are bad, but impressive nonetheless.
i think its part of both. iceiceice is very good and other players are very bad. that qop in and furion in particular. even after 10mins the qop still does minimum range blinks like a boss.

Sun Strike is one hell of a drug.
Man, Invoker really DOES need to re-enter the meta. He has no inherently toxic elements to him, and just provides pure, fun teamfight and ganking ability.

The only thing I fear is that IF continues trying to buff him in ways that clearly stops him from playing (1v1 prowess mid, notably his base damage).
Sorry, IF, but buffing tornado damage isn't going to fix him.

I think he was trying to make Quas Wex more popular. Unfortunately, he seems to be missing the core reason people don't go Quas Wex on him: Exort is inherently the strongest aspect, and will remain that way unless all the Exort spells are nerfed into the ground. Damage and manapool are good on a combat-caster hero...

Exort is not "inherently" the strongest aspect.
It's just that 6.74 systematically nerfed Quas-Wex while systematically buffing Exort-based forms:
- Chaos Meteor damage increased from 80+Exort*30 to 80+Exort*35 - Chaos Meteor land time decreased from 1.5 to 1.3 - EMP can no longer hit Invulnerable/Tornadoed units - EMP cooldown increased from 25 to 30 seconds - Sun Strike damage type changed from Magical to Pure - Sun Strike now reveals the area it will hit before the damage impact - Tornado cooldown increased from 25 to 30 seconds - Tornado Damage decreased from 77.5+(Wex+Quas)*23 to 70+(Wex+Quas)*20
Quas-Wex was virtually standard pre-6.74, and any Exort-based build was very much the exception.
I mean if he just buffed his base damage you would see more people going Q/W since they don't need exort to contest lasthits
Note: Not saying IF should buff base damage. Just saying that the base damage nerf was another push towards Exort-Based builds. There were a LOT of factors pushing exort builds (still are). Not that I mind, I like exort based builds. However, it feels like they are ruining his viability.

It IS inherently the strongest, because intelligence is both his primary stat and what he relies on to cast his spells. If Exort builds are underused, it's because Exort spells are weaker than Quas and Wex spells.
One thing that I think is worth pointing out is that there are factors that work against Invoker more than just his own balance. He doesn't fit the way the game is played right now. He is very much a dedicated teamfight hero, and was strong in 6.74 because that was a version that, at least at the time, people thought was a dedicated AoE teamfight version (evidenced by the high priority on Naga/Tide/DS other AoE teamfighting heroes). 6.75 was honestly not good for him with the various face-rush strategies that emerged, and even this version is not so great given that there are many up-front teamfighters who are not that "good" in this version, as it favors map control heroes like Wisp, Bat, and Furion.
Also, OD vs Invoker at a high level is a virtually unplayable lane.

That's simply not true.
It's very frequently the case that HP and movement speed are more "valuable" stats for an intelligence-based caster than raw mana.

What on EARTH does that have to do with ANYTHING? Its all a numbers game... Raising your main-stat only helps you right click, which isn't "inherently" the strongest. It is a strong option, but there's nothing making it "inherently the strongest". The abilities mana-costs can be balanced around the int-gain inherent in casting them.
What you mean is that exort has some inherent benefits. None of which make it definitively "the strongest". You may argue that you prefer its inherent benefits over those of his other abilities (you'd be correct) but the abilities have a lot of "non-inherent" (derp) usefulness that completely overshadows the stat-gain.
