They've said at the end of the last 3 seasons they'll increase the prize pool. We know they're not paying for flights, and accommodations in Ukraine isn't exactly expensive.
Defense is same shit. They've increased the pool by what? from 10k euro to 20k dollars, An increase of 50%. Even though jD's numbers are enormous now, and the prize pool is most likely supplied by sponsors. And they have absurd amounts of ticket sales.
Dota prize pools are far too low for their viewership, that's just how it is. Hopefully this ESL league will change that through-out. (and as far as I'm aware, ESL pays for flights as well) Or maybe the sc ones are too high for their viewership? Yeah it's relatively widely accepted that the ROI on starcraft has become really bad for the most part. And also, going from 10k to 20k is a 100% increase not 50%. I dont think creating a "bubble" around dota2 is a smart idea, I'd rather see organisation try to be sustainable. I guess I should have been more clear with the whole euro/dollar thing, but it is 50%.
My main point is that if you have a $x tournament when you are 20% of the size you are today, then you shouldn't be hosting $x tournaments anymore. Especially when you've added an extra revenue stream which likely earns you as much as the entire prize pool for some tournaments. And I'm not saying this only about jD. It applies to all the competitions.
Although ultimately it's a problem because you don't need to have higher prize pools, you will get the same teams in the west for a 10k tournament and a 40k tournament. And the organizations which are currently in Dota aren't very good at attracting sponsors.
I'd hope this changes with the EMS. Because the prize pools at the moment may be sustainable for tournaments, but it's not for players and teams, and I think tournaments 'should' be able to offer more.

I don't play this game, but I noticed on TC's stream that even when he's pushing towers or at the opponent's ancient structure, he's still denying creeps. This seems counterproductive. Is he just stat-padding in a won game or is there some reason for this?

Probably just automatically denying creeps because it's been trained into him

Probably just habit, even though it hurts the push it still actually is useful if there are any enemies nearby to help prevent comebacks and if he was bloodseeker then it heals him.

Haha i've just gotten my first max-out bloodstone on Necrolyte. Insta-revive is insanely strong. First time i've managed to get a bloodstone fully charged on DOTA 2

He probably wouldn't do it in a serious game. People learn pretty early on when they shouldn't deny.
Like weapon switching in CS, keeps you occupied.

The test patch notes from yesterday:
"Update Notes - January 30, 2013
NOTE: This update has reorganized the file layout of Dota 2 to speed up loading and for future localization support. This will result in a large update and may take a while to download."
