I think the +75 movespeed instead of the usual +55 or +60 is an attractive bonus as well.

The only time i looked at tranqs as a 'not optimal' item was before it could be disassembled and was buffed, AKA during 6.73.
The second the heal was buffed slightly ontop of the disassembling i fell in love with the item, more or less, it's such a nice item on a lot of heroes now, IMHO.
From the Ghastly Eyrie I can see to the ends of the world, and from this vantage point I declare with utter certainty that this one is in the bag!

when it came out, my friends and I thought 'Oh cool, cheaper upgraded boots, and with that high MS and active it looks perfect for supports

but nope, supports still getting arcane and carries/hardlane solos are getting it because of the really good sustain

I'm pretty sure most people jumped onboard with Tranquils after the 6.74 buff where they could be disassembled and the Heal got a significant buff. They also increased the number of hits to break, but that also got reverted.

What heroes benefit the most from Tranquils? Is it situational or are there some heroes you should always get them on? I realized I hardly ever (virtually never) buy them but I see some pros or high levels get them at times. Care to offer a refresher on the pros/cons?

pretty much every hero that can't heal itself should get tranq, its the best boots

pros: cheap, fast, heals you, dissassembleable
cons: none

@IPA - Tranquil is just an all around amazing choice for burst regen. So much that it is an option on a lot of carries who will forgo their treads(carry boots) for it. It can also be disassembled for Force Staff, or Vlads for some carries, or as a support option. One of the items that I feel doesn't have too many cons with it. Heroes that already have some form of regen will never go Tranquil or heroes that are reliant on mana/agi/str or fighting. (Naix, Skeleton King, Storm Spirit, Queen of Pain, Rikimaru, Huskar, Lycanthrope, Brewmaster)

Some carry examples, and heroes that often get Tranquil.
Phantom Lancer --> Tranq+Soul Ring into Radiance.
Luna --> Tranq, drums+aquila.
I would get it on majority 4th or 5th supports, Pudge, Axe, Centaur, Meepo, Wisp, occasionally exort Invoker, Batrider, Sylla Bear, occasionally Weaver, Windrunner, and rarely Bounty.

Thanks to the disassemble mechanic it's the best all around item in the game. If you're in a side-lane and buying Basil. You can disassemble, pick up RoP, Buy RoR sideshop (forms Tranquil), use Tranquil burst heal, then quickly disassemble and sell RoR for 100% return then pick up Sobi to re-create Basil again. I do this often on Meepo and Windrunner for examples. Damn I can talk a lot about Tranquil boots, HAHA.

You can also double boot on heroes like axe by disassembling between arcanes and tranqs. Kind of funny really.

Not in DotA2, can't remember how it'd work in DotA1.

To disassemble an item? No, you can do that anywhere on the map. He's talking about like standing next to a shop (secret in this example) where you disassemble your boots, buy energy booster. This completes Arcane Boots, then use arcane boots to get extra mana, disassemble again and sell Energy Booster for 100% refund, and pick up other components to make your original boots. A little trick you can do to get some benefit, I do this a lot with Tranquils.

Agree that tranqils are awesome. It might look weird, because technically they´re not that good, reverting back to simple boots after a couple of hits and all.
The high movementspeed, the low cost, the cheap active and the fact they only react to hero and tower damage make them really good though. The ability to disassemble let's you transition into other boots later while at most losing ~250 gold by selling the rings.
Essentially any hero that doesn´t aim at a certain kind of boots as core can get +25 movementspeed for ~500 more gold.

As for phase boots, they´re technically for the +24 damage and the reliable combat mobility. Phasing gives unitwalk and roughly 50 more ms for the duration. Unlike tranqs this will work in the middle of battle.
Remember seeing all those progamers doing awesome body blocks? You can´t body block someone with phase boots.
And still 50 ms on the press of a button. It´s 16% ms. That´s 1% higher than the active version of drums. 6% higher than yasha, 4& higher than S&Y.
Phase boots definitely have their place. It´s kind of a cheap gap closer/gap enhancer before Force Staff/Dagger.

edit:
I don´t get Ring of Aquila though.
On many heroes like I would get a basilius or a wraith band but very seldomly would I get both on the same hero. That´s 10k gold. For an item that doesn´t really do anything.
With 1 k I can complete upgrade my boots to any type that´s not Travels, I can get the first piece of most recipes, or a vitbooster. If I need the regen I can get a soulring/medaillon/urn of shadows(sobi mask regen outweighs basilius regen once you have more than 33 intelligence, those 3 items contain a sobi mask) or if I want both regen and armor get a bottle and chainmail.
To me it looks like an aquila just delays other better items by 1k gold, which is quite a lot.
If nobody hates you, you´re doing something wrong. However someone hating you doesn´t make you right

silencers level one is only scary if you let it be scary, and he should never have rune control (if mid).

wat? aquila saves you an item slot for those times when you do get a basi AND a wraith band. so basically it's for every mana-intensive agi carry. but it's fucking annoying to see people buy it on veno and vengeful.

Soul Ring has no combat stats, Medallion and Urn it depends on the hero how practical their respective actives are.

Aquila is cost-efficient combat stats, that builds smoothly out of laning items. That's it. But the thing is, there are a lot of carries now that actually do want to contribute to teamfights/pushes early on enough that they want those combat stats immediately rather than necessarily saving for a bigger item.

A good example here is Luna. She needs the regen to support her Lucent Beam usage in lane (but Soul Ring is overkill, she doesn't gank enough for Urn to be practical, and Medallion's mix of stats is more awkward/less cost-effective), and she expects to be pushing/teamfighting fairly early (around when she has Aquila+Janggo) rather than farming to her first major item.

Tranqs only "break" after 4 instances of damage from player-controlled units (heroes and their summons), and Roshan. Towers, creeps, and neutrals don't count.
