Ok so after upgrading some of my gear pieces (got Helm of Command, 28% Block 3.7k-4.7k Shield with 72 Res-All, Str/Vit/Res-All/LoH Ring) i'm looking to try act 3 again.

Any1 would recommend a build that works well for them?

Hi all,

I killed inferno diablo today and posted a pretty lengthy post on the official bnet forums on how I got there and some of my experiences so far, hoping it'll be of help for some people.

You may read it here:

I'd love to help, so if anyone have any questions please feel free to ask!

my shield is currently:

19% block
1960-2794 block amount
80 vit
31 fire res
25 res all
3% melee reduction

and a soicket (used for more vit)

since im too welfare to afford a stormshield is it even worth upgrading this shield? i tried looking for higher block chance ones but they all have a huge drop off in another stat i get from this one (res vit or melee reudction)

You can probably get quite far with that shield, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Check shields every now and then and hope you get a really good deal, or when you have enough money, buy a stormshield.

Dmn, I like your post, just one slight problem with it (on my side), you were giving res values after each act but in your screenshot you have the shout activated. It would be nice to mention if those values are with or without shout.

Kripp had somewhere around 800+res with no shout, and over 1000loh I believe, and he was doing act4 fairly easy (no skipping, 5 stack diablo, etc.).
I know that kind of LoH is insanely expensive, so I'm happy to see you did it with a blue weapon, but not quite sure what to think about those res figures, they seem a bit high to be without shout and a bit low to be with shout, compared to my stats and how difficult I find it.

Anyway, gj!

Thanks! Just keep going at it and I'm sure you will get there as well. Good luck.

Thanks for the feedback.

However, I did state what buffs I had before explaining each act. Perhaps it was a bit easy to miss.

All stats are also including both armor passives, the warcry buff and the enchantress 15% armor buff and 3% haste.

So they were with the shout. I also had 5 stacks on diablo earlier today but I messed up and couldn't kill him within the time of the buff (I stupidly adjusted my build a bit which made it a lot harder).

And you are right, 1k+ LOH is pretty damn expensive, which is why I didn't go for that. I rather spent my money elsewhere.

You don't need 800+ unbuffed / 1200 resist buffed to do act 4. I'd say you need around 600 unbuffed / 900 buffed. Preferably 1k+ buffed but it's not a necessity. You might have some problems with some packs but they should be doable.

No. You don't need more LOH or a stormshield to do act 3. I farmed it with 0 life on hit and an ivory tower shield.

I'd start by looking for upgrades for those items where you only have 2 of the 3 main stats (str/vit/resist all), such as gloves, head, feet, chest, legs. Possibly replace bul'kathos with a str/vit/resi ring if you can find one. Items like your bracers and shoulders are what you want - items that give you both 150-300 str/vit in total together with 50-70+ resist all (if they give more vit/str, you can sacrifice some resists, but then you have to make up for the resist on other pieces of gear. A good example is my legs which give me 126 str, 210 vit but only 47 resist.

Once you have your entire gear filled out in high amounts of str/vit/resist gear, together with some +additional specific resist, +armor, +life% and so on, you can start looking for expensive additional stats such as +movespeed, +attackspeed, +crit etc to further boost your damage.

First look would be better all res (600-700 with shout is too low, assuming you are using impunity, you need to aim for 800+ at least, preferably close to 1k), and some more str/vit.

The boots/shield could use some all-res boots, too bad the boots have so much str/vit, it will be hard to replace.
Cheapest will definitely be shield. You can get a MUCH better one for scrap.
The belt doesn't look that great either. I know the loh is useful but you could have one with 60+ res and same kind of str/vit for cheap.

The rest seem really hard to replace, because they're very good on one front but lacking on others, such as the wedding band that has nice loh but crappy vit/str/res.

@DMN: yes you're right, it doesn't specify impunity but I guess that's a given, even though some barbs use variations on warcry, but i figure it's not viable past act 2.
Im not a n00b, I just play like one.

Thanks for the input.

The only reason i have that belt is because of the 13% melee reduction which ive found to be really helpful, although it does screw me on one slot by only having 20 res. I dont really know if I should replace it (unless i find higher % melee reduction)

As for the shield i have seen better ones stat wise but they only have like 11% block and reading other posters, everyone seems to say block is a very good stat, so how much should i be sacrificing in order to upgrade other areas (also should i try to find another melee reduction one?)

Yea, impunity is really the only choice for inferno unless you're doing some weird ranged build or something. I changed it in the OP though, thanks for pointing it out.

I updated my previous post to include some advice. I'd keep the belt for now, I'd say it's quite good. Str/Vit/Resist all/+Armor/+LOH/+Meele reduction, that's a lot of useful stats. Some of your other gear need more upgrading.

As for the shield, you don't want anything less than 20% block, preferably 27%+. You're also not looking to sacrifice any stats, you're looking to increase them all. I'd aim for about 1100-1300 str and vitality, 9,5-10k+ armor, 800+ resists buffed (more if you have less than 30% block), and 16k+ dps.

Nice read, Looks like my next big upgrade is on my weapon. Right now it's 750dps with 104 LoH socket. (I am just starting getting in to act 2 though) I just upgraded my belt for a SoE (17% melee dr, 19 + res all 1.5mio EU AH)
Reading through your post I've decided looking into helm of command too.

You mention that you sell high and buy low. Did you actively scour the AH for underpriced items to sell them again at a higher price?

A weapon upgrade would definitely be nice. You can get a 950-1k dps blue wep for 1,5-2 mill, which I'd say is better than one with 100-150 less dps and +100-200 LOH (which you would get for about the same price).

Unless you find a good helm of command (either with 2 or more of: +strength/armor/life% or socket) I also wouldn't bother with it. There are better helms out there. The +8% block ain't THAT sick unless you have a really high block amount shield.

For buying low and selling high, I check the AH often (both for profit and for upgrades) and put all armor filters to resist between 59-69 resist all, str and vitality and sometimes check the lowest priced items. Some of these are really underpriced and should sell for several hundred k higher. Always look at the items that have just been put out for sale (time left 1d 11h+), as the good deals are usually bought out really quickly. Then, once you've checked all of those, start looking at the 1d 10h, 1d 9h, and so on.

Just now I bought a couple bracers for 100k which I sold again for 250k for a nice 110k profit. I probably could've sold them for higher (when I bought them I was expecting to sell them for 400-500k, but I saw some almost similar bracers for around 250k, so I decided not to go so high). I prefer underpricing items slightly that I'm not 100% sure of will sell or not, and sell them quickly, rather than miss on the price and having to wait. It would pain me to see a sick item being sold for 1 mill if I sat on 900k knowing I could've bought it if I had just priced my items slightly lower.

You could ofc do this for a lot more than just barbarian gear if you familiarize yourself with quality of the gear and selling price. Any gear for all classes, as well as rings/amulets (which I find to be a lot harder to price, cause there are more variety of stats people look for), and weapons which can also be a bit tricky cause the prices are usually only based off of dps, so most people don't misjudge the price on them.

i dunno if EU prices are any better but i seem to notice gaps in prices of what you paid for stuff and what i see in the NA AH. unless of course the low priced gear you have were all sick deals then it just means i need to lurk the AH more :p

Also thanks for all the great advice everyone, gonna lock myself in act 1 until i can find a better circuit to do farming runs on (goblin? magda? siegebreaker?)

Did you solo it or group? I just killed him last night too, went through all of act4 with a group of 4, though our NV buff ran out while we were still attempting him and there were no more elites to kill to refresh it

Yes, most of the gear I have are some pretty damn good deals (such as the bracers for a stupid 150k, they should go for close to a mill). I probably spend more time on the AH than farming, so lurking there is definitely important for finding the good deals. Keep in mind the gear you see on the AH most of the time is overpriced stuff that no one wants to buy, cause the good deals are being bought instantly.

The farm routes I used were mostly skeleton king (not so much), butcher/warden runs, magda runs and siegebreaker. You need to be able to reliable get 5 stacks and then 1-shot/2-shot the boss for it to be efficient though.

Grats on the kill!

I soloed all the way except for some running/azmodan in act 3. I went back and soloed azmodan later though (even soloed him with another person in the group who was dead 90% of the time ).

That's unfortunate, hopefully you can 5 stack kill him pretty easily later on.

Nice congrats! My gear is pretty decent but I still doubt I can kill him. Tried some of act4 so far, was doing alright until I ran into a champ pack of opressors with vamp+fire chains, they just healed too much. Wish my dps wasn't so low, using a 733 dps 1H with 600 life on hit, pretty hard to replace it because of that Also how did you solo azmodan? From what I've seen it's really hard as a traditional tank barb.

Yeah I'm still not sure if I'm better off doing 5 stack siegebreaker runs or try and just kill random elites in act4, or maybe give azmodan runs a shot, but I'd probably fail at that.

I check the AH often and put all armor filters to resist between 59-69 resist all, str and vitality and sometimes check the lowest priced items.

I prefer underpricing things slightly that I'm not 100% sure of will sell or not, and sell them quickly, rather than miss on the price and having to wait. It would pain me to see a sick item being sold for 1 mill if I sat on 900k knowing I could've bought it if I had just priced my items slightly lower.

i dunno if EU prices are any better but i seem to notice gaps in prices of what you paid for stuff and what i see in the NA AH. unless of course the low priced gear you have were all sick deals then it just means i need to lurk the AH more :p

Also thanks for all the great advice everyone, gonna lock myself in act 1 until i can find a better circuit to do farming runs on (goblin? magda? siegebreaker?)

That belt was a steal on the EU AH as well. I've been scouring the AH for a SoE with 16%+ melee dr for 3 days or so. Checked in every so often. I thought it better than buying one on day 1 for twice the cost.

Thanks for the advice. It's great to know that there are alternatives to the barbarian that solely relies on resilience to carry him through inferno. I checked your build and found that we use the same passives along with frenzy, charge and war cry. It's good to know I had some basic ideas of what might work right ^^
Now comes a time where I will have to recover from the 1k dps I dropped equipping that SoE.. : /

It's not really hard to solo azmodan, it just takes a little while. I soloed him both with 1h+shield and with a 2hander (I was messing around with it, but decided I prefer 1h+shield). I rotate and use leap+ignore pain effectively and tank the fireballs while those cds are up so I can dps more, otherwise I run away from the fireballs. I stay out of all pools and the rain he does. I kill the demon gates as they appear and heal off of the health globes they drop.

Getting hit by a fireball without having a cd up is usually the thing that kills you.

I'd also definitely say 5 stack siegebreaker runs are better.

For those of you who wanted to try a 2H barb, here's an overview from a stream I found.

His gear isn't great and it's working in act 2. I estimate his gear is probably worth 5 mil in total.
