Sure it's still in beta (kind of...) but I haven't seen any additions to this area of the game since release. Half the reason league of legends is popular is because they figured this stuff out. MM is the biggest area Valve feels they can still improve on. You make it sound like outside of pro team games, the entire game including gameplay, design, feel, etc etc is a joke. Obviously there are improvements that should be made to MM but the game is still pretty damn good.
There are still new things to be implemented. They still have the remaining unreleased heroes to work on, they're still implementing LAN, and they will definitely continue to improve MM as they can.
As for 'casuals mixing with tryhards'...how do you plan to fix this? Make players tick a 'I'm a tryhard' or 'I'm a casual' box?

when does DK vs. LGD starts?

If Valve promoted you to Lead Designer, how would you go about fixing all these issues you've raised? It'd be impossible to create a separate MMR for each 'catagory' that you just stated. Like, Casuals play in this MMR, tryhard can play here, people who are stacking with a friend can play here etc and so forth.
Teams who want to scrim have a plethora of places they can go to ask for scrims. Sure it's not part of the game but you act like it's not there at all.
I don't even want to get started on LoL because it'd just create an unnecessary argument between Dota and LoL.
e: Whoa I quoted my own post instead of editing haha, sorry.

Since when were tryhards a problem? People who want to win, i fail to see the fucking problem. If you're a casual player, then you'll be playing easy mode when it's released.
People that complain about tryhards are just people that are buttmad about losing. People who try to win? Oh god the horror, they certainly can't be playing for fun and trying to win at the same time!

So. Fucking. True.
To quote Sing, "The best games are when both teams are trying their hardest"
Why the fuck would anyone bash someone for, god forbid, trying their best to win the game? Its somehow suddenly wrong to try your best?
Seriously, people often have the most fun trying their best, and doing what they can to maximize their abilities.
Sure, dicking off can make some fun for you and your troll friend, but you end up ruining the game for the rest of your team, and then you call them tryhards? Jesus fuck, one of the worst terms in dota.

It is just an excuse that the losing team uses for bad play/picks.

The only time it annoys me is when we queue with say 5 but the 2/3 of us have way higher MMR than the other 2/3. So instead of facing an average collection of guys we always tend to face 5 guys acting like it's a clannie. Makes us not want to queue with our friends ;(. Lately it's not been as bad though so maybe we dropped in mmr or something. Just seems like there should be some way to have decently fun games with friends that aren't on your skill level and currently there isn't a way. It just leads to frustrating experiences for all of us since they get raped and we have to carry super hard.

The MMR system tries to balance matches so you can't just fool around? How horrible. If you want casual for fun matches, private lobbies are the way to go. Saying there isn't a way is quite silly, when that is exactly one of the reasons lobbies exist.
If you queue with low MMR friends, you will quite obviously have to carry since the enemies will still be better than the friends you queue with.

That requires alternate accounts. Would be nice if there was a "smurf" option already in dota 2. Losing out on everything else on steam every time I want to play dota 2 game with some friends seems a bit much?

It already happens with the smurfing surely so why not control it?
|
So your answer is, because people are already doing it it should be an option so anybody can choose "Hey i want to play against people below my skill-level" What the fuck? Even now smurfs don't work very well because the DotA MMR is actually extremely volatile, a friend of mine made a smurf and was back in very high within 10 games.
You should never have the option to queue against people below your skill-level, it's not fair for them. They want fair matches, they deserve fair matches. Or you would find it funny to get queued against LGD stacking as 5 repeatedly?
Edit: Sorry but all i'm reading is "Why can't i play against noobs and stomp them with bad builds with my friends?" Go create a private lobby if you want to casually play around with friends. Or suck up that they are indeed worse than you and you will probably lose playing with them.

I would find that funny as, but maybe I am strange. Also i find playing with bad players you either HAVE to go mid or play a hard carry, don't dick about as support.

That's not what i'm saying. You seem to have a rather big bias here. What I was saying was there games we would play would be almost impossible for us to win because they were just a better team regardless of what we do. What I'm saying is if smurfing is already happening it's far better to have a system valve can CONTROL that allows something similar to smurfing than a system valve can't control.
I don't understand why you seem to be getting so agitated. The private lobby is a good idea though.

But if the carry can't utilize that space, then the supporting is pointless.
You seen sing stack with sheever and tobi? He has to carry them if they want to win.

I have no bias, i just see no reason for you to have an option to queue against people below your skill level. If your friends have low MMR and you have high then your enemies will have medium MMR, averagely, this means that they'll most likely win more lanes than they'll lose, so yes you're playing from behind.
Smurfing is never okay, you can not make a system that allows you to play against people below your MMR because it's simply not fair for the people you end up against, unless of course they pick that they want to play against people above their skill-level, but let's be honest how many people would pick that? Next to nobody. And again, smurfing barely works in DotA2 due to how volatile the MMR system works, you'll be back at your old MMR fast. If you could manually choose to play against people below your skill level a lot of people would utilize it purely to stomp new players, this is a bad system on every single level. Or you would find it okay for grand master players to queue against bronze level players?
And i am not agitated, at all.
I am being purely objective here, smurfing is in no way fair for new players.
