Like literally everyone has years of experience in dota1, others in HoN and even those played lots of dota before. Bulldog started in Dota 2 I believe. he started competitive in dota 2, he played wc3 dota without a doubt. this points to that being true. Our beloved Liquipedia has no real information on the subject, sadly.

you guys are funny... dota1 and dota2 is pretty much the same game. The experience does transfer and the skill cap does raise over time. Defining 'high level' meaning belong near the skill cap. With that, it would almost impossible for anyone who just play this game for ~2 years to be as good as.... Loda who play the game for almost a decade.

BS in the 1 slot is better than BS in the mid. Bloodrage dispel isn't insignficant either.

How do you people build a sniper? I usually like going headshot/shrapnel/headshot/shrapnel/shrapnel/ult/shrapnel/max take aim/max shrapnel/take ult when possible. As for items I like going for a fast aquila, then mana boots, shadowblade, orchid. Magic wand somewhere in there, too.
I really think caster sniper is the way to go on that hero. I like how easily you cant take towers early with shrapnel and I find that Sniper is one of the heroes that can use mana regen the most. His ultimate has such a low cooldown and high manacost that you really can't have enough mana regen on him. And if you have a lot of mana regen it's really hard for the enemies to fight you... Whenever you see a hero, just ult him, if you ult the same hero twice, he's almost dead and can't possibly participate in a teamfight, until he heals up. It's almost as annoying as kotl's illuminate when trying to push highground against. When you go for a rightclicking sniper, I feel like you just can't do this, because you're constantly out of mana.
Btw, pretty sure Era never played WC3 DotA. He played a lot of HoN tho, ofc.

It's just not as fun as it used to be, and the goal of being a progamer in college just doesn't seem attainable in that game. So I play leagues (I know I'm sorry) because all my friends do, so I have Moba xp. and I have about 3 games of DOTA2 played. I watched the finals of Ti3 and was shocked at how fun it was. So my honest question is if I'm looking to take Dota2 serious, but have a lot to learn where do I even start. I've read some of the beginning tutorials and stuff but it is just such a daunting task starting a whole new game and learning a new meta and what not. anyone with any tips or really anything just let me know! thanks! Becoming a pro in Dota takes years of work. I'm serious. The only real exception would be if you came from a HoN background which it sounds like you don't. The game requires an insane amount of fundamental knowledge and understanding. There's less mechanical skill requirements than Starcraft has but strategic knowledge is a requirement. You really need to know just about every skill in the game inside out, its interactions with other skills, its damage and cost and effects at every rank, what rank its likely to be at given a certain point in the game or a certain playstyle, and you need to make that calculation in a split second. You need to have a deep and fundamental knowledge of what your enemies are likely to be doing with very few hints and you need to know why they're doing what they're doing and what that could possibly mean about the Bane who may or may not be smoked and waiting to pull off a counter-gank. You need to be able to completely get into your enemy's head. There's no good way to practice that besides playing hundreds of games. There's no chance you'll be considered for a decent team without your strategic and gameplay knowledge being fairly high, and you need strong mechanical skill and decision-making ability as well, although being able to just play the game isn't all that hard. You don't learn the meta, you learn the game. The meta is loose. There are a couple heroes at any given time that are too strong (but can be countered) and besides those heroes and the heroes that are far too weak or situational, you can pick pretty much whatever you want. There's a strategy for just about every hero. that is bullshit, you dont need YEARS to become a pro at anything (if you have a background in something similar and lol is very similar), a year or 2 max or complete dedication is enough to get to a high enough level to play for a professional team
I don't think there's a single player in the pro scene that hasn't played dota 1, hon, dota 2 for at least 4+ years (both pubbing and competitively).

I think there is something to be said about dota requiring experience. Almost everything in this game point to that the longer you play this game, the better you play it (to a point, and then other factors come in).

An Anti-mage that cant move is a sad anti-mage. But it was all theory crafting, so it could be terrible.
Although I do want to see someone hit NP with rupture right when he teleports.

Well yeah, there's a lot of things which no one would really calculate but a long time player would have the experience to know.
Like you see Mushi doing these crazy dives he escapes with 1 auto-attack left until he dies. He's not sitting there counting the damage of 3-4 spells + auto-attacks before he goes in, you just get that feeling of how much things will hurt when you've played a lot.

ixmike was fiending sniper games in IXDL on stream last night. His build was headshot/shrap/shrap/take aim/shrap/ult/shrap into take-aim max into headshot max.
so 3/1/1/1 @ 6, 4/1/4/2 @ 11.
He was mid sniper with bottle rush into treads/shadowblade/mkb in that order.

Max shrapnel first because it's really good for fighting and taking towers early. Take only 1 point of take aim and headshot during the laning phase ( take aim is super overrated during the first 10/15 minutes of the game ). Max take aim second and headshot at last. The item build depends on the game but I personally like Eul's sceptre, BoTs, Yasha and then some damage item like crit or mkb.

Just think of the number of times he tried that and failed in the process of learning exactly when to jump out. And learning it so well he just does it by instinct.

Why do you get an early take aim, instead of second level in headshot? Level 1 headshot is just 15 damage, level 2 is 40. That's a huge difference. I find it more important than the extra range in most cases, you still have 550 range, which is not awful, you won't really get bullied by 600 range enemies, I don't think.
