It's dota 1 and I feel their quality has declined a little recently, but their number 1 this week is quite something. For those of you that aren't familiar with dota1 heroes/items, that's a shadowfiend with Ethereal Blade, Boots of Travel, Armlet, Blink, Force staff and Euls. He is being chased by a juggernaut, a sven, and a furion. Here you go.

Armlet is still very situational even on the majority of Strength carries. Outside of Huskar, Skeleton King, and Lifestealer, other Strength carries by and large have other more important item timings. It's a good pub item when you are farmed and want an immediate damage item and cannot/do not want to farm for a more significant item, but it's never a must-buy except perhaps on those 3.

BKB and Manta are more powerful item timings, Janggo is the best item for dealing with his early problems (e.g. mana), he has no way to deal with the health degeneration, and the "good build-up" is partially negated by the fact that it provides zero illusion-relevant stats until you actually complete the item. There are a lot of situations where I'd want one on CK but I wouldn't consider it a core item.

DK, Alch, maybe Doom (innate regen) Lycan, SB (usually will get lifesteal items) I like Armlet on those heroes too. There are some VERY situational ones like Tiny, Sven, NS, Treant, etc., but mostly would not consider it.

As an early teamfight item Janggo is stronger because your teamfight at that point in time primarily revolves around your low cooldown spells, and having the extra mana to cast 2nd/3rd Breathe Fires/Stuns is a big deal. Lothar's is also more useful for solo-kill scenarios. As a midgame fighting item Pipe or BKB are stronger because they couple with 4th rank Dragon Blood to make you more or less unkillable. And past that point Armlet doesn't fill a specific need that Dragon Knight has to make it more desirable than more slot-efficient lategame items like Mjollnir, AC, and Heart. Alch/SB I haven't played enough recently to comment. Lycan the slot-inefficiency hurts you too much if you're already going for the traditional Medallion+Vlad's start, plus Lycan needs BKB as an immediate follow-up to that in most cases. At the point where you have Medallion+Vlad's+Treads+BKB, you're not looking at 2.5k gold items because you're starting to get tight on slots and the necessity of selling an item if you make something small undermines a smaller item's cost-effectiveness.

Because it'd not be better than the current 'standard items' for any of the commonly picked agility carries that are currently used in competitive play. Armlet isn't underrated on agility carries, it's just not really the best option for them. Coordinated teams wont allow you to fight them and repeatedly armlet toggle. And most of the heroes where armlet IS built you either build lifesteal or they have built in lifesteal or a way to regain health already(Exception being CK, due to how the item works with his ulti). A hero like n'aix builds it because he can sustain the constant damage you recieve from having the item activated(Ontop of benefitting greatly from all the stats, like recieving bonus damage from strenght). Outside of maybe juggernaut with a healing ward barely any agility carries have something to compensate for the constant damage armlet deals to you. AM? No real synergy. Void? No real synergy. Naga? I guess her illusions do benefit from the active, but they're super squishy already so that small amount of bonus HP wont really benefit them all that much. TA? No real synergy either. Luna? No real synergy either. And so on. It's not that it's bad, there are just seriously better item choices for an agility carry. Game poped, couldnt respond in time. I never said Armlet should be gotten over other big items in an organized environment. There you are provided the space to farm that big 4-5k item regardless of how big its chunks are. I was merely arguing Armlet is a good choice in a pub (= unorganized) setting. There you have no guarantee you will have those 5 or so extra minutes to go from 3k to 6k farm (i.e. the difference between Armlet and Manta/BKB/Radi and so on; the extra gold is made out of boots, maybe stick and TP's). At that point being stuck with some components (not even those if you want to rush Radiance) due to unscouted ganks plain sucks. Suddenly, what was a 12 min battefury turns into a 18 minute one because you had no vision, got ganked and there was no safe place to farm anymore so you had to stay back and try to kill jungle camps at best. Pubs are a whole different beast. On average going for small and easy to build items will prove more efficient than trying to simply rush your favorite build. Otherwise you are prone to the element of chance: the first game you fail at building it in time and get outfarmed and lose. Next game it is no-stun-5-carry team time and you lose that one too. By the time you get into the 3rd game you are not giving a damn anymore. Pubing is all about playing it safe. Even if you get outlaned there is still a chance if you group up as 5, find a pickoff and a free tower due to that, you can get something to work with. Yes, in scrims and tourneys you go for efficient builds because you are given the space to do so safely on a consistent basis.

Drums, aquila, yasha, vit booster, hood, diffusal. I mean i'd much rather go boots->Drums->Aquila and then build something like diffusal blade into yasha into manta, on spectre if i knew i couldn't get my radiance than going for and early or even late armlet. Again, not saying it's bad, but there are just better things to go for, IMO. It's not just about playing competitive dota, there are for most heroes just better items to go for. If you're prevented from getting a bfury on AM you'd much rather get a yasha and vit booster to fight with because it synergizes so much better with him as a hero compared to armlet.

-> team compositions (both teams) -> what hero you were playing -> whether you went for small items first (<3k, yes Dagon and Shadowblade count as "small") or rushed big items (if we talk about Manta, going yasha straight into manta is a big item rush, while getting yasha, then going back for other small items before finishing Manta is not a rush for a big item). Large sample size is key here, maybe around 1000 games combined among everyone doing this should be a good start.

Are you one of those useless lunas who got helm as first item and proceed to go farm nonstop like an AM ignoring the fact that luna's biggest strength lies in early-mid game? Against any decent oppo they will focus you because they know you have pitiful amount of hp. I am those luna win 90% of my games if my team fight their lives for me and i cannot die in team fight and i kill everyone. nobody said you must get hotd early, but getting both satanic and heart is very special.

It's also something that came from an enviroment without matchmaking, where anything indeed worked in pubs, considering that the average skill level on a forum or community is ussually reasonably above the general crowd in Bnet/Garena/EuroBattle. So you would indeed go Desolator Crystal Maiden and carry the game. But even now it's not even a lie, as long as you are consistent. If you are a Drow Picker or always play on tryhard stacks, it obviously won't work. But if you consistently do stupid things, there's no reason why you wouldn't end up winning the same amount of games you would by tryharding. The issue is that people are ussually very inconsistent, specially those that do weird build from time to time.

Must be some weird trolls you guys are playing with, even PT and bracer stacking Centaurs are more common. Like a week ago I had the weirdest experience ever, everyone was going armlet on every hero in every game. Made me wonder for a second if they had buffed armlet in the last patch and I'd missed it or something, armlet sniper, armlet dazzle, armlet gyrocopter, armlet lion, armlet slark. I've seen some shit.
