people are DEFINITELY better than in the DotA 1 days.

in fact, I think the community is noticeably better than it was a year ago.

In 2006 last hitting was a foreign concept, much less lane controlling, for most people. Now you can be in a game with 5 new people and someone will scream not to autoattack.

If anyone was watching TalkDota, I can't agree with them predicting such a poor performance for Fnatic in the group stages. These guys are really, really good - and they've really started to show it. Not only skilled individually, they communicate well, and they've already won DH a couple of times (albeit in HoN, they still won), so they know how to communicate and play together at a lan.

We got trolled by a drow, venge, luna lane. Aura damage alone nearly had them on DD the whole time

Treads + manta Drow around 20 mins is scary as hell. Follow up with either a BKB (against disables), Daedalus (for 2-shotting with right clicks), Butterfly (more push and nice evasion) or MKB (only if they have PA/Mangix or something like that).

The alternative is getting a heart and running around the enemy team in circles while spamming the chat with: "I'm pushing your lanes as we speak and you can't do anything about it". It generates just as much rage as a Dagon + Shadowblade NP.

Even as the noob that I am I think I can state that the current drow definitely needs some sort of re-work, even if its just the aura toggle. Range creeps hitting harder than Megas is not fun

Worst is lycan+visage(scepter)+drow. Lycan howls, drow buff+visage familars destroy towers before you can even TP. I am still a bit upset at that strategy.

So I'm bad (let's get that right out of the way) but fairly efficient for my "normal" level. I've lost 9 of 11 or 10 of 12 games -- I have been at a positive ratio or .500 for a majority of those games. My record is something like 25-36. Wins seems to be few and far between.

Are those just the perils of MM? I come from SC2 where I enjoyed a slightly over 50% ratio at a masters level. I feel like I am being efficient and playing "well" for my level but I just lose...and lose...and lose. I need some encouraging words. I love Dota 2 but I hate losing game after game because I always have one feeder. Or Russians farming during team engagements.
Time held me green and dying though I sang in my chains like the sea.

Well the next 10 MM games you'll have a higher chance of winning since you're under 50%?

Edit: Also, Lina is getting picked quite a lot now. Her Ult rly useful?

The odd thing about Dota 2 (and similar games) is that while it is easy to blame other people for a loss, unlike in SC2, the VAST majority of the time it is possible for you, as a single person, to win the game simply by playing better.

This doesnt necessarily mean that you have to play a carry and 1v5, but it is also possible by supporting and directing better, adjusting your own play to cover the mistakes of others, or simply completely eliminating the mistakes of your own play.

Unfortunately, MM tends to actually be fairly decent at putting people of similar skill levels in games together, thus its harder for a single person to hit that godlike 1v5 status, either in ability to carry or win through simple game knowledge.

The higher you get in rating, the harder it is to pull this sort of thing off because the marginal knowledge/skill you have available to you to carry is less (and the other team makes fewer mistakes, relatively).

So if you start to get frustrated, focus on your own play and see how you can improve. Always remember that it IS possible to win 4v5's (either in terms of having a dead weight teammate or having a straight AFK). Most of the time those games suck and the effort simply isnt worth the reward, but they do happen.

Pick a strong mid-game hero and carry, don't even toy with the idea of playing anything else until you get out of MMR hell.

There is no MMR hell. That whole concept revolves around a certain MMR range existing where - despite belonging into a much higher skill bracket - it's impossible to win more than 50% of your games because of your teammates being horrible. That very definition screams bullshit.

If it's not possible for you to win more than 50% of your games over a certain amount (law of big numbers and shizzle, I doubt it takes more than 100 games total tho) then... you have exactly the team mates you deserve on average. For every game that your team was "utter trash" and got stomped you had one game where the exact same happened to the opponent team.

Amen.

Statistically, 20% of the time you will be the worst on your team. 20% you will be the best.

I never get why people say this. IF and only IF my teammates are so bad that i have to go on a 5 minute rampage to win the game, they are so stupid/blind that they pick 4 agi heroes and at least one of them goes mid with me. Steals XP or competes with lasthitting. Or (like yesterday) micros the courier into enemy towers every 2 minutes to test your multitasking abilitys.
The rest of the games I play are fairly balanced.
