how do people here on TL build razor?
I try to build him with cheap, cost-effective early items (I often go offlane with him) like tranquils/phase, aquila, drums, wand, etc. I'll often get an orb of venom too just to add a small amount of slow, and later build into skadi lategame. After drums I normally build a yasha.
Basically my idea is that razor is best when chasing and sticking around a lot, so you want to prolong fights and give yourself enough move speed/slow effects to keep static link up. At the same time I feel like you want to be focused, so building somewhat tanky items is useful too.

Meka is quite a powerful item on him, if you have good farm then a 9-11 min Meka can be gamebreaking. He is also quite the strong trilaner in my experience.

Razor is a little bit out of meta(according to picks) type of carry thanks to the strange way of dealing damage. As you know he needs to stay and survive during fights rather than burst down quickly. Any item gives you extra seconds to survive also adds damage to you up to 224. Which is game breaking in early-mid game without any damage items.
I'd suggest you to aim boots(phase or pt better), mek and casual vitality booster maybe turn into a heart later on. You can mix a yasha(if farm is good) in between these. Your third skill gives you speed and with proper early boots most of the time you are faster than your opponents. This is why S&Y is relatively good on him. You should add up major damage items after 30 min i think. There is no need for tranq(give you nothing basically rather than ms), aquilla (you need to survive not damage). Drums are ok but not as much efficient as before.
You build tank items not for being focused rather to accumulate enough damage to 3-4 shot everyone. You can apply above for viper as well

Razor is an anti-carry, his main focus is to make the enemy carry useless (damage into the negative) for 10-16 seconds. so you need something that will make your static link not broken during the whole 8 seconds duration.
Lothar could be a good pick up if there are no immediate detection, they will still know where you are but they cant do anything about it.
you also want item that make you tankier to stay in the fight longer, so stuff like BKB,Mek,Heart,AC will be good

I feel Viper have the opposite role, you want to get a lot of damage item to kill people as fast as possible with his nethertoxin. Your standard glass cannon build with Buriza+Lothar, Orchird also for the mana regen and active. Agh is also good for long range Ultimate initiation.

If you don't build a Rod of Aui on Razor you're doing it wrong.

Razor lanes well against syllabear. He might get picked soon with all these bear pickers.

No than you are doing the best thing you could possibly do

Rod of atos is amazing, if only because they never ever see it coming.

1-4-4 build. Ulti afterwards. Used to go tranquils/drums/aquila/wand/sny/skadi. Will probably go linkens builds after tranquil boots nerf.

There is no reason to only get 1 level of Plasmafield, its damage scales very well and hits many targets. Leveling Unstable Current over Plasmafield may be viable against a team which has an insane amount of single target spells ( And they miraculously decide to cast them all on the Razor who is obviously maxing Unstable Current)

Which sort of makes a strange DotA 2 parity issue if Icefrog decides to do something about it.
That said, I don't think there needs to be anything done about it.
I hope they don't do anything about it because it would break the midas swapping on LD for sure.
Item swapping in dota really isn't very easy and requires a lot of clicks and some risk so I don't think that it should be disallowed in this way.
If they had some hotkey that when you select a unit you can press a key then press an item, then press another unit and it will swap the items in those spaces then that would be pretty sick. It would make bottle crowing just plain stupid too.

Why wouldnt item swapping be very easy ? Its two clicks

I hate no plasma razor so much, ya go give up the nuke that is strong in early game, almost like those no Toss BH. I think mek is overkill on the hero, just urn+bracer/drum/vit booster or if you wanted to go on the Pipe route, other items like sny, deso, lothar, agha and the end game cores like heart, bfly etc.
Fun build including agha+refresh, and my favourite old razor build radi+lifesteal on the current razor rofl or just go maelstrom/mjonir for lightning everywhere.

It's really easy, it's just clumsy because of the way item slots work and dragging and dropping items when creeps and heroes and roshan and stuff are in the way.

Trying to complete my Armlet / AC on LD is one of the most painful things in the game.
I fucking hate it.

There are a lot of ways to play Viper. The tanky/defensive item route of development has just as much merit as the Lothar+Orchid solo-kill damage route.
Essentially, the Drums->Heart defensive item route of development for Viper is based around two things: - Corrosive Skin is arguably Viper's most powerful skill - With multiple reliable slows and how Nethertoxin works, Viper will fundamentally have damage at the end of a fight due to everyone being low--and the priority is to be able to disengage/re-engage and be in the fight when you want.
I don't agree that it's the same mindset as Razor buying defensive items though. Razor buys defensive items because he wants to stay in the thick of a fight and keep Static Link on the enemy carry for as long as possible. Viper buys defensive items because he wants to be able to disengage/re-engage fights freely while making use of Urn charges and Heart regen to refill before engaging.

If you want to have a lot of fun and don't necessarily need to carry with right clicks, go Atos, Aghs, Refresher. You will be the most glorious pile of laser beams every refresher cooldown. Also pretty fun to get a Halberd with this build if you don't need a BKB first. Two disarms plus two static links is pretty hilarious, let there be no right click damage.
