For example, if I picked Russian and English as my languages, I doubt the game will start with a big sign saying "ENGLISH", or "RUSSIAN", so I will just speak whichever of the two I want to in-game, which might annoy people who were only queued for English, if I were to speak Russian. The only real solution to that, is to have people only able to pick one language, in which case probably 90% of people will pick English regardless of their actual language because it would have the fastest queue times. So, I don't see the language option really doing anything besides providing another reason for people to QQ about other languages being spoken in their games.

A lot of things that are active items in DotA are summoners in League (Blink, RoA, Mek, Arcanes, TP scroll, Midas. Urn/BKB kind of). Obviously they're all slightly different but the concepts stay similar, that's usually a good way to introduce DotA items to League guys. Also it gets them all wet when you tell them about all the League ultimates which are similar to normal DotA skills. :>

I also don't really know if having a language option where you can select multiple languages (As is implied in the patch notes) will really solve anything. I mean these people already queue on servers far away from where they live, why would they not select multiple languages as well. Anyway, team matchmaking is cool. Should increase the amount of teams getting into dota and serve as good practice for mid-tier teams.

People will still get a lot of games where people don't communicate (simply because they don't communicate, nothing to do with language), and people will still get games with speakers of whatever their least favourite language is, either because of people who are multilingual, but have a preferred language, and because of people who pick extra languages for faster queue times. For example, if I picked Russian and English as my languages, I doubt the game will start with a big sign saying "ENGLISH", or "RUSSIAN", so I will just speak whichever of the two I want to in-game, which might annoy people who were only queued for English, if I were to speak Russian. I loved playing with Koreans and Russians in BW and I found some great people this way. Like, I don't want to ruin someones game who queued for Russian only but I also don't want to miss the people who technically speak enough english for gaming but wouldn't call themselves fluent enough to queue for it. T_T Edit: I want an option called "I just wanna play some good fun DotA"

Lol, that was quite a buff to the hero! The first rocket is supposed to slow for just 20% and the second for 50%. The fact that it was the other way around is a huge deal!

Also, there's technically nothing stopping you from checking off Russian or Korean as one of your languages, haha. I'm guessing most people will lie about their fluency, or pick multiple languages. if you can only pick one language, everyone's just going to pick whichever the most popular is anyways.

Beating bat mid with tinker is very unlikely, you're looking to break even or at the least just farm your basic items without dying a billion times.

And if you have Russian/English it'll try to find people with both checked as well. Yeah, they could, but then i don't really get the point of it, because then I could just check off one or the other and get faster queue times, since there are probably more "pure" English speakers than there are Russian/English bilingual speakers. So, this reduces to the case of everyone picking one language, in which case, everyone will still play together anyways. The point of being able to pick multiple languages, is that if I speak English/French, then I can play in either English games, or French games, and the matchmaker can queue me into either of them. That's what I think Valve's aiming for, with the hope that people will be truthful in order to make the game experience better by not having language barriers. The language option will maybe help a little bit for some of the major languages, but there will still be a lot of crossover in my opinion, and people who speak smaller languages in terms of numbers of players will check off other languages for better queue times.

I think single selection would work. We'll have to see though, there's no way to 'fix' the problem and still keep global play. But however this is implemented should reduce some of it.
