Where have you been for the last 2/3 months. TA has been an insta-pick for ages, PL since agi gain, KotL is being played in/against every tri-lane he isn't banned from so is now the "hot-shit" and Gyro has seen a lot of play recently aswell (though I haven't seen him much in pubs myself)
Also PL + KotL spam is pretty great if you're not on the receiving end

Not sure.

Editing the defaults in text or using something like http://code.google.com/p/d2ric/ is much easier--the newest patch broke the in-game suggested items interface, but editing the defaults still works fine for me.

A Dark Seer solo might be able to handle a PL+KotL lane, assuming there's no help from other lanes/heroes

I was wondering about this
RIP my ~25 saved itembuilds, I will continue to fight against Valve's tyranny of naked headdress Lone Druid

Nuke heavy lanes + wards can do pretty nasty things to a lane like that.

The other thing about PL KotL is that there isn't enough kill threat to really suppress many hard laners. No hard disables, and if KotL uses Illuminate to try for a kill and fails, you probably just pushed the lane super hard. If you don't want to deal with beating PL+KotL, just put a solo hard laner against them and run a jungler.
Even a mediocre hard laner like Puck can farm very comfortably vs. PL+KotL, particularly since both Illuminate and Spirit Lance are super easy to dodge with Phase Shift. More common hard laners like DS, Windrunner, or Magnus can be very successful against that lane, because there's absolutely no way PL+KotL actually has a kill threat against any of those heroes, and with freedom to get XP, they can be a huge annoyance to PL's farm.
KotL+PL is hard to deal with when you're expected to win against them, but in a situation where you're only expected to get XP/some gold/be an annoyance to PL's farm, PL+KotL doesn't exactly have that many tools to prevent you from doing that.

The changelog part of dota2.com has gone invisible, I'd say Riki but he is in the game for more than a year already.

They'll probably allow you to edit recommended items the normal way again once guides are fully implemented.
