It is a better counter than SF that NaVi was picking. Anyway combo him with an SD and you can dirsrupt+static link the sven early game. Once he has his BKB just purge+link and you can probably get enough to remove damage.

Maybe viper could? That slow from his ult goes through BKB, slows attackspeed too

funnily enough as a counter engage treant works vs sven carry, he either has to bkb while engaging or save it to break out of overgrowth and get chain disabled until then. there are tons of ways to deal with sven, but that requires practicing other things. which most western teams aren't willing to do

Oh no, he said Treant HERE WE GO AGAIN

HE NEEDS MORE BASE DAMAGE

Shadow Demon is a much better pick if you're looking to counter sven.

What people seem to forget about theory crafting counters like this is that the "better counter" has to be a lot better in that role compared to the more "conservative pick" to make up for the fact that people have less experience playing it to it's full strength.
If you look at e.g. the question as to whether you want to pick Tide or Tree (or SF/Razor, Spectre as a carry etc.) their theoretical value has to be a LOT better than a more common pick simply because the individual player and the team as a whole don't have a big enough sample size playing with that guy turning it into a (potential) high risk/high reward situation.
This type of stuff rarely means a lot when you believe you can build an edge in more conservative way (aka most teams that are on a similar level) and it's very ballsy to pull off when you are weaker than the enemy team (imagine how many people would shit over your theorycraft when it didn't work because of player/team skill, not because you were actually wrong). That doesn't happen a lot.
The scenarios we're left with where those things can be "discovered" easily are teams who practice their ass off with them, better teams having fun with weaker teams and desperate teams in a situation where they believe victory is impossible with a more conservative idea. That's not exactly a whole lot of room to work with.

Hero countering is, at its base, a silly concept derived from pub play. While Hero A might be good against Hero B in situation X, looking only at that interaction through heavily tunnel-vision is a terrible way to look at heroes. A better framework would be an understanding of lineups and lane, their relative matchups in the early game, likely midgame progressions, and consideration for relative strengths in fields like mobility, burst, teamfight controll, initiation, carry, map controll, tankiness, farm potential and scaling, etc.
There are certain situations where a hero or some combination of heroes is found to be "OP", but taking that out of consideration of an overall lineup is utterly idiotic. What DotA does is it pits lineups, gameplans, and execution against each other, not "my heroes counter yours".

How do you know what western teams have tried in practice?

I think a lot of players think he is good, but just don't feel comfortable about when to draft him or not. I think he could be amazing against a Naix pick. AngryTestie plays a DISGUSTING Corrupted Disciple who is the HON equivalent of Razor. He can rice really well on him and he can tear people apart. Testie can do this with most heroes but his CD is definitely very strong. I think you've gotten lost

Hi Aui ^_^
I agree with Kupon3ss. Countering a singular hero with specific picks is gimmicky to say the least. Usually the safest way to deal with a strategy that is particularly strong is identifying WHEN and HOW it is weakest, not WHO or WHAT it is weakest against

its ok princexizor was professional player once but we dont know anything about it and his arguments are infallible

Honestly for me, I think the discussion of "counters" just does not carry weight in DotA. There are some heroes that are stronger against a certain hero but that alone does not make them a counter. The whole idea of "countering" has a stigma about it, that if someone chooses X than you pick Y most of the time. The problem with this is that it does not hold up since this game is not 1v1.
I would say the idea of "combo" heroes carry more weight than "counters" since it allows for the core of the game to be included which is teamplay. The notion of combo does not necessitate if X is picked, you should pick Y. But rather, it implies that if you pick X, Y could work and it allows for a larger array of combos.
Alas, this is merely from a pub perspective since I have never played at a truly professional level, or even a level beyond that of average pub.
