She went dual hardlane: https://dotabuff.com/matches/104569965 But on a serious note, any hero can be played on any position in pub. In fact you need to have that flexibility in order to enjoy pub. 5 carries can be so much fun when people in team willing to tolerate with their 'positions'. While for comp scene, there is no chance we will ever see a naga as support.

In my opinion other support heroes will do much better than naga while having no farm. I didn't watch those games but can you tell me how the lanes went, how much farm the naga got, and what items he went? LGd, ig, navi, mouz, dignitas, eg, and other teams have used naga as a carry and not a support, I don't think the exception proves the rule. But again I didn't watch those games so can you help me out with the specifics about it and how it worked? On January 22 2013 08:01 BurningSera wrote: what about support lanaya? A pub is a pub that is true, but if I'm saying x hero is not good at doing y i always mean in a competitive match, because like you said anything can happen in a pub so it's not worth theorycrafting about since you can do anything you want.

But again I didn't watch those games so can you help me out with the specifics about it and how it worked? They picked naga to aggressive trilane. She was the "5th" position in the team. Didn't get much items at all, was warding etc. Used her very well because as soon as the enemy carry BKB'd the naga would sleep and the team would focus the carry down. Since when the carry is under the bkb effect the sleep wont affect him they could kill him with the enemy team just watching being unable to do anything. Don't know if it was specifically to counter Luna which is a very common BKB carrier or if it is a support they have been working with.

If you can utilize her illusions to the max, stacking, denying runes&scouting she seems to be alright. I've always wanted to see a support kunkka though, he can harass early on pretty well and his spells are all about teamfight.(huehue) One good thing about semicarry/carry supports is that they scale into the endgame. It's still funny to see NTH play those though, but it's all good because if anything dota is very flexible when it comes to heroes and what can they perform..quite fun to see.

I have seen Empire do it aswell but honestly I am not sure if it was just them outclassing their opponent rather then the strength of Naga as a support.

Situational, but it has higher effectiveness than Vanguard and develops faster than Linken or Heart-based builds. That's what i hate about dota theorycrafting, there are so many situations where you could say "well it's situational". But i think you would agree it would be much more efficient for that carry naga to be getting something like a diffusal or a radiance, and to let his support kotl buy the mek and arcane boots, at least for 99/100 games On January 22 2013 08:09 Kipsate wrote: Getting Meka/Arcane boots on a Naga Siren doesn't make her a support though. a #3 position Naga would get that and I think people are talking about a #4 or a #5 Naga Siren. That's another thing, So many heroes are kind of inbetween the "roles" system in what they do throughout a game. I much prefer talking about specific heroes and what they do in the game, as opposed to the roles of a hero. For example a crystal maiden and a chen both play the support role for a team, but they function completely different so comparing them can sometimes be like an apples to oranges type of situation.

From watching all those chinese vods i was actually surprised when i saw how often kunkka was played as a supportive hero, like i saw him getting items like pipe, usually go mid and gank and giving farm to the carries in team. Like you said his skills are more about teamfight so it makes sense. It is similar to the case of playing Furi, you can go dps/carry build on him when the team needed carry power or he can be a fat support because he can farm the resources where his team cannot farm so is all good. Position3's jug during ti2 was awesome too.

Any hero can technically be played as a support, but what makes X hero better than Y hero at supporting? Support heroes provide something in the early to mid-game, where the carry tends to be weakest. That something can be anti-pushing power, pushing power, team fight presence, the ability to set up kills/gank, etc. Naga siren has a few of these aspects, so I don't see a particular reason why she can't be played as a support, really. Saying Naga siren is a bad support because she would be better as a carry doesn't make sense to me.
