Wat.

I dislike LoL, but to say they don't have personalities as big as Dendi is downright wrong.

The most popular LoL streamers pull 2 to 5 times the amount of viewers Dendi can hit as his peak.

i have yet to see a lol streamer with over 30-33k ever. so they can't even pull 2x dendi.

dota 2 post release is getting really good stream numbers and thats a positive. half of the total people watching lol right now are watching dota 2, and with how massive a stream culture lol has thats very exciting to see the numbers reflected for dota 2.

He technically said they can't reach 2x Dendi, but also that they never get over 30k. Or that he just haven't seen it because he doesn't watch it, which would be incredibly silly.

Didn't a LoL streamer reach a ridiculous number once because he was taking part of a contest or something?

I have seen Hotshotgg with more than 40k I think around 45k. He streamed just for like 2houres though. Chilled guy, the whole chat was begging him to play adds and become a millionare, was hillarious.

I watch a couple of LoL streamers (basically just phantoml0rd because of one time I watched him while he was in Korea and he played every game super aggressively, it was hilarious) every so often (ie. when there's no events on/nobody streaming i like on dota2) and the top LoL stream's are commonly above 20k (closer to 30). I've even seen a couple who average about 2-3k pulling over 20k at some points. That, at least, is something you won't see with dota (for now).

i hope it does not come to that honestly. (Western) competitive lol has a huge problem with player streams because it makes players interesting to teams regardless of their level of play as long as they have a minimum of talent. as long as they can attract viewers and show their team name and sponsors to a couple of thousand viewers it doesnt matter if they are 1st or 10th in a given competition. stronger players have a difficult situation to get the support they need to fully develope their potential.

Isn't that the same reason sc2 teams are adding relatively low skilled girls to their rosters? They aren't going to win anything or see any playtime in clanwars. They're just there to look pretty and attract viewers.

no hate to jd/tobi etc (tobi is a still blast to watch due to his orgasmic shouting at times) but i am so damn glad that BTS came into the scene and expanding/setting up them properly to cover many tournaments. Rarely watch tobi nowadays though they are still suffering of no having a stable co-caster last time i tuned in.

mTw was a pretty decent team in its time, but he still had time to cast.

So I just pubbed all night after getting a compendium.

Dota is so awesome. I had known of it before TL picked it up but the pick up gave me the push to play this awesome, awesome game. I love winning, i enjoy a losing game since earthshaker can rack up kills as defense, its all good.

Just want to share some good feelings to dota 2 general as i go to sleep. Cheers!

i think the time has changed a bit anyway. more players commit more time to practicing/scrimming plus playing one official match each day. the other casting studios have a similar problem with less and less pro players casting games.
i hope we will see "retired" or currently inactive pros like merlini, mini, wagamama, maelk more often in the future.

mTw was basically good only during the time when Synd didn't cast. They were a z-tier team but then he stopped streaming, he stopped casting. And then 2-3 weeks later they started putting in good results.

Well player streams aren't really eSports. They're like a professional athlete doing a reality show. It'll bring them some money, it might bring them some more popularity. But in terms of 'the growth of the scene', player streams aren't as big of a deal as people make them out to be sometimes. It's much more important that tournaments get good numbers. (of course there's some relation where players earn their popularity through streams like SingSing which brings it into tournaments)

And if your name isn't Riot, the place where you could probably get the most from your investment into eSports is Dota. Because people can talk LoL numbers all day long, but I can't go run a LoL tournament that won't get overshadowed by a player stream from some washed up American player. It would just cost far too much, and the return wouldn't be there.

~

Like lets do some theorycrafting here. How much would it cost to get 50k viewers in X game for a weekend tournament?

Dota: You can do it online. for a weekend tournament 5-10k would give you all the teams that you want. Add another 1-2k for production/promotion/casters.

StarCraft: No one watches online tournaments. You have to do a Lan. You have to get in some koreans and some popular westerners because SC never gets good numbers without both combined. You have to operate under the WCS restrictions/schedule. You have to get in casters who I'm assuming are much more expensive than Dota casters.

LoL: I don't watch it so I don't really know, but I'm going to assume you'd have to at least get some big names to get 50k. Which with the LCS is very difficult.
Once you Goblak...

Google translate gave me an idea for what that could mean. I don't think it's appropriate to post it on TL though, you might want to check by yourself.
