I'm in decently high-tier matchmaking, majority of my games are in the first 10 pages of the watch tab and I often match with pros. I exclusively soloqueue and almost only random (about 90% of my games are random AP). The trick to get out of low-tier matchmaking is to make sure that while the other team may have 5 retards, your team only has 4.

Also, if you think you can escape terrible teammates by getting a higher rating, you are sorely mistaken, it does not get better. If you don't like soloqueue down there you won't like it in the future either. I know when people complain about their position in the MM they're generally just venting and their sentiments will pass but if you seriously get frustrated while playing then I suggest you find people to stack with somewhere (don't ask me where).

What's your level? (don't even know if that matters)

And you mean stacking, like being pre-made? Doesn't that mean you'll also get matched against pre-made teams?

Not necessarily, it's based off your stack's MMR (whether averaged out or something similar)

Clearly so easy to carry the game on a support without a stack.

Honestly at this point I'm thinking I should flat out give up on support. Like playing it but if your carries...can't...then you can't do anything about it.

These are just an observation from my own personal experience.

In normal queue, people seem to lack the ability to end the game before 40 minutes. I found that the quickest route into high is just picking semi-carries. My friend did the same thing by just playing hard carries. At the end of the day, good mechanics such as last hitting, map awareness and game sense will pull you out of normal. 40 minutes is enough time to get reasonably fat on most heroes. This is also true of high, but I did find that I had to be more pro-active about ganking/counter pushing and making.

I found transitioning from high to very is quite different. In most games, one team has a fairly decisive lead by 20 minutes in. In shorter games, supports feel much more powerful. I think good support is often the difference in these games.

That being said, there are a lot of good things you can do as a support in normal mmr. You can probably play more effectively if you be more aggressive, for instance, ganking mid lane at around 6 mins is a good start.

These are experiences just from my solo queue account where I play a lot of support, especially lately.

For the record, I find it easier to win in solo queue games as a support than in 5 man stacks. My team queue account is just in high. My solo queue is mostly in very high.

Agree mostly what you said there and it is very similar to my experience too. I was playing semi like mirana/slardar all day back then!

And good support definitely makes a huge difference in v.high game. And then when you see 2 supports vs 1 support then it is pretty much gg straight away. Not to say that most decent players i have met literally have almost none experience in playing support role, you take away their farm and buy some wards they don't have a clue how to play that hero anymore.

tbh most v.high games still suck, just look at dendi's solo queue rofl. Shitty players every game (they are not bad, but they don't have a clue how to run some hero against certain line up/heroes or they are on a role they are not good at). Whenever I played with nice mannered and decent random players I will tell everyone (including opponent team) that was really a gg and I commended everyone.

My personal observation is this. If you pick heroes with the intention of trying to win to somehow "raise your mmr", you'll likely end up complaining about "elo hell" or "all of my games are so tryhard" once you get to a point where the picks you make with the intention of raising your mmr put you above your natural skill level.

I honestly don't think you should ever worry about winning or losing, just try to play the game in a way in which you try to do the correct thing and correct your mistakes, the only common factor in all of your bad games is yourself.

Ok, Valve really needs to sort out smurfing. Just met a guy on the enemy team who decides to throw the game because his team was "shit" and claims he had more accounts so he doesn't care about low priority queue. Stuff like this need to die.

With the slew of beta invites coming out, I'm sure a lot of people don't have friends or choose not to give out their keys and just make new accounts to smurf with.

Can't really avoid it.

Exactly this. If you just try constantly to improve on your own play instead of "must win" you will actually win more and be less frustrated. I find most of the time the people that complain about "my team is always full of retards" often can't even see their own mistakes.

In all of my games, I do try to pick to win. If it's ALL PICK, I always random first and try to convince the rest to pick accordingly based on my random pick.

If not ALL PICK, then I definitely try to get a top-tier hero, or any hero that mixes well with my allies.

Unfortunately, I want to put all game modes on search to reduce wait times... That helps right?

SAME LOL!

It's quite bad because on a normal 603 gold game, I would get the usual tangos, clarity, salve, etc. But on a 853 gold game, I'd always rush for a secret shop item, and run item less for first minutes or so.. lol

the point of random gold isn't to let you get more regen, it's either for u do go hilarious amounts of wards (on support) or to try next level item builds

mid: bottle 3braches tango
strong melee: boots tango orb of venom
spammy int heroes: soul ring + ggbranch
Huskar/puj: 5 gaunlets and a tango, to prove how manly you are

etc etc, don't just buy regen, explore

The thing is most veteran players (from my experience and people i have played with) wouldn't care much on losing or winning as soon as the game is good (everyone in game knows how to play and willing to adjust themselves to give what the team needs at times). For example, I don't even give a damn to 4/5 carries in team because we are are not playing for money or anything and it is incredibly challenging and fun to see if we can make the line up works, is just that people need to play as a team, buy cour/fly if they felt like they can afford that, drop a vision ward when needed etc.

While for the personal skill wise, everyone always have space for improvement.

Or rush a secret shop item like me.

Usually ring of health, void stone, energy booster, or a tranquil boots, etc.

I do give a damn about 4/5 carries team because I always end up playing support. If the other team picked tryhard heroes, please pick accordingly. There is nothing better than smashing people trying to win. It is satisfying.

fcking love the Soulring as starting item on undy or orge.

boots+5branches on huskar is a nice way to show your manliness - you either die hard for firstblood or get a double kill with that.
