IRC chatter should remain in IRC - http://webchat.quakenet.org/?channels=tl.dota2

Posts that relate to topics with their own thread, such as in News, Tournaments or Strategy should go in those threads.

I think something that is really going to catch on as long as Syllabear stays in the Meta is dissassembly of tranquil boots into brown bear after heal activation. To start the discussion about this tactic I made a quick youtube guide about all the ins and outs of tranquils as they apply to Lone Druid.

huh
solo killing is like the only thing slark can do properly with items
what exactly does he do in a 5v5 when the other team is prepared

There is a middle ground between 1v1 and 5v5. its called, most of the game.

I've done this myself, and I'm surprised; I haven't seen any pros do it yet. Or, maybe they are doing it and the casters haven't noticed.

My guess though, is that Icefrog will make it so that tranquils cannot be disassembled during the heal process (or maybe disassembling will remove the heal buff). I'm not aware if you can disassemble them while they are broken, but if they can be disassembled when broken that might change too.

Disassembling the tranquils and making treads/BoTs/phase on main bear and using the RoP/RoR for vlads is pretty nice. Vlads is such a good item on sylla.

It's actually only possible in DotA 2, because items on CD aren't droppable in DotA 1, and therefore can't be disassembled.

Which sort of makes a strange DotA 2 parity issue if Icefrog decides to do something about it.

That said, I don't think there needs to be anything done about it.

Items on cooldown really shouldn't dissamble, it seems like an oversight on Valves part.

If you're going to change something, it should be that you have to disassemble in base (in DotA 1 you needed to use the Circle of Power to disassemble items). Making it so you can't disassemble items on CD raises questions of whether items should be droppable/sellable on CD (since those are similar DotA 1 parity issues).

EDIT: There's also the fact that the courier can disassemble it, forgot about that. Presumably this was changed to disassemble anywhere to remove the hassle of having a courier there to do it for you. Meh.

You don't build MoM on Slark... T_T and Slark is a godly solo killer/roamer and a ganker. Haven't lost a single game in 5 games today with him, damn, so manly.

So I noticed something:

/r/dota2 73,000 subscribers
/r/starcraft 140,000 subsribers
/r/leagueoflegends 250,000 subscribers

At 10am GMT:

/r/dota2 1,200 people online
/r/starcraft 1,500 people online
/r/leagueoflegends 5,500 people online

Starcraft has twice the subscriber count of dota 2, but only 300 more people are online at this time. LoL scales more reasonably with about 3.5 times the user base and 4.5 times the people online.

So assuming reddit is not an unreasonable representation of community size, this means that a large portion of /r/starcraft subscribers are NA, relative to dota 2 and LoL at least.

Pretty informal analysis, but the conclusion is ironic.

Edit: Should probably replace 'community' with 'English speaking community' since reddit itself is such a site.

You can see how American a subreddit is by how much fluff there is in it. For whatever reason Americans just like pictures of someone putting a logo on a cake, and even in /r/dota2, those posts happen mostly when Europeans are asleep.

Wow. Hammered drunk as shit is apparently the best way to make friends in dota. Especially if you're talkative. This whiskey man, it whispers to me the secrets of playing razor.

I have no idea how true this is and don't even visit Reddit but I found it hilarious nonetheless.

The difference in subscribers/number of viewers ratio is likely mostly down to StarCraft 2 being at a different stage of life. People will have been subscribing for years and many will not have dropped in interest enough to unsubscribe but still wouldn't actively browse the forum.

This is true. Most starcraft people nowadays probably aren't actively involved and just spectate while casually following news via reddit.

Come to think of it, this is probably a characteristic for most 1v1 sports in general.

Can't really compare (player numbers | viewer numbers | reddit numbers).

Because viewer numbers comes down to % active interest in eSports.

Reddit numbers comes down to as mentioned age, but I believe more importantly community location hot-spots. Since Dota's viewers are for the most part European and a very large part Eastern European, the amount of reddit users in those areas is comparatively low to America. While StarCraft and LoL are probably both most popular in America only considering the western world.

If the same percentage of the Russian dota community used reddit as the American dota community then we'd probably have over 200,000. (if not more)
