I'm saying that the mmr system doesn't mean very much at all in regards to rating player skill because it is based on wins and losses like you said. Even if a player plays a perfect game and does everything right and has an incredibly high skill level, they can still lose and their mmr will say they are a worse player because of the loss.

That's why it doesn't mean much of anything to me, especially because its a rating of your skill based on your wins and losses in pub games. I care a lot more about how a player plays in the game than their mmr.

Over a long period of time, MMR will place you where you belong though. You will get outlier games where your team is way worse than the other one, but if you are better than your MMR, then the game is consistently underrating your ability and is therefore, on average, should give you more games that you can win.

But even if you are where you belong on the public game match making ranking, does it really mean anything in regards to how well you would preform in a competitive game?

All I'm saying is I don't see any reason why people would be overly concerned with their mmr as it seems largely irrelevant to how good of dota you could play in a competitive match. Ranking skill in a public game is like trying to judge a staring contest between two blind people, what's the point?
What they say: "I'm gonna play support!" What they mean: "I'm gonna feed all game!"

Pub DotA should be treated as a completely different game from competitive DotA. That doesn't reduce it's value as a game, especially as for 99% of players "how good you are at competitive DotA" is even less relevant than "how good you are at pub DotA", because you're never going to play competitive DotA.

2009's newest series of videos "Climbing Ladder from Zero" actually has a lot of interesting discussion about having the right mindset toward winning pub games. It's actually quite amazing how much a single person can accomplish. He'll have games that are like, Huskar+PA safe lane losing to solo DS, Invoker gettting FBed at 0:00 by Slark and then going 0-4 in the first 5 minutes (and then later abusing shared unit control to waste 2009's Lion ult), and Axe AFK from level 1--he'll go like 15-4-10 in a game like this and even with brain-dead level teammates like this he basically ends the game saying "if I didn't die at all this game, we could have won".

He also recited the last 10 digits of PI, described the end of an infinite parabola, and explained why treant was overpowered.

I just had a very enjoyable game.

I was going to try out Death Prophet for the first time, and I got in a game where everyone was russian and only understood basic gaming initials.

But somehow, we managed to work better then expected for a pub game and win the game. And I somehow got most last hits in my team. It was very nice

Also, this happened. It look funny:p

see no number is truly infinite eventually we lose the ability to describe that number, and when that occurs, the number ceases to exist to humans.

I like to think this is the mentality I'm working with as a relatively new player. Even with newer friends or teammates that go full retard, I just try to play as good as I can and do what I can to bring the game back. Being terrible, that isn't much, but more and more often where I lose I'm ending up with decent results personally and I genuinely feel like I'm improving.

Only really get annoyed when I completely fuck up a game, and usually that's under my control so I can work on not doing that again.

Dota 2 gets a lot of views on the tournies where as league gets a crapton of views on select tournies and player streams. The non-riot(Big tournies) don't get that many views. I mean the CPS didn't even get 20k when I was watching and it was sick production quality.

So what you're saying is that Riot gets a lot more casual viewers, while hardcore viewers watch dota more?

You could make that conclusion though it's not mine. Think a lot of league player streams are very high quality compared to rest of the games. They tend to get that it's a product instead of just streaming themselves playing.

The fact that you have a bloodstone means you should read the Death Prophet guide in the strategy forums ^_^

While I agree BS isn't that good, I dont think I'll ever build right click DPS items on DP like the guide semi-suggests. I probably will be able to find 10 better items better than a MKB on her -_______-

Riot does a better job at advertising the streams, when there is a major event going on all you can see in the client is the link to the event. And they also do featured streams for players, posting news (monthly ? Not sure) about specific player streams which, from what I've seen, generates a lot of traffic.

In Dota, excluding large events, it seems that it's usually just the CIS teams can pull the massive numbers (specially Na'Vi) as you can see by the 40k people on v1lat stream.

It just looks like (to me) Valve doesn't prioritize the streaming like Riot does.
