Here's the major problem with gamers nowadays. They want to have some meta progression on top of the game. Having played 4 years on b.net and garena just for fun, i have only pity for people that can't enjoy the game coz they don't see "progress"

So what's the point of having it hidden? did you live under a rock? no drawback of public ratings? there is a reason the popular games (sc2 / lol) use a rating system that try to hide how godawful you truly are as good as they can. How about ability of choosing if it's public or not and at least visible to you so YOU would know? BAM, how sick would that be? Just solved all your fucking problems with that 1 sentence. doesnt matter. everyone who hasnt got a public rating wont be taken serious and will be flamed / looked down upon. you could say "how about you dont care if your rating is bad". this would be the same as a "not public rating". league of legends had an invisible rating when you were below a certain treshhold (lower 50%). so if you didnt have a rating for whatever reason, people assumed you were terrible. So what's the difference assuming someone's terrible when there is a league and there isn't a league? And if both people are LITERALLY in the same league, how could one criticize their league if they are in the same fucking spot? I don't get your point Oh, I can solve that one. 1. There is a threshold between leagues. "I'm high caesium league, your low caesium league" 2. One has changed leagues once. "I may be crappium league like you, but 2 months ago I was fantastium league" 3. Personal delusion. "I see all these idiots in dirt league and I clearly belong into the better royal league. I just have bad luck with the system"
1. I already suggested having the option to hide your league. 2. Does it really matter what were you? You're playing with people in your league/mmr brackets. 3. So we now care about delusional people? And plus that notion already exists between a lot of players. There is no league and you clearly see people talking shit anyway regarding how are they better. In fact, if there were leagues you would fix their delusional bullshit by having an obvious ranking where the person is in. You couldn't say I belong in gm if you were in gold, nobody sane with any amount of common sense would do that. Leagues would make those people shut the fuck up.

It is interesting how people get their motivation. I derive a lot of my motivation from a desire to improve, but i'v never felt that a public ranking system would help me achieve that. It would maybe give me a rough indication of where I am, but its not like its an actual tool to help me improve.

Why would leagues be a problem? Dotabuff is third party, you aren't going to look up your opponents/teammates to insult them during game and there's no interaction out of game, what a stupid observation The lack of sense of accomplishment is destroying my satisfaction with the game, pretty sure I am not the only one. I seriously cannot understand the pleasure of grinding games out and not seeing you reach any sort of ''hights'' . Like if you could have some sort of league rankings( let them have an option to show publicly or not ), you grind out games and you reach your goal, like a master's league. You can talk with your friends and shit, discuss how your grinding paid off and you know that for a fact you're the top 1% or whatever. I really doubt people would have a fit of you having your league hidden, it would be painfully obvious that you got matched with players around your skill level from your league, doesn't matter if they have it hidden or not. Meanwhile you could have people see them progress through steps.
Anyone with any ounce of legitimate skill don't delude themselves into thinking they're better than they're really are. Anyone with any ounce of motivation don't need an arbitrary system of statistics to improve. If you don't know if you are improving or not, then you don't know diddly squat in the first place and an in-game system isn't going to change that. If anything, the in-game is only going to mislead people who don't know any better into thinking that they do.
Sense of accomplishment? Get into an in-house league? Get a team? Go deep in some tournaments?

Problem is that rating in this game is meaningless. The lower 50% of the players are all horribly, invariably bad, and you couldn't discern a 50% from a 20%. The 50% to 90% is basically all the players that know about the game or have played it a fair share, but lacks a lot of mechanics and the minimal necessary awareness to avoid being awful. The 90 to 99% is all the players who have played this for years but lack talent, so they remain godawful . The 99.0 to 99.9% is the decent players that can play in first pages, but still play pretty badly and often have bad games. The 0.1% top percent is so consistently better than the rest that is discouraging, and yet they are a still a lot of average players there. But being in the 0.1% is like what a top 50% is to a top 80% or so. Skill become apparent only at the very upper tiers of play. Playing against semi-pros or pubstars in lane when you usually queue around page 10+ or so give you a clear impression of how vastly different are those tiers of play, even if separated by less than 1% of the playerbase (0-10-7 void page 1, only by G.ZZZ)
Frankly speaking, no one but the top 1% should be even rated, the rest is meaningless. At the lower echelon of play, having MMR visible would give terrible people reason to blame others when they're beyond terrible themselves. Those game are already toxic enough, if you don't understand this game then you shouldn't have the chance to judge others for it, especially if you play together (being not an impartial observer and all that). IF we'll get a rating it will be like this: - divided in colors for the lower 90, no personal rating but only color, and color is determined by the match, not by single players. So you'd know for example that you play "predominantly" in teal matches, but sometimes play in blue and sometimes in violet. For others only the last week or months would be visible to check which color you are, you would have the complete history. I'd think a nice division would be blue>teal>violet>yellow>orange (like sents colors). Same for top 10% but divided in real tier bronze4%, silver 3%, gold 2%, diamond 1%. Then a public top 100 of players, maybe divided for heroes or realms.

Are you high? You're talking about 1vs1 games with a clear defined ELO, please go take a walk and relax. Team games are unrankable in terms of personal skills, and giving numbers to players just end in endless bitching , in the real world (see the concept of valuing soccer players, it's just endless retarded arguments with no clear substance) and in the online gaming world too.
And yes he's right that the desire to be "recognized" while playing a game is retarded, either you are a pro player that make money, else you are playing a game you just sucks at.
