You saying "who cares i just want to play for fun and if i suck and ruin the game for my team who cares" will make the other 4 players on your team mad. You start dota 2, you WILL suck. if its your first moba ( flame shield activated ( dota nerds RAGE if you use that term)) You will suck BAD, prob more then you have ever sucked at a video game.
You misunderstood me. You can play to win while having fun, but if all you care about is winning then Dota 2 becomes a stressful experience because god knows you will get owned repeatedly by fed hard carries. All I'm saying is that by bombarding new players with "YOU'RE FUCKIGN USELESS YOU NEED AT LEAST 300 HOURS TO HAVE ANY CONTRIBUTION TO YOUR TEAM YOU FUCKING RETARD" you're making Dota something that it's not. The purpose of Dota is not to pick the tryhardest team and get the highest GPM, it's to have fun, to relax, that's what GAMES ARE ALL ABOUT.
NOBODY goes into Dota because they think "oh yeah I want to win some fucking games, let me just read this massive info dump"

You do see some (sad) people wanted to win so badly as if they needed that win to compensate something missing in their lives at times (remember those people who rage so hard and flame even harder when they get some kills etc?).
I agree with you, to me, any game/sport etc for non-professional players should be always about having fun. People might get 'serious' and tryharding because they want to win and that's fine but they just need to remember that the game is for fun in the end of day.
I do not like pyrion flux casting but i like this first dota video from him, pretty accurate on the part of 'omg i fed so much but i had so much fun' xD

In dota I feel the need to report someone every 20 games or so, back in League it was more like every 2nd one. =P
Pub games are only bad if you treat everyone in a way guides like that teach you to treat everyone imo.
@fb: My point about that isn't that I think TA isn't hard - it's about claiming VS is great for starters. She is what I'd call the most difficult support hero in the game simply because positioning/split second judgement are more crucial on her than anyone else.
LoL community is bad -.-
Stupid surrender.
Coming from any other community, however, you HAVE to get used to the idea that you will suck, you will be flamed because you suck, you will be flamed a lot until you stop sucking, and then the flame reduces only by a little bit. Other games just don't have that (or at least, not to that extent). The guide is a somewhat friendly way of saying this. Its a better way to break the news than by learning from experience.
Unrelated: Does any LoL player think that slark feels like a LoL champion? Short cooldowns, mobility skill, can't dive towers well since they reveal you, and generally feels like a LoL bruiser.

Everyone sucks at every level of play. I only see lots of flaming when people are assholes about that fact.
|
People ARE assholes about the fact.

Slark's lore in dota2 is actually quite interesting! And funny how his role is Melee - Escape lol
Miss his original murloc model Gonna wait people to make the spiky back and a shell shield for him now then.

Remember, people are still saying to players like Dendi and Puppey that they should uninstall the game because they are bad (when they are playing on smurfs / not with their usual nickname). And that's when you realize, no matter how good you get, you will still get flamed. So you just have to ignore the trolls, thicken your skin and carry on playing. There will be idiots in every community, in every country, online and offline, The good parts of Dota outweighs the bad parts, that's why we keep on playing. : )

Just play the game, try to improve, try to have fun, try to win. You will make mistakes and you will learn from them. You will get kills or avoid dying and feel good about doing so. You get owned by a lina with her 3 spells, you think it's cool and so next game you play lina! Then you learn that hitting your spells is hard and you learn how to play against her.
You see a rikimaru and he is killing everyone, being stealth all the time! You think it's unfair and imbalanced, so you play the hero yourself and realize how he is balanced and how to play with/against him.
Learning dota is a fun process, do your best ingame and be open to suggestions and criticism.
If you go in with a shitty attitude, because your friend tells you to ignore everyone and expect heavy flame, your attitude will suffer. You will have less fun and learn less as a result. Keep dota a fun game for yourself and your friends and you will get better eventually. If you're stuck or want to improve a certain area, like figuring out how to jungle/stack creep camps, there are countless guides for you to access.

when i first played dota 2 i was on a 4man stack and 1 random I was so bad that this guy flamed me the whole game and got the enemy team to get me reported We lost the game and i hoped it would be for the best
I saw him 2 more times after this game and he kept shouting in allchat how terrible it was. And since I was bad I lost all two games too
Even when I had him muted it felt like pure shit and i tilted pretty hard but honestly thats just how the game is :/ you just gotta keep playing and get better
I still remember his name haha, godlike from greece. Fuck you godlike

So I just learned the hard way that all 3 hits of juggernaut's lvl 1 omnislash hit within the fade time of an invis rune. Good thing to keep in mind.
|
Invis rune fade time is 2 secs and omnislash interval is 0.4 sec. I was sure it was 1 sec fade time tbh

Slark is a lot more terrible than I remembered and his model in dota 2 seems really weird to me. I hope he gets changed back to a fish

I'm not 100% sure that the timings favor omnislash in perfect conditions, but factoring in delay and reaction time, omnislash wins.

Point is omnislash lvl1 takes 1.2 seconds, so he can start after you used invis and still get it off no problem. Invis rune fade time is a useful stat to know anyway

I just remind all the ragers that they should queue CM with preferably full team if they want proper games in first place. Some of them get very mad though, especially when they insist mode X is competitive and should be played like world class tournament, sometimes they go silent, other times the burst is ridiculous when I drop the most basic "yeah that's why all tournaments run the mode right?".
I'm not really trying to throw games, but depending on mode early random or semi-interesting different pick occasionally apparently is against every possible law ever made to some people. (Ok I do occasionally play that silly Necro build, sue me).
|
I want a non serious queue with reverse CM and random, using your normal MMR but not influencing it, unlocked after 30 games or so. Would be fun
