Personally for some reason I prefer to play than watch, I used to watch some streams when I was just starting out. But it's always pub matches, and pro's messing around when I tune in, so I lost the interest. I love watching first person camera of some players in the tournament though.

Just a different culture. LOL was popularized as streaming hit its peak growth, so the two fed off of each other. DotA was popular with the rise of youtube, so we had tons of youtube dota videos. Dota 2 showed up out of beta after the streaming peak so we don't enjoy the same culture. There are tons of people who watch lol who don't play much, dota has less of those people.

Dota streamers don't tend to sell entertainment though. The streaming is just there because they cant. Only a few actually do this and they get pretty high numbers. Sing comes to mind.

Dendi doesn't even have to try to get high numbers.
Then again, he's probably also the player in the western community with the most fans.
Edit: Look at people like wagamama and merlini, they add lots of benefits for watching and generally try to get more people to watch, but they still don't reach as high numbers as players that just have a big fan-base.

Every Dota 2 player I have watched has been about as interesting as watching grass grow. They don’t put much effort into entertaining their audience or making the game enjoyable to watch. That is fine, because some people are just their for the gameplay, but it does hurt their numbers if someone or something more entertaining is on. In contrast, if you look at Demuslim, who has some of the highest stream numbers for an SC2 player, he is constantly interacting with his audience, discussing the game and making it entertaining.
It has less to do with Dota 2 and more to do with the people broadcasting it.

Publics will be 1000000x less competitive than LoL publics (herr casual game herr) until they introduce something to play for (ladder/rating.)

I turned switched if off when it started to fuck up my self casting of spells. It only took me boosting the speed of a single ranged creep as Darkseer to realize it might not be the best way to cast spells.

I've wanted to, especially after playing LoL for a bit I kinda missed it, it made a huge difference. But I'm kinda scared about hitting keys by mistake(which I do often)....will try it out though, how di I enable it? is it in the options?
Hmm..is it quick cast? I cant bind it to the same keys as qwert..too lazy to think of new keys, maybe this is why I didnt think about using it. :p

Generally even LoL pros say don't smart cast skill shots. So yea I don't see much benefit from it in Dota even though there are less skillshots there are also less spammy abilities.

The pros and cons of it are so small that it comes down to what you're used to. Traditional players won't care, but I have come across LoL players who tried Dota and gave it up quickly simply for the lack of quick/smart casting.

I never tried smartcasting, but I'm finding it hard to believe I could cast abilities as "smartly" with it. I think I'd miss everything ever, especially double-tap stuff.

You have to be really aware of your curser if you smart cast and want to self cast instead. If it is over anything that is a valid target, you will just try to cast the ability on that target, rather than yourself. For heroes like Darkseer, it can be super annoying.
